Search the Live Jail List First—Then Verify Bond, Court, Visits or Release

The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Jail Inmate Locator is the correct starting point for people presently listed in county-jail custody. It can show current booking-related information, bond or bail information and visitation details, but the Sheriff warns that later status changes may not appear immediately.

Official sources reviewed October 3, 2026. Reopen the live jail, court and provider pages before paying, visiting, mailing, arranging pickup or relying on a custody change.

Quick answer

Use the Sheriff’s Locator for Current La Crosse County Jail Custody

La Crosse County’s official inmate service is designed to identify people presently incarcerated in the county jail. The Sheriff says it provides booking-associated information, including available bond or bail and visiting information, but also warns that the initial arrest data may not immediately reflect later changes in status.

The current list can be sorted by last name, first name, middle name, age, city, state and date arrested. Use several of those details together rather than relying on a name alone.

Do not read a jail entry as a criminal-history report. The Sheriff expressly warns that county-jail confinement does not establish guilt or conviction and notes that some people can be held for non-criminal matters such as civil contempt or failure to pay a forfeiture.

If a Person Is Missing From the Roster, Follow the Custody Trail

Recent arrest

Possible explanation

Booking or later status processing may not yet be reflected.

Next action

Refresh the live locator and call the jail if same-day confirmation affects safety, medication, bond or transportation.

Official route

Jail: 608-785-9630.

Name mismatch

Possible explanation

The current list may use a different legal-name format, middle name, former surname or spelling.

Next action

Sort the list by surname and compare age, city/state and arrest date before ruling out a match.

Official route

Active inmate locator.

Case exists but no jail entry

Possible explanation

A pending court case or warrant can exist without present jail custody.

Next action

Check Wisconsin Circuit Court Access and the county warrant list separately.

Official route

WCCA and warrant list.

Transfer or sentence

Possible explanation

The person may have left county custody for Wisconsin DOC, another county or a federal system.

Next action

Confirm the arresting agency, court, sentence or transfer destination before searching another database.

Official route

Wisconsin DOC, another verified county, or BOP only when the facts support that route.

A blank roster result is not proof of release. Current status can change during intake, court processing, transfer or release. Verify through the jail before arranging pickup or making a safety decision.

Court verification

Use Wisconsin Circuit Court Access for the Legal Case

The Sheriff’s own inmate-locator disclaimer directs users to Wisconsin Circuit Court Access for the final disposition of criminal charges. Use the roster for custody; use the court record for the filed case and later outcome.

Older and certified court records

La Crosse County says it began using CCAP in 1993. Cases from before that period may require courthouse research because older material can be in paper files or scanned to the county network.

The Clerk currently lists a $5 court-record search fee when staff perform the search and $1.25 per page for document copies. Not every court record is public, and the Clerk’s staff cannot provide legal advice.

Bond and release

Identify the Court and Payment Purpose Before Posting Bond

La Crosse County publishes different payment routes for County of La Crosse bonds, City of La Crosse municipal bonds and after-hours jail payments. Inmate-account money, ordinary court fines and bond are separate transactions.

SituationWhere / howCurrent county instructions
County bond, business hoursClerk of Courts, Room 1200, 333 Vine StreetCash, money order, cashier’s check or major credit card; no personal checks. Online/phone AllPaid uses code 1411 and adds a transaction fee.
City of La Crosse municipal bondCity Treasurer, 400 La Crosse StreetThe Sheriff lists cash, money order or personal check in person and directs municipal-court questions to 608-789-7290.
After hours / weekendJail Master Control, 333 Vine StreetMoney order, cashier’s check or major credit card; the Sheriff says no personal checks or cash. AllPaid code 1411 is also listed.

Do not confuse 1411 with 1410. The Sheriff lists AllPaid code 1411 for bond. The Clerk of Courts lists pay-location code 1410 for ordinary unpaid fines and forfeitures. Verify the transaction purpose before submitting a card payment.

