Jamestown Jail Roster 2026: Stutsman County Inmate Search

Jamestown Jail Roster: Check Stutsman County Custody First

For someone arrested in Jamestown or elsewhere in Stutsman County, start with the official Stutsman County Correctional Center (SCCC) inmate roster. The county says the roster is live custody data, while separate pages help with recent bookings and releases.

Jamestown also has the state-run James River Correctional Center, so a person serving a North Dakota state sentence may not appear on the county jail roster. Use the custody path below instead of treating every “Jamestown inmate” result as the same system.

Use the right official source for the question

The jail roster answers a custody question. Court records, police reports, state-prison custody and federal custody are separate systems, even when the same person or incident is involved.

Do not use a jail roster as a criminal background check. Stutsman County states that its roster shows arrest information, not final disposition, and the county does not certify the roster for legal action or background-check use.

What a roster result does — and does not — mean

Custody information

A current SCCC entry helps confirm that the person is in the county correctional center at the time the live roster is viewed. The county also highlights people booked within the prior 24 hours.

Court information

Charges shown at booking are not the final court outcome. Court filings can be amended, dismissed or resolved differently, so use NDCRI and the correct clerk when the disposition matters.

Warrants are a different question

A warrant can exist without current incarceration, and a court case can exist after release. This review did not verify a public Stutsman County warrant-search page, so do not substitute a jail-roster search for warrant confirmation.

Release dates can change

Do not treat an estimated or projected release as a guaranteed pickup time. Holds, court orders, processing and transfers can affect custody status.

Jamestown has both a county jail and a state prison

This is the most important local distinction. SCCC is the county correctional center in the Law Enforcement Center. The James River Correctional Center (JRCC) is a separate North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation prison at 2521 Circle Drive in Jamestown.

Stutsman County Correctional Center

Use the county roster for people currently held in the local jail. SCCC houses sentenced and non-sentenced adult men and women and has a current stated capacity of 92.

James River Correctional Center

Use the ND DOCR Resident Lookup when the person may be serving a state sentence. JRCC is a state prison in Jamestown for men and is not the county jail.

Federal custody

SCCC says it has a boarding contract with the U.S. Marshals Service, so a federal detainee may be physically housed locally. For BOP custody records, use the federal locator; for a person held under another federal arrangement, confirm with the responsible agency or SCCC.

No name on the roster? Use this troubleshooting path

What to do when a person is not on the Stutsman County roster
Problem Possible explanation Next action
Arrest was very recent Booking or identity processing may not yet be reflected in the public view. Recheck the official roster and call SCCC at (701) 252-7436 if current custody must be confirmed.
Name is missing after a recent release The person may no longer be in current custody. Check the county’s 72-hour recently released page.
Court case appears, but no jail result A case record does not prove current incarceration. Use NDCRI for the case and the jail roster separately for custody.
The person may be serving a state sentence They may be in ND DOCR custody, including JRCC in Jamestown. Search the ND DOCR Resident Lookup.
Federal case or federal custody is involved The person may be in BOP custody or held under a federal arrangement. Check the BOP locator; if the issue is a local federal hold at SCCC, verify with the jail.
The arrest occurred outside Stutsman County Another county or facility may be the current custodian. Use the arresting agency, court paperwork or confirmed transfer information to identify the correct jurisdiction instead of searching random counties.

Bail at Stutsman County Correctional Center

SCCC publishes three current bail routes: cash, eligible bail bonds, and credit/debit card payment. Bail information is case-specific, and payment does not guarantee an immediate release because the jail still must process the court order and any other holds.

Cash bail

Cash bail can be posted 24 hours a day at the kiosk in the first-floor lobby of the Law Enforcement Center. After depositing bail, the county instructs the payer to use the call button next to the second-floor door or call (701) 252-7436, extension 6106.

Credit or debit card

The county says cards may be used 24/7 at the lobby kiosk or online through Inmate Canteen. District Court can also take card bail during its normal Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. hours.

Bail bond eligibility

A bonding company can be used only when the court allows it, typically determined at the initial appearance. SCCC can advise whether the offense is bond-company eligible at extension 6106 and does not recommend private bond companies.

Who receives a refund?

The county states that posted cash and card bail is forwarded to the court that set bail. Courts treat the bail funds as the defendant’s property, so any refund goes to the defendant rather than the person who paid.

Visitation, phone, messages and inmate money

Video visitation

SCCC uses Turnkey Corrections / Inmate Canteen for video visitation. A visitor must submit an application before the first visit, be at least 18, and have a current government-issued photo ID. The county says applications are approved or denied within five business days.

Current SCCC video visitation schedule
Visit type Availability Cost / limit
Online Every day: 8–10 a.m., 12–4 p.m., and 6–10 p.m. Central County describes a nominal online fee; visits are limited to 45 minutes.
Onsite kiosk Monday–Friday: 8–10 a.m. and 12–4 p.m. Central; not available weekends or government holidays falling Monday–Friday Free, first-come first-served; visits are limited to 45 minutes.

