Nicollet County Jail Roster 2026: Inmate Search & Records

Nicollet County, Minnesota custody and jail-help guide

Find the Official Nicollet County Jail Roster, Then Verify the Record That Matters

For a current Nicollet County custody check, start with the county-linked List of Current Inmates. The Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office operates the jail in St. Peter; court cases, criminal-history records, state prison custody and federal custody use different systems.

FacilityNicollet County Jail
Location501 S. Minnesota Ave., St. Peter
OperatorNicollet County Sheriff’s Office
Published capacity34 inmates, not a live census
Do not treat a roster entry as a court judgment. An arrest, booking photograph, listed charge, warrant or bail field does not prove conviction. Use Minnesota Court Records Online for the legal case and confirm same-day custody or release details with the jail when timing matters.

Use the Source That Actually Answers Your Question

A jail roster answers a custody question. It does not replace the court docket, a Sheriff report, the state criminal-history system, a DOC locator or the federal inmate locator.

How to Read Nicollet County Roster Fields

The existing Nicollet County roster format has displayed fields such as photo, MNI, name, sex, age, booking number, intake date, charges and bail/bond information. Treat each field as a custody snapshot, not a final legal outcome.

Roster field What it can help confirm What it does not prove
Name, age, photo Helps distinguish people with similar names. Guilt, identity when other details do not match, or current status after the roster updates.
MNI A Minnesota criminal-justice identifier associated with the person’s record. A court disposition or that every record with a similar name belongs to the same person.
Booking number Identifies a particular jail booking event. That the person is still in custody after release or transfer.
Intake date When the listed booking was processed. A future release time.
Charge/status line The allegation, sentence/hold label or booking reason recorded by the jail. Conviction, dismissal, plea, acquittal or final sentencing result.
Bail/bond A jail-displayed amount or condition at that point in time. That the amount is still current, that every hold is cleared, or that payment will produce immediate release.

Troubleshooting

What to Do When the Person Is Not on the Nicollet County Roster

A missing name does not tell you why the person is absent. Work from the most likely custody explanation to the correct official system instead of searching random jail directories.

Problem: The arrest or booking was very recent
Possible explanation: intake and public-record processing may still be underway. Next action: check the county-linked roster again and, when same-day status matters, call the jail or Sheriff’s Office. Nicollet County does not publish a fixed roster-delay promise on the official pages reviewed.
Problem: The name is not matching
Possible explanation: spelling, a middle name, hyphenation or a legal-name difference may be affecting your search. Next action: compare the person’s full legal name and other identity details rather than relying on one spelling.
Problem: There is a court case but no jail listing
Possible explanation: a case, citation, warrant or hearing can exist without current Nicollet County Jail custody. Next action: check Minnesota Court Records Online and use the proper warrant or court contact if that is the actual question.
Problem: The person was released or transferred
Possible explanation: a roster designed for current inmates may stop showing someone after release or transfer. Next action: verify the case in court records and use Minnesota DOC, BOP or the confirmed receiving county/facility when transfer information points elsewhere.
Problem: The person may be in state or federal custody
Possible explanation: county jails, Minnesota DOC and the Federal Bureau of Prisons are separate custody systems. Next action: use the Minnesota DOC individual search for state corrections or the BOP locator for federal custody.

Local facility context

Nicollet County Jail in St. Peter

Who operates the jail?

The Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office operates the detention facility. The county says the facility was updated in 1984 and has a published capacity of 34 inmates.

Who can be housed there?

The county describes the jail as housing male and female inmates, including people who are sentenced, awaiting sentence or court action, serving straight time or participating in work release.

Accessibility support

The jail page says auxiliary aids and services are available for deaf and hard-of-hearing detainees, including sign-language or oral interpreters and TTY-related support. Ask the Sheriff’s Department for the appropriate coordinator when needed.

Court and release verification

Charges, Court Dates, Bail and Bond Are Separate Checks

Nicollet County District Court is part of Minnesota’s Fifth Judicial District and has original jurisdiction over criminal and traffic cases filed in the county, along with other district-court case types. The current Minnesota Judicial Branch court page lists the Nicollet County Courthouse at 501 S. Minnesota Avenue, St. Peter, with phone 507-550-7032.

For the legal case

Use Minnesota Court Records Online access for available public district-court records and documents. A courthouse public-access terminal can provide broader electronic access than remote access in some situations.

For current bail or bond

The jail roster can display bail/bond fields, but verify the current amount, conditions, holds and accepted payment route before sending money. The official pages reviewed did not provide a single current public bail-payment workflow detailed enough to reproduce safely here.

For release timing

Do not treat payment, a court order or an estimated release field as a guaranteed exit time. Other holds, paperwork and custody processing can affect release. Confirm same-day pickup or release status with the jail.

Payment scam check Inmate-account deposits, phone funding, court fines and bail are different transactions. Do not send a bail or bond payment through a link, caller or message that you have not independently verified through the jail or court.