Before you pay

  • Confirm the person is still in La Crosse County custody.
  • Confirm which court set the bond and every active case involved.
  • Ask whether any additional hold or warrant affects release.
  • Confirm the exact total and correct payment route.
  • Ask whether payment would make the person release-eligible.
  • Keep the receipt and confirm actual release before arranging pickup.

Bond refunds

The Clerk says an eligible bond refund is made after case disposition to the person who deposited it, within 10 days, by U.S. Mail. Restitution, fines, forfeitures or costs can be paid from the deposited bond, and a bond violation can result in forfeiture.

Visitation and communication

Current Visits Use Securus and Must Be Scheduled at Least 24 Hours Ahead

On-site

Free video visitation

The current Jail Services page offers on-site terminal visits seven days a week. On-site visits are free, but the appointment still must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.

Remote

Phone, computer or tablet

Remote visitation is also offered through Securus and carries a provider fee. Confirm the displayed fee before purchase.

Approval

Separate adult accounts

Each adult visitor needs an approved Securus visiting account. Using someone else’s account is not permitted.

Rules that commonly cause visit problems

  • One approved adult may bring one pre-approved minor for the entire visit.
  • The minor’s name and birth date must be registered under the specific visit.
  • Cell phones, tablets, smart recording devices, vaping devices and e-cigarettes may not be used or visible during an on-site visit.
  • Remote visitors may not take pictures or screenshots.
  • Former inmates must wait 60 days after release before visiting.
  • Rule violations can result in suspended visitation privileges.

Securus Video Connect assistance is listed at 1-877-578-3658.

Calls and eMessaging

The Jail Services page identifies Securus as the jail phone company. Funds can be added to an inmate debit account or to an AdvanceConnect account for calls to your number. Staff do not pass ordinary personal messages; the county directs personal electronic messages through Securus eMessaging.

Securus telephone support: 1-800-844-6591.

Recorded-communication caution: treat ordinary jail calls, visits and electronic messages as non-confidential. Do not use them for passwords, private financial data, witness coordination or confidential legal strategy.

Mail, money and packages

La Crosse County Does Not Accept Ordinary Physical Personal Mail or Photos

The current Jail Services policy states that physical personal mail, including photographs, is not accepted. The stated exceptions are legal mail and mail from other verified correctional facilities.

For ordinary personal communication, the county points to Securus eMessaging. Do not follow older third-party postcard, envelope or photo-mail instructions that conflict with the live county policy.

Inmate account

TouchPay deposits

The county lists a lobby kiosk, mailed cashier’s check and TouchPay. The TouchPay facility locator is 254601. Obtain the correct inmate number from the jail at 608-785-9630.

TouchPay deposit line: 1-866-232-1899
Customer service: 1-866-204-1603

Packages

iCare is the county-approved package route

La Crosse County says iCare is the only company from which inmate packages are accepted and that packages are delivered to inmates on Fridays. Recheck current custody and package eligibility before ordering.

Open iCare Gifts

TouchPay is not bond. A commissary or trust-account deposit does not satisfy a court-ordered bond, fine or other court balance.

Warrant vs. custody

An Active Warrant Is Not the Same as a Current Jail Booking

La Crosse County publishes a separate Circuit Court active warrant list with names, case numbers and warrant types. A person can have a warrant without appearing in the jail roster, and a warrant entry can remain visible while a recent payment or status change is still being processed.

Use the official warrant list for warrant information and verify important status with the Clerk of Courts at 608-785-9590. For non-emergency law-enforcement dispatch, La Crosse County lists 608-782-7575.

Do not confront or attempt to detain a person based on a warrant listing. Call law enforcement for an immediate safety concern.

Records and corrections

The Roster Is Not the Complete Sheriff, Police or Court File

If you need a report, body-camera recording, photograph or other Sheriff record, use the Sheriff’s public-records request rather than assuming the active inmate detail contains the full file.

RecordLikely custodianUseful request details
Jail booking / detention recordSheriff / Jail ServicesFull name, approximate arrest date and exact document requested.
Sheriff incident reportSheriff public-records custodianIncident number, date, location and involved names when known.
Squad / body-camera mediaSheriff public-records custodianIncident number, date/time and the specific recording sought.
Court complaint / filed documentClerk of CourtsCase number, party name and document title.

