Guilford County Jail Roster: Inmate Search & Booking Records

Guilford County, North Carolina custody guide

Search One Guilford County Roster—Then Confirm Whether the Inmate Is in Greensboro or High Point

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office operates two adult detention centers, one in Greensboro and one in High Point. The county links both facilities to the same Police-to-Citizen inmate search and recent-arrest system, and an inmate may be assigned or transferred between the two facilities.

Use the official inmate search for current county custody, the Sheriff’s Recent Arrests route for booking activity, and the North Carolina Judicial Branch for court dates and case information. A booking record is not a conviction.

Use the Official System That Owns the Record

Guilford County jail custody, a recent arrest, an outstanding criminal process, and a court case are separate records. Choosing the correct system prevents a common mistake: treating a court case or warrant as proof that someone is currently jailed.

Local point that matters: Guilford County has two adult detention centers under the same Sheriff. A person may be moved between Greensboro and High Point, so confirm the current facility before visiting, sending legal mail, or travelling to the jail.

How to Search the Guilford County Jail Roster

The county’s Detention Centers page links directly to the Sheriff’s Police-to-Citizen inmate catalog. The automated research client was rejected by the P2C application, so this guide does not invent search fields, filters, update intervals, or profile fields that could not be verified from the live official interface.

Open the county-linked P2C inmate catalog

Start from the official Guilford County Sheriff inmate search rather than a commercial jail directory.

Use the search controls shown by the live portal

Search with the identifiers the current portal actually offers. If the name is common or spelling is uncertain, try reasonable name variations without assuming unsupported search fields.

Confirm the detention center

Determine whether the person is currently assigned to Greensboro or High Point before scheduling a visit or using a facility-specific legal-mail address.

Use Recent Arrests for booking activity

If the person is not on the current roster but the arrest was recent, check the Sheriff’s separate Recent Arrests route and then confirm current custody by phone if needed.

Move to the court system for the legal case

Use North Carolina Judicial Branch court-date and clerk resources when you need hearings, filed case information, or court disposition rather than present jail custody.

Greensboro vs. High Point: Why the Facility Matters

The Sheriff’s Office says both detention centers follow the same policies and inmates can be assigned or transferred between them at any time. That makes the facility name operationally important even though both are part of the same county detention system.

Greensboro primarily holds pretrial detainees but also houses some sentenced, federal, and transfer-awaiting inmates. High Point is a separate direct-supervision facility. Do not assume the arresting city determines where the inmate will remain housed.

Current Inmate Search vs. Recent Arrests vs. Court Records

Current inmate search

Use it to answer the immediate custody question: is the person currently shown in Guilford County detention?

Recent arrests

Use the Sheriff’s separate booking-activity route when the arrest was recent or you are checking booking activity rather than only present custody.

Court record

Use the Judicial Branch for hearing dates, filed charges, case progression and disposition. Jail custody does not replace the court file.

Arrest is not conviction. A booking or arrest record reflects an earlier stage of the process. Charges can change, a person can be released while the case continues, and a court disposition can occur long after jail custody ends.

No Result? Check These Guilford County Possibilities

Booking is very recent

The public pages reviewed do not publish a guaranteed intake-to-P2C posting delay. Call Greensboro at 336-641-2700 or High Point at 336-641-7900 when the arrest is very recent.

Released after arrest

Check the Sheriff’s Recent Arrests route and then the court system. A person can leave jail while the criminal case remains open.

Facility transfer

The Sheriff says inmates may be transferred between Greensboro and High Point. Confirm the current location before visiting or sending legal mail.

State custody

Use NC DAC only when state prison, probation, parole or post-release supervision is relevant. NC DAC expressly says its offender database does not include county jail information.

Federal custody / other jurisdiction

Greensboro can hold some federal or transfer-awaiting inmates, but after a transfer the correct custodian may be BOP or another jurisdiction. Verify the transfer before switching systems.

Warrant or court case without incarceration

A warrant or active case does not prove present jail custody. Use the Sheriff’s warrant contacts and Judicial Branch separately.

