Generic “Marshall County jail roster” searches can mix Alabama with Marshall Counties in Indiana, Iowa, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Kansas and other states. This page covers the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office in Guntersville, Alabama.

Roster information is not the certified court record.

The Sheriff itself warns that website roster data is provided for public convenience and should not be represented as the agency’s official record. Use the court or responsible office when you need a controlling legal record.

How to Search the Marshall County Alabama Jail Roster

  1. Confirm Guntersville, Alabama first.
Do not use a Marshall County roster from another state. The Alabama Sheriff site is marshallso.org and lists 423 Blount Ave in Guntersville.
  2. Open the Sheriff’s Inmate Roster.
The official roster lets you move among current, released and archived inmate records and sort records by date.
  3. Search the first or last name.
The current public search field accepts a first or last name. Start with the legal surname when you do not know the exact full name formatting.
  4. Open the individual profile.
Use the profile to compare booking number, age, gender, race, arresting agency, booking date, charges, release date when present and bond information when shown.
  5. Do not stop at a matching name.
Compare age, booking date, arresting agency and other available fields. Similar names can refer to different people.
  6. Verify time-sensitive facts before acting.
The Sheriff warns that charges and bail can change after court appearances. Call 256-582-2034 before posting bond, arranging pickup or relying on an older screenshot.
Useful local feature: unlike a current-only roster, Marshall County’s public interface provides Current, Released and Archived inmate routes. Choose the correct status before deciding that a person is missing from the system.
Interpret the profile, not just the name

What a Marshall County Inmate Profile Can Show

FieldWhat it helps answerWhat it does not prove
Booking #Identifies the jail booking record and helps distinguish repeat or similar-name entries.A case number or final court status.
Age / gender / raceProvides identity cross-checks when names are similar.Identity by itself.
Arresting AgencyShows the law-enforcement agency connected to the arrest record when published. That the arresting agency controls the court case or current release decision.
Booking DateShows when the public booking record says the person entered the detention system. The date of every alleged offense or court filing.
Release DateShows a published release date on released records when present. That no other jurisdiction later took custody.
ChargesLists allegations, holds or custody reasons shown by the jail system.Guilt, conviction or final disposition.
BondProvides a starting point for release verification when a bond entry is shown. That the amount remains current or that payment clears every hold.
PhotoProvides a visual identity clue on profiles where the Sheriff displays an image.Guilt or present custody after the record changes.

Individual Sheriff profiles specifically warn that charges and bail amounts may change after court appearances and may not be current. The same profiles direct bond companies and people posting bail to call detention-center staff for the correct bail amount, charges and case numbers.

Current, released and archived are different questions

How Marshall County Booking Records Are Organized

Current

Who appears in custody now?

Use Current Inmates and sort newest to oldest when you are checking a recent arrest or present public custody listing.

Released

Was the person recently released?

Use Released Inmates when a current record disappears or you need a public booking profile that includes a release date.

Archived

Is this an older roster record?

Use Archived Inmates for older jail-site records. Do not interpret an archive entry as current incarceration.

Do not freeze a live inmate count into an article. The current roster population changes continuously. The Sheriff’s homepage and roster may show different counts at different crawl times as bookings and releases are processed.

The Sheriff announced when the modern roster feature launched that the site was designed to show photos and booking details for detention-center inmates and released people, with an archive for older records. The current interface continues to expose status and date filters.

A blank search has several explanations

If You Cannot Find the Person on the Marshall County Jail Roster

ProblemPossible explanationNext action
Very recent arrestIntake or public roster processing may not yet be useful online.Call the 24-hour Sheriff/Detention Center number at 256-582-2034.
Name search is blankName formatting, spelling or a different legal surname may be involved.Search first or last name separately and compare profile identifiers.
Person was visible earlierThe person may have been released.Switch from Current to Released records.
Old arrest cannot be found in current/releasedThe entry may belong in the archived roster history.Use the Archived Inmates option.
Court case exists but no current jail resultA criminal case can continue after release or without present county-jail custody.Use the Marshall County Circuit Clerk or Alabama court-record access.
Possible state-prison transferThe person may now be in Alabama DOC custody.Search ADOC by AIS number or name.
Possible federal custodyFederal prison custody uses a separate system.Use the BOP inmate locator.

Do not treat “not found” as proof that no arrest happened. Also do not treat a court case, warrant, or old booking profile as proof that the person is currently incarcerated.

Marshall County-specific bond rules

Verify Bond Before Paying: Property, Cash and the $35 Transmittal Fee

The Sheriff publishes unusually detailed local bond instructions. These rules are more useful than a generic “contact a bondsman” statement, but the current detention-center staff should still confirm the person’s active bond and case information before money changes hands.