Onsite visitation kiosks are on the main level of the Law Enforcement Center. Children must be supervised. Visits are monitored and recorded, and privileges may be suspended for rule violations.

Phone, SMS and e-mail

The county directs friends and family to create an account at team3.inmatecanteen.com for phone, SMS or e-mail communication. Current per-message or call rates were not published on the county page reviewed here, so check the provider account before paying.

Depositing money

The visitation page says money can be added to an inmate account online through Inmate Canteen or at the lobby kiosk. The communication page also says cash may be delivered in person and cashier’s checks or official bank checks may be accepted by mail when properly completed. These inmate-account deposits are different from bail payments.

Release notifications: North Dakota SAVIN uses VINE to offer free, confidential updates involving incarceration, release and other status events. Registration options include phone, e-mail and text notifications.

Mail, photos, publications and property

Mail must show the sender’s full first and last name and full return address, and it must travel through a postal delivery service. SCCC says personal mail cannot be hand-delivered to the facility.

Mailing address

[Inmate full name]
c/o Stutsman County Correctional Center
205 6th St SE Suite 201
Jamestown, ND 58401

Privileged mail includes qualifying correspondence with courts, licensed attorneys, recognized inmate legal-service groups and certain government officials. SCCC says privileged mail is opened and screened for contraband in the inmate’s presence, but the contents are not read by staff.

Photos

Non-electronic photos must be 4×6 inches or smaller. An inmate may possess up to 30 photos. All photos remain subject to screening.

Books and publications

Publications may be sent through a vendor. SCCC allows up to five books, three days of newspapers and five magazines; mailed books must be paperback or softcover, not hardcover.

Language restriction

The county says mail wholly or partly in a language other than English may be denied unless the inmate has previously been approved to the limited-English-proficiency list.

Personal property

Personal property cannot be dropped off for an inmate without prior authorization from the Administrative Officer. Mail/property questions can be directed to SCCC at (701) 252-7436, extension 6102.

Which Jamestown court should you check?

Stutsman County’s court system includes District Court, Juvenile Court and Jamestown Municipal Court. The jail holding a person does not by itself tell you which court controls the case.

Southeast Judicial District Court

Stutsman County Courthouse
511 2nd Ave SE, Suite 202
Jamestown, ND 58401

Phone: (701) 253-6243. The North Dakota court page lists courthouse hours as 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Jamestown Municipal Court

205 6th St SE, Suite 104
Jamestown, ND 58401

Phone: (701) 251-2143. The city says this court handles Class B misdemeanors, infractions, non-criminal traffic offenses and other non-criminal matters.

For online public case information, use NDCRI. Public access does not require registration for available District and Municipal Court records, but some records are excluded from public access. NDCRI says its data is current through the end of the previous business day and is not the certified official court record.

Warrant caution: A court case, an arrest charge and an active warrant are different records. This review did not verify a public Stutsman County warrant-search page. If warrant status matters, confirm through the responsible court or law-enforcement agency rather than inferring it from the jail roster.

Police records, jail records and booking photos

Use the agency that owns the record. The SCCC roster is a jail-custody source. Jamestown Police Department maintains its own calls-for-service and police records, while the courts control court records.

Jamestown Police public-record requests

The Police Department accepts requests by phone, e-mail, mail or in person; its online form is optional. The first hour of locating records is free. After that, the city currently lists $25 per hour for locating records and a separate $25 per hour after the first hour for redacting exempt or confidential information. Standard paper copies are 25 cents per page. The city lists accident reports at $7 and body/dash camera records at $10 plus redaction/preparation charges after the first hour.

Police Records/Administration: (701) 252-2414, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m., 205 6th St SE Suite 101, Jamestown.

Booking photos

The current county roster links to recent-booking and recent-release pages described as offering high-resolution photos for media purposes. A booking photo is an identification image connected to an arrest record; it does not establish guilt or show the final case disposition. Do not rely on third-party “mugshot request” instructions when the county has not published the same procedure.

PREA reporting and urgent safety

SCCC accepts third-party reports of sexual abuse or sexual harassment by phone at (701) 252-7436, in writing at the correctional center, by e-mail at sccc@stutsmancounty.gov, through the county PREA web form, or through the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office at (701) 251-6200.

For an immediate emergency, call or text 911 as appropriate. Do not use an informational roster or a routine records request for emergency assistance.

Use jail and court records responsibly

An arrest is not a conviction. A booking charge is not a final court disposition, a warrant does not prove current incarceration, and a screenshot can become stale after a release or transfer. Verify current custody with the responsible jail and legal outcome with the court record.

Public jail information should not be used to harass, threaten, stalk or target a person. When identity matters, compare official identifiers carefully and avoid assuming that two people with the same name are the same person.