Bond, First Appearance and the Correct Guilford County Courthouse

Guilford County Court Services says first-appearance hearings are held every business day for defendants arrested since the previous first-appearance session who have not made bond. At first appearance, the judge addresses the charges, rights, counsel, next court date and conditions of pretrial release.

The official county pages reviewed do not publish one universal jail-lobby bond-payment procedure for every case. Before paying, confirm the current release conditions with the detention center, magistrate or Clerk of Superior Court. Do not rely on a third-party bail page for payment instructions.

Warrant Information Is Separate From the Jail Roster

The Sheriff’s Warrant Squad serves arrest warrants, arrest orders, fugitive-from-justice process, criminal summonses and other criminal process. A warrant does not mean the person is already in jail.

Guilford County Jail Visitation: Registration, Timing and Facility Differences

Both detention centers use monitored video visitation for in-person and remote visits. Register through IWebVisit or at a facility before scheduling. The county says there is a 24-hour wait after registration before scheduling, and later visits must also be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.

Visit ruleCurrent county guidance

Remote limitUp to two 20-minute remote visits per day.
In-person limitUp to two 20-minute visits per week at non-consecutive times; free of charge.

In-person visitors must be signed up at least 20 minutes before the visitation period closes. Remote visits incur a usage-based fee. All visits are monitored and recorded, and the county requires appropriate conduct and dress.

Phone Calls and Secure Messages

Guilford County currently identifies Pay Tel Communications as the inmate communications provider. The county directs users to Pay Tel or 1-800-PAYTELL to set up an account.

For secure tablet messaging, the county says the inmate initiates the process by sending a message to a valid cell-phone number. The recipient receives a text notification with a link to establish an account and can then view and send messages.

Provider freshness matters: use the current county Detention Centers page before funding an account. Communication vendors and fees can change.

Non-Legal Mail Is Scanned—Use the Correct Facility ID

All non-legal inmate mail is routed to a processing center. The physical mail is scanned for inmate tablet access and the county says compliant mail is scanned within 24 hours of receipt; physical mail is then destroyed.

High Point non-legal mail

The envelope must include a complete, legible return address with the sender’s first and last name, plus the facility name, inmate name, inmate ID and facility ID. The county limits processed mail to 10 pages per envelope, with pages no larger than 8.5 by 11 inches. Polaroid photos are not allowed.

Legal mail uses the physical detention-center address

Do not send legal or privileged mail to the processing center. Mark it “Legal Mail.” The county says legal mail is opened by facility staff in the inmate’s presence.

Do not mail originals you need back. The county specifically warns against sending original birth certificates, driver’s licenses, Social Security cards, Green Cards, original photos or other irreplaceable items through the scanned-mail process.

Adding Money to an Inmate Account

Guilford County uses IC Team3 lobby kiosks and an online Inmate Canteen route. Kiosks accept cash, debit cards, Visa and MasterCard; the county says a credit card must be attached to an open bank account and cannot be a prepaid card.

  • Cash kiosk deposits are limited to $300 per rolling seven-day period.
  • Funds may be deposited for an inmate housed at either detention center.
  • The county says completed kiosk deposits are credited immediately.
  • Certified/cashier’s checks and money orders are accepted by mail for inmate-account deposits; personal checks are not accepted.
  • No property or money may be exchanged between inmates.

Greensboro’s lobby kiosk is available 24/7. The county lists High Point kiosk access Monday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Tuesday-Friday 8 a.m.-10 p.m. on the main detention page; another mail-policy passage lists High Point cash/card deposit hours as weekdays 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Because the county page contains this internal timing conflict, call High Point at 336-641-7900 before making a special trip.

Useful official-source conflict: the same county page publishes two different High Point deposit-hour descriptions. The safest action is to verify the current lobby schedule directly rather than choosing one as universally correct.

Arrest Records, Sheriff Records and Court Records

The Sheriff’s Legal Process Division includes a Records Section, while the P2C system provides inmate and recent-arrest access. Guilford County also provides an Open Public Records Request route for county records. The correct custodian depends on what you are requesting.

