Ada County, Idaho • Boise-area custody and jail-services guide
Ada County Jail Roster: Check Current Boise-Area Custody First
For an adult booked into Ada County Jail, start with the Ada County Sheriff’s official Inmate Roster. The Sheriff says the public roster excludes juvenile offenders and is updated every 24 hours, so a very recent booking, release or status change may not appear yet.
If current status affects bond, pickup, court, mail, money or a visit, confirm with the Sheriff at 208-577-3000. A Boise Police arrest does not create a separate “Boise city jail roster”; the arresting agency, Ada County jail custodian and Idaho court record are separate parts of the process.
Which Official Ada County Source Should You Use?
Ada County publishes separate tools for new arrests, current jail custody and warrants. Idaho courts and the Department of Correction maintain different records again. Choosing the correct source first prevents a common error: treating an arrest, warrant or court case as proof that someone is still in jail.
| Question | Best starting point | What it answers |
|---|---|---|
| Is the person in Ada County Jail now? | Ada County Inmate Roster | Adults listed in Ada County jail custody as of the roster’s last update. |
| Was the person just arrested? | Ada County Current Arrests | Recent arrest/booking activity; useful when the 24-hour roster refresh may not have caught a new event yet. |
| Is there a valid Ada County arrest warrant? | Ada County Warrant Search | Most warrants issued by the Ada County District Court that are available through the Sheriff’s public warrant system. |
| What is the criminal case status or next hearing? | Idaho iCourt Portal | Public case and hearing information in Idaho state trial courts, subject to access restrictions. |
| Where is the courthouse? | Idaho Courts county directory | Ada County Courthouse location and official court contact information. |
| How do I request Sheriff records? | Ada County Sheriff Public Records | Law-enforcement/public-record request process, restrictions and response guidance. |
| Did the person move into Idaho prison, probation or parole jurisdiction? | IDOC Resident/Client Search | People incarcerated or supervised under Idaho Department of Correction jurisdiction. |
| Is the person in federal custody? | Federal BOP Inmate Locator | Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate-location information. |
Boise Arrest Does Not Mean “Boise Police Jail”
Boise Police can be the arresting or investigating agency, but Ada County Sheriff operates the county jail used for adult county custody. A Boise-area arrest can therefore create records with Boise Police, the Ada County Sheriff’s jail system and Idaho courts at the same time.
Use Ada County for custody
For adult current-custody questions in the Boise/Ada County system, start with the Sheriff’s Inmate Roster and Current Arrests tools. The roster itself says status should be confirmed by phone or in person when it matters.
Use the arresting agency for its report
If you need a Boise Police incident report or another city-agency record, request it from that agency rather than asking the jail to supply a police report it may not own.
Use iCourt for the case
A booking charge is operational jail data. Use Idaho’s court system for filings, hearings, dispositions and the legal outcome.
Use IDOC after state transfer
If sentencing or transfer moves the person from county jail into Idaho correctional jurisdiction, the county roster is no longer the right source for current state custody.
How to Search the Ada County Jail Roster
Open the Sheriff’s official roster
Use the Ada County government roster rather than a copied inmate directory. The public search box is designed for the first letter or letters of the person’s last name.
Start with the legal surname
Enter enough of the last name to narrow the list without making the search too brittle. If nothing appears, try a verified former surname, maiden name, hyphenated spelling or alternate legal spelling.
Compare more than the name
Review available booking/charge and bail information. Similar names are possible, so never identify a person from a name or photograph alone.
Check Current Arrests for a very new booking
The inmate roster is updated every 24 hours. A newer arrest may appear in the separate Current Arrests report before the status you expect appears on the roster.
Move to iCourt for the legal case
Use the court record for case numbers, hearings, filed charges, disposition and later legal outcome. The roster’s charge wording should not be treated as the final court result.
Call before a time-sensitive action
The Sheriff expressly warns that recent status changes may not appear in the online database. Call 208-577-3000 before posting bond, arranging pickup, sending time-sensitive mail or relying on a stale screenshot.
Current Arrests vs. Inmate Roster vs. Warrants
| Tool | Best use | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Current Arrests | Checking a newly reported Ada County arrest/booking event. | That an arrest entry proves the person remains in custody now. |
| Inmate Roster | Checking adult Ada County jail custody as of the roster update. | That a missing name proves there was no arrest or that a release occurred. |
| Valid Arrest Warrants | Checking most Ada County District Court warrants published through the Sheriff. | That a warrant means the person is in jail. Only a peace officer can execute an arrest warrant. |
| iCourt | Following the criminal court case, hearings and public case information. | That every document or sealed/restricted matter is remotely available. |
The Sheriff’s warrant database is updated periodically throughout the day, so a recall, arrest or other recent warrant-status change may not be reflected immediately. For warrant questions, the published Sheriff numbers are 208-577-3090 and 208-577-3091.