Property bonds

  • Property-bond signers are approved by the Sheriff.
  • A person currently signing another property bond while out on bond cannot sign again until that case is disposed of.
  • The Sheriff says most felony cases require two property owners unless otherwise approved.
  • Only equity in the property is considered.
  • All property owners/signers must be present with identification when the bond is signed.
  • Property outside Marshall County requires Sheriff approval.

Cash bonds

  • The arrested person or someone acting for them may post the entire amount in cash at the Circuit Clerk’s office.
  • The Sheriff publishes Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., excluding holidays or weekends, for this route.
  • The receipt must then be produced at the Sheriff’s Department.
  • A separate $35 bond transmittal fee is due to the Sheriff’s Department in exact cash; the Sheriff says no checks.
Before paying: call 256-582-2034 and ask for the current bail amount, charges and case numbers. A displayed amount can change after court, and another hold can prevent release even when a monetary bond appears.

The court controls the legal case

Marshall County Alabama Court Records and Criminal Case Routing

Marshall County is Alabama’s 27th Judicial Circuit. The Circuit Clerk publishes two county courthouse locations, both with Monday–Friday hours of 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Guntersville courthouse

424 Blount Avenue, Suite 201
Guntersville, AL 35976
256-571-7785

Use the clerk’s office for the court matter rather than assuming the jail roster contains the full legal case.

Alabama’s Administrative Office of Courts also provides Just One Look for on-demand access to Alabama state trial-court records one case at a time, while Alacourt.com is a subscription-based read-only service. These are court-record tools, not inmate locators.

Current official rule: remote visits

Marshall County Jail Visitation Is Conducted Remotely

The Sheriff’s Corrections page states that all visits are conducted remotely and are subject to monitoring and recording. Visits can be scheduled online through Inmate Sales or at the visitation kiosk in the front lobby.

  • Do not call the Sheriff’s Office to schedule a visit: the official page specifically says visits cannot be scheduled by phone to the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Published remote-visit cost: $0.20 per minute, funded by the visitor.
  • Friends & Family Support: 702-829-3001.
  • Video Visit Support & Scheduling: 859-334-0959.
  • The Sheriff reserves the right to terminate, suspend or cancel visitation for facility safety/security and may suspend visitors for inappropriate conduct.

Commissary Money and Telephone Money Use Different Routes

Commissary deposits

The Sheriff directs commissary deposits to JailATM, to the JailATM phone line at 866-516-0115, or to the kiosk in the Sheriff’s Department lobby.

JailATM deposits

Telephone money

The Sheriff directs telephone money to Inmate Sales, by phone at 877-998-5678, or to the visitation-lobby kiosk under the conditions published by the facility.

Inmate Sales

Do not mix up bond, commissary and phone money. They are different payments. Depositing funds with JailATM or Inmate Sales does not post a cash bond.
Personal mail is scanned off-site

Marshall County Jail Personal Mail Address and Legal-Mail Difference

The Sheriff changed its personal-mail process in late 2024. Beginning December 1, 2024, personal inmate mail sent directly to the Guntersville facility is not accepted. Personal correspondence is instead sent to an off-site address and scanned into the inmate’s JailATM communication account.

  • Bulk mail, including numerous large scanned copies or copies of internet sites, is not accepted.
  • Legal mail continues to be accepted at the facility when sent by an attorney of record and clearly marked “Private Legal Mail” with the inmate’s name.
  • Business or administrative forms requiring a signature should be brought directly to the facility whenever possible so arrangements can be made through the front-lobby attendant or shift supervisors.
  • Personal correspondence mixed into legal or business mail can be destroyed under the published policy.
  • Books are accepted when mailed directly from the vendor/publisher. Used books are not accepted, including used religious books.

Recheck the current inmate-mail policy before mailing

Roster photos are not certified case records

Booking Photos, Released Records and Official Record Requests

The Sheriff’s roster can display booking photos and booking details for public inmate profiles. It also provides released and archived record routes. Those features are useful for identifying a booking record, but the Sheriff’s own disclaimer says website information and documents do not constitute the official records of the Sheriff’s Office.

If you need a certified, litigation-ready or otherwise official record, identify which agency owns the record first. Contact the Sheriff for Sheriff/detention records and the Circuit Clerk for court records. Do not use a copied mugshot site or stale screenshot as proof of a current legal status.

Use booking information carefully

What a Marshall County Roster Entry Does Not Prove

  • An arrest is not a conviction.
  • A booking charge is not necessarily the final filed charge or final disposition.
  • A roster photo is not proof of guilt.
  • A displayed bond amount can change after a court appearance.
  • A released or archived record is not evidence of current incarceration.
  • A missing current result does not prove that no arrest happened.
  • An old screenshot should not be treated as a live custody check.
  • Do not use booking information for harassment, threats, stalking or public shaming.