Custody / booking

Start with Sheriff P2C and the appropriate detention center for current custody or recent booking information.

Sheriff process / records

Use the Sheriff’s Office or Legal Process Division for Sheriff’s records and criminal-process questions. Headquarters: 401 W. Sycamore St., Greensboro; 336-641-3694.

Court case

Use the Clerk of Superior Court / North Carolina Judicial Branch for filed cases, court dates and dispositions. The jail is not the court-record custodian.

Do not treat a booking photograph or arrest entry as a case outcome. If an image appears in the live P2C record, it remains part of an arrest/custody context, not proof of guilt.

When Guilford County Is No Longer the Right Custody System

North Carolina Department of Adult Correction

NC DAC’s Offender Public Information Search covers North Carolina state-prison offenders, probationers and parolees and includes historical information back to 1972. NC DAC expressly says this database does not include county jail information.

Open NC DAC offender-search guidance

Federal Bureau of Prisons

Use the BOP locator after federal custody is established or a confirmed transfer points to BOP. The Greensboro detention center can house some federal inmates temporarily, so a federal connection does not by itself tell you the current custodian.

Open BOP Inmate Locator

NC DAC also lists NC SAVAN as a confidential notification service that can include county jail inmates, state prisoners, probationers, parolees and registered sex offenders. It can be more useful than repeatedly refreshing a roster when notification is the actual goal.

Use Guilford County Jail Information Responsibly

An arrest is not a conviction. A booking entry is not the final court disposition, a warrant does not establish current incarceration, and a transfer can make an older facility location stale.

Recheck time-sensitive custody information before paying, visiting, mailing legal documents or arranging transportation. Do not use jail, booking, warrant or court information to harass, threaten, stalk, shame or impersonate another person.

Guilford County Jail Roster FAQs

What is the official Guilford County inmate search?

Use the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office Police-to-Citizen Inmate Search linked from the county’s Detention Centers page. The same county page also links a separate Recent Arrests catalog.

Does Guilford County have more than one jail?

Yes. The Sheriff’s Office operates the Greensboro Detention Center at 201 S. Edgeworth Street and the High Point Detention Center at 507 E. Green Drive. Inmates may be assigned or transferred between the two.

Why might the facility change after I find an inmate?

The Sheriff states that inmates can be assigned or transferred between Greensboro and High Point at any time. Confirm the current facility before visiting or sending legal mail.

What should I do if the inmate search has no result?

Check the Sheriff’s Recent Arrests route, verify spelling, call a detention center for a very recent arrest, and use the court or warrant system when the issue may be a case or warrant rather than current custody. Use NC DAC or BOP only when a transfer or different custody system is supported.

When is a first appearance held in Guilford County?

Guilford County Court Services says first appearances are held every business day for defendants arrested since the previous first-appearance session who have not made bond.

How do I schedule a Guilford County jail visit?

Register through IWebVisit or at a facility, wait the county’s stated 24-hour period after registration, and schedule visits at least 24 hours in advance. General visitation is Tuesday through Friday, with different afternoon availability in Greensboro and High Point.

How many visits are allowed?

The county says remote visits may occur up to twice per day for 20 minutes each. In-person monitor visits are limited to two per week at non-consecutive times for 20 minutes each.

How do I send non-legal mail?

Use the central PO Box 18247 processing address and include the correct facility name, inmate name, inmate ID and facility ID: 5083 for Greensboro or 5084 for High Point. Legal mail must instead go directly to the detention center.

How do I add money to an inmate account?

Guilford County uses IC Team3 lobby kiosks and an online Inmate Canteen route. Cash kiosk deposits are limited to $300 per rolling seven-day period, and only certified/cashier’s checks or money orders are accepted by mail for deposits.

Does NC DAC offender search include Guilford County jail inmates?

No. NC DAC explicitly says its Offender Public Information database does not include county jail information. Use the Guilford County Sheriff inmate search for county custody.