How to Read Ada County Roster Information
The live layout can change, but the meaning of common custody fields should be kept narrow. The roster itself warns that its information should not be relied on for legal action.
| Information | What it can help show | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Name / identity information | Which booking record may belong to the person you are searching for. | Identity when multiple people have similar names. |
| Charge | The allegation or hold associated with county custody. | The prosecutor’s final filing, guilt, conviction or final sentence. |
| Bail value | Whether the displayed charge has a bail amount or another bail status. | That every hold is cleared or payment will produce immediate release. |
| Booking / arrest timing | When the public system recorded the custody event. | The exact incident time or current status after a later change. |
| Arresting agency | Which law-enforcement agency initiated the arrest record. | Which agency operates the jail or which court controls the case. |
| Booking photograph, when displayed | An additional identity clue. | Guilt, conviction or continued custody after the page changes. |
Why Someone May Not Appear on the Ada County Roster
A no-result screen is a troubleshooting signal, not a legal conclusion. The official update schedule itself creates several legitimate reasons for a missing name.
The arrest happened recently
Possible explanation: the roster database updates every 24 hours.
Next action: check the separate Current Arrests report, then call 208-577-3000 if current custody must be confirmed.
The person was released or transferred after the last update
Possible explanation: recent status changes can lag the public roster.
Next action: refresh the roster, check iCourt for the case and call the Sheriff for current status.
The person is under 18
Possible explanation: Ada County expressly excludes juvenile offenders from its public adult inmate roster.
Next action: do not try to bypass juvenile privacy restrictions. A parent, guardian or authorized party should use the proper juvenile-court/detention channel.
The name is entered differently
Possible explanation: legal-name spelling, a former surname, hyphenation or another verified name variation may differ.
Next action: retry the last-name-prefix search with a verified variation rather than using an unrelated people-search site.
The matter is only a warrant or court case
Possible explanation: a person can have an open warrant or criminal case without being in the Ada County Jail.
Next action: use the warrant search or iCourt for that question; use the inmate roster for custody.
The person is in another county
Possible explanation: an arrest, hold or transfer can place a person outside Ada County.
Next action: follow a specific clue from the arresting agency or court. If the record points toward Caldwell/Nampa, use the Canyon County custody system rather than guessing.
The person moved into Idaho state custody
Possible explanation: sentencing or transfer can move a person from the county jail into IDOC jurisdiction.
Next action: search the IDOC Resident/Client database by last name or IDOC number.
The person is in federal custody
Possible explanation: a federal case or transfer may place the person in the Bureau of Prisons system.
Next action: use the BOP locator only when federal involvement is supported by the case or transfer information.
Ada County Court Cases: Use Idaho iCourt
Ada County is in Idaho’s Fourth Judicial District. The Ada County Courthouse is at 200 West Front Street in Boise, and the Idaho Judicial Branch lists the courthouse main phone as 208-287-6900.
Ada County Courthouse
200 West Front St.Boise, ID 83702-7300
208-287-6900
Use this route for courthouse/clerk questions and case-record access when online information is not enough.
iCourt Portal
The Idaho Judicial Branch directs the public to mycourts.idaho.gov for general state trial-court case information. Public court records can also be accessed through courthouse kiosks or requested from the clerk where the case was filed.
Jail record vs. court record
| If you need… | Use… |
|---|---|
| Current adult county custody | Ada County Sheriff Inmate Roster + 208-577-3000 when current confirmation matters. |
| Recent arrest event | Ada County Current Arrests. |
| Case number, hearing or court event | Idaho iCourt Portal / Ada County Courthouse. |
| Final legal outcome | Court record, not the booking charge. |
| Police/Sheriff incident report | The law-enforcement agency that owns the report. |
Bond and Release: Confirm Every Charge Before You Pay
Current indexed Ada County jail guidance routes in-person bond payments to the Sheriff’s main public lobby at 7200 Barrister Drive, Boise. It lists cash, cashier’s check, money order or a bail bond service as accepted bond routes, and says personal checks and credit cards are not accepted for bond.
$25 administrative fee
Current captured county guidance applies a $25 administrative fee to each separate charge/bond unless a judge has combined multiple charges under one case number. Confirm the exact number of bonds and fees before purchasing a cashier’s check or money order.