The Sheriff’s current request form lists email delivery as free and compact-disc delivery at $10 per disc plus shipping. It also says releasable records are usually provided within 10 days, although some requests can take longer because review and legally required redaction must occur first.

When an arrest-history record is wrong or a court case was expunged

Wisconsin DOJ explains that court-record expungement does not automatically remove an arrest event from the state criminal-history database. Eligible arrest-information removal is a separate Crime Information Bureau process using the DJ-LE-250B Fingerprint Record Removal Request, and eligibility is reviewed case by case.

Custody-change alerts

Use WI VINE as a Backup Notification Tool

Wisconsin DOC says WI VINE County Jails provides anonymous custody-status information and optional automated phone or email notifications. It is available to victims, law enforcement and the general public.

Enrollment/status line: 1-888-944-8463. Telephone registrants choose a four-digit PIN; automated calls can continue for up to 48 hours or until the correct PIN is entered.

Use WI VINE as a backup. When a release, transfer or safety issue is urgent, verify current custody directly with the jail.

Use Booking Information as a Custody Clue, Not a Verdict

  • An arrest or jail booking is not a conviction.
  • A booking charge can differ from the charge later filed or resolved in court.
  • A warrant does not prove current incarceration.
  • A bond amount does not guarantee release and can be affected by other holds or court action.
  • An old screenshot should not be used as proof of current custody.
  • Do not use public jail information to harass, threaten, shame or stalk another person.
  • Use certified records when a formal process requires them.
Common questions

La Crosse County Jail Roster FAQs

Where is the official La Crosse County Jail roster?

Use the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Jail Inmate Locator at the county-operated InmateView website. It is intended to identify people presently incarcerated in the La Crosse County Jail.

What information is shown in the active inmate list?

The current list can be sorted by last name, first name, middle name, age, city, state and date arrested. Individual detail records can provide available booking, bond or bail and visitation information.

Why might a recently arrested person be missing?

The Sheriff warns that initial arrest information may not immediately reflect later status changes. Booking may still be processing, the person may be listed under a different legal-name format, or the person may have been released or transferred. Recheck the live locator and call the jail when same-day confirmation matters.

Does a La Crosse County roster entry prove guilt?

No. The Sheriff states that pretrial inmates are innocent until proven guilty and that confinement in the county jail does not establish guilt or conviction. Use Wisconsin court records for filed charges and final dispositions.

Which AllPaid code is used for La Crosse County bond?

The Sheriff’s current bond instructions list AllPaid facility code 1411 for County of La Crosse bond payments. Do not confuse it with Clerk of Courts pay-location code 1410, which is listed for ordinary unpaid fines and forfeitures.

How do La Crosse County Jail visits work?

Current Jail Services guidance uses Securus. Visits are offered seven days a week, each adult needs an approved account, and appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. On-site visits are free and remote visits carry a provider fee.

Can I mail a personal letter or photograph to the jail?

No ordinary physical personal mail or photographs are accepted under the current county policy. Legal mail and mail from other verified correctional facilities are the stated exceptions. For ordinary personal messages, the county directs users to Securus eMessaging.

How do I add money to a La Crosse County inmate account?

The county lists a lobby kiosk, mailed cashier’s check and TouchPay. TouchPay facility locator 254601 is required, and the inmate number can be obtained from the jail at 608-785-9630. Inmate-account money is separate from bond.

How can I get notified about release or transfer?

WI VINE County Jails provides anonymous custody-status checking and optional automated phone or email notifications. The telephone line is 1-888-944-8463. Verify urgent changes directly with the jail rather than relying on an automated alert alone.

Where should I search after someone leaves La Crosse County Jail?

Use Wisconsin DOC when state custody or supervision is indicated, the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator when the case is federal, or another county only when an arresting agency, warrant, court or transfer record points there. A missing La Crosse County result by itself does not prove release.