“Not Bailable” or another hold
The public roster states that some charges are not eligible for bail. Even when one charge has a dollar amount, another hold can prevent release. Ask the jail what must be satisfied for the specific booking.
- Refresh the official inmate roster.
- Read every listed charge and bail status.
- Check iCourt for the related court case/order.
- Call 208-577-3000 to verify the current amount, holds and accepted method.
- For in-person bond, confirm the correct Sheriff lobby before travelling to 7200 Barrister Drive.
- Keep all receipts and transaction information.
Ada County Jail Public Visits Are Video-Based
Current Ada County visitation information routes public social visits through the jail’s video-visitation system and GettingOut. Current published/captured guidance says each inmate receives two free 25-minute online visits per week, with additional visits available for a fee.
Before scheduling
- Confirm the person is still in Ada County custody.
- Use the GettingOut route linked from current jail guidance.
- Check the live scheduler for the inmate’s actual housing availability.
- Review current account/device requirements before paying for an extra visit.
Help with visitation
Ada County visitation questions are currently routed to 208-577-3113. GettingOut customer support is 866-516-0115.
Professional/attorney visits use a different authorized professional process, so do not book a social visit when confidential professional access is needed.
Personal Mail Uses an Off-Site Scanning Address
Current Ada County mail guidance routes ordinary personal correspondence through an off-site mail-processing address. Include the person’s full name and JID number so the scanned mail can be assigned correctly.
Personal inmate mail
Ada County Jail, IDInmate’s Full Name, #JID
PO Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131
Current county materials describe personal mail as scanned and delivered electronically. Do not send ordinary family correspondence to whichever Barrister Drive address appears first in a search result.
Books, magazines, legal or direct-delivery items
Some publication/legal-mail categories use the Boise jail delivery address rather than the personal-mail scanning address. Current jail-facing material commonly identifies 7210 Barrister Drive, Boise, ID 83704 for these direct deliveries. Because seller, binding, content and legal-mail rules can change, check the live Mail, Payments and Commissary guidance or call the jail before ordering an expensive publication.
Commissary, Phone Calls and Electronic Communication
Ada County’s current inmate-service ecosystem uses GettingOut/ViaPath for multiple communication and account functions. Start from the Sheriff’s current jail page rather than a sponsored search result so you select the correct Ada County facility and account type.
Money / commissary
Current county-linked material allows account deposits through the approved online/telephone service and kiosks at the main Public Safety Building lobby at 7200 Barrister Drive. Confirm the inmate’s name/JID and review transaction fees before depositing.
Phone calls
Inmates generally place outgoing calls through the jail communication system; they cannot receive an ordinary incoming personal call. GettingOut support currently uses 866-516-0115.
Messages
Electronic messaging may be available through the same provider/account system. Check current pricing and service availability after selecting the Ada County inmate; do not assume an old per-message or per-minute rate remains current.
Sheriff Records, Arrest History and Booking Photos
The Ada County Sheriff’s public-record process is separate from the live inmate roster. The Sheriff accepts online requests or written requests mailed/brought to the Public Safety Information Center at 7200 Barrister, Boise.
Prepare a focused request
For a record about a person, the Sheriff asks for complete names and dates of birth so staff can identify the correct record. Be specific about the incident, date, report or booking you need.
Expected response window
The Sheriff’s current public-record page says Idaho law allows 3 to 10 business days for a response and that larger requests may carry a fee. That is not a guarantee that every requested record is releasable.
Open investigations, victim/witness information, fair-trial concerns and investigative techniques can limit disclosure. If a request is denied, the Sheriff’s page says a petition challenging the denial must be filed within 180 days of the denial letter.
Booking photos / mugshots
If the live public jail system displays a booking image, treat it only as a booking-record identity clue. For an older photo or image not shown online, use the Sheriff’s public-record process and ask whether that specific record is releasable; do not assume every booking photo must be provided.
Ada County arrest history is not a statewide background check
The Sheriff says it does not provide public background checks. It can provide Ada County arrest history for people who were booked into the Ada County Jail. Statewide Idaho background checks are handled by the Idaho State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification at 700 S. Stratford Drive in Meridian, 208-884-7130.
Medical, Mental-Health and Immediate Safety Concerns
Ada County operates a jail Health Services function that handles medical and mental-health needs inside the facility. Family members should communicate useful safety information to the jail, but should not assume staff can disclose protected medical information back to them.
Urgent concern about someone in custody
Call 208-577-3000, identify the person clearly and explain the specific medical, medication, withdrawal, suicide-risk or other safety information staff need to route.
Sexual abuse / PREA concern
For a sexual-abuse or harassment concern involving custody, contact the jail immediately and ask for the current PREA reporting route. This refresh did not locate a reliably accessible current public web page with a separate outside PREA phone/email contact, so no number is invented here.
If the Person Is No Longer in Ada County Jail
Idaho Department of Correction
IDOC Resident/Client Search covers people incarcerated or supervised under IDOC jurisdiction, including probation and parole. It accepts a last-name search or an IDOC number.
IDOC says its database is updated daily, but even that search may not reflect the newest location/status immediately.
Custody notifications
IDOC’s current Victim Services page identifies VINELink as a free automated notification service for prison-resident movement/status changes and says the IDOC Resident/Client Search updates at 4 a.m. each morning.
Federal custody
If the criminal matter or transfer information is federal, use the Bureau of Prisons locator rather than continuing to search Idaho county rosters.
Nearby-county clue: Canyon County
If a verified arrest, transfer or court record points toward Caldwell or Nampa rather than Ada County, use the Canyon County Jail Roster guide. Do not search neighboring counties randomly when no record points there.
Ada County Jail, Sheriff and Court Contacts
The Barrister Drive complex uses task-specific addresses. The Idaho Sheriffs’ Association jail directory lists Ada County Jail at 7200 Barrister, while current jail-facing mail/publication guidance commonly uses 7210 Barrister for direct jail delivery. Use the address attached to the specific service rather than treating the two as interchangeable.
| Office / task | Contact | Use it for |

Ada County Jail / Sheriff campus map
Confirm the exact building/entrance for bond, records or other in-person business before travelling. Court business is downtown at 200 W. Front Street, not at the jail campus.
Use Ada County Booking Information Responsibly
- Arrest is not conviction. A jail roster or mugshot does not establish guilt.
- Booking charge is not the final court disposition. Charges and outcomes can change in court.
- Warrant is not jail custody. Verify current incarceration separately.
- The roster can lag. Ada County says it updates every 24 hours, so a screenshot can become stale quickly.
- Juveniles are excluded. Do not try to use adult public-search tools to bypass juvenile privacy protections.
- Do not harass, threaten, stalk or shame someone based on an arrest or booking record.
- Do not treat the roster as a consumer background report for employment, housing, credit, insurance or another regulated eligibility decision.
Ada County Jail Roster FAQs
How do I search the official Ada County Jail roster?
Open the Ada County Sheriff’s Inmate Roster and type the first letter or letters of the person’s last name. Compare the available booking and charge information, then call 208-577-3000 when current status must be confirmed.
How current is the Ada County inmate roster?
The Sheriff says the roster database is updated every 24 hours. Recent bookings, releases or other status changes may not appear immediately, so the county says current inmate status should be confirmed in person or by phone.
Are juveniles shown on the Ada County Jail roster?
No. The official adult inmate-roster page expressly states that juvenile offenders are not included.
What should I check for a very recent Boise arrest?
Check the Sheriff’s separate Current Arrests report as well as the Inmate Roster. Because the roster has a 24-hour update cycle, a recent arrest and current-custody display can be at different stages.
Does an Ada County warrant mean the person is in jail?
No. The warrant search and inmate roster are separate systems. The Sheriff says most Ada County District Court warrants are searchable online and that warrant status can change during the day; only a peace officer can execute an arrest warrant.
Where do I check the Ada County criminal court case?
Use Idaho’s iCourt Portal at mycourts.idaho.gov for basic public state trial-court case information. Ada County is in the Fourth Judicial District, and the courthouse is at 200 W. Front Street in Boise.
How do I visit someone in Ada County Jail?
Public social visitation is video-based through the jail’s current visitation system/GettingOut. Current guidance provides two free 25-minute online visits per inmate per week, with additional visits available for a fee. Check the live scheduler and call 208-577-3113 for jail-specific questions.
What address should I use for personal inmate mail?
Current Ada County mail guidance uses: Ada County Jail, ID; inmate full name and JID number; PO Box 247; Phoenix, MD 21131. Personal correspondence is processed for electronic delivery. Verify the live rule before mailing because direct publications/legal mail can use a different Boise address.
How do I request an Ada County arrest record or older booking information?
Use the Ada County Sheriff Public Records Request process. The Sheriff asks for specific record details and complete names/dates of birth when requesting records about a person, and says responses generally take 3–10 business days subject to exemptions and fees.
Where do I search after someone transfers to Idaho state custody?
Use the Idaho Department of Correction Resident/Client Search. It covers people incarcerated or supervised under IDOC jurisdiction and supports searches by last name or IDOC number. IDOC updates the database daily but warns that fast-changing status can still lag.