Visits and communication

Visitation: Confirm the Appointment and Visit Length Before You Travel

Nicollet County’s Jail page and Sheriff FAQ agree on the published visiting windows: Tuesday 6–7:30 p.m., Thursday 8–11 a.m., and Saturday 1–4:30 p.m. They also agree that visitors need valid photo identification, minors must be with a parent or legal guardian, visitors cannot be under the influence, and people incarcerated in this jail during the prior 60 days are not allowed to visit.

Two official county pages conflict on visit length. The main Jail page says visits are limited to 30 minutes, while the Sheriff FAQ says 20 minutes and says visitors must call to schedule a visit. Because both are county sources, call before traveling and follow the instruction the jail gives you for the current day.
Day Published visiting window Before you go
Tuesday 6–7:30 p.m. Call to schedule or confirm, bring valid picture ID and confirm the current visit length.
Thursday 8–11 a.m. Confirm the inmate is still in custody and the visit has not been restricted.
Saturday 1–4:30 p.m. Confirm scheduling and current rules before travel.

Phone Calls and Voicemail

The county Jail page says Nicollet County uses Reliance Telephone. Inmates can purchase phone time, family or friends can fund phone time, and ordinary inmate calls may be monitored and recorded. The county says the jail generally does not accept incoming inmate calls through the main line except for an emergency.

The main Jail page lists 507-262-1022 for leaving a brief message for an inmate to call back and 800-896-3201 for a Reliance direct account. However, the Sheriff FAQ lists a different inmate-voicemail number, 507-931-9931. Verify the current voicemail route through the jail before relying on either number.

Mail, commissary and inmate funds

Use the Jail’s Published Mail and Deposit Channels

Inmate mail

Inmate Name
Nicollet County Jail
P.O. Box 117
St. Peter, MN 56082

The county says inmate mail is accepted through the U.S. Mail. Incoming and outgoing mail is inspected; legal mail is opened only in the inmate’s presence.

Money by mail

The Jail page says money orders or cashier’s checks made payable to the inmate are accepted. It specifically warns that the jail is not responsible for cash sent through the mail.

Online inmate-account deposit

The county Jail page links JailATM as its “Deposit Money for an Inmate Account” route. Check the live provider screen for current fees and required identifiers before submitting a transaction.

Do not confuse inmate-account money with bail. JailATM or commissary funds and mailed inmate-account funds are for the inmate account. They are not automatically a bail payment, court fine or guarantee of release.

Sentence reporting and Huber

Reporting to Jail and Nicollet County Work Release

For a person ordered to report to jail, the county says to arrive at the time on the sentencing order and not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The Jail page instructs people reporting for a sentence to bring the sentencing order, current prescription medications in their original containers, the booking fee, and permitted clothing or underwear items listed by the jail.

Huber Work Release Is Not Automatic

The judge must grant Huber, but the jail still verifies employment and program requirements before allowing work release. The county strongly recommends contacting the Jail Programmer after the court hearing and before the jail start date. The Work Release page lists the Jail Programmer at 507-934-7112, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.–3 p.m.

  • Booking fee: $25 is listed by the Jail and Work Release pages.
  • Drug test: the Work Release page lists a $25 urinalysis charge.
  • Schedule limit: generally no more than 6 workdays in a row and 48 hours per week; up to 60 hours including travel may be reviewed in special circumstances.
  • Out-of-county Huber: the Work Release page lists $75 per day and requires a judge’s order allowing Nicollet County reporting at the inmate’s expense.
Official Huber fee conflict Nicollet County’s general fee schedule lists “Huber Law” at $25 per day, while the current Work Release page says people sentenced in Nicollet County pay $30 per day from the first day they go out to work through the end of incarceration. Confirm the current charge with the Jail Programmer before budgeting or reporting.

Sheriff records and Minnesota data law

Arrest Reports, Sheriff Records and Booking Photographs

The Nicollet County Records Department maintains Sheriff’s Office crime and arrest records, traffic-accident reports and related documents. The county directs public records questions to 507-934-7100, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.

Inspection and copies

Nicollet County’s data-practices policy says public data may be inspected without charge. For Sheriff records, some documents are private or require a signed release.

Copy fees

For 100 or fewer black-and-white letter or legal paper copies, the Sheriff Records page lists 25¢ for a one-sided page and 50¢ for a two-sided copy. Payment is required before copies are provided.

Booking photographs

Minnesota Statutes § 13.82, subd. 26 generally classifies booking photographs as public data, but a law-enforcement agency may temporarily withhold one when access would adversely affect an active investigation.

For a formal county data request, use Nicollet County Data Practices Requests. For a criminal-history search rather than a current jail record, use the Minnesota BCA Public Criminal History system.

A booking photograph still does not show the outcome of the case. A photo documents an identification event connected with an arrest. It does not establish guilt, conviction, sentence or current incarceration.

When Nicollet County Is the Wrong Custody System

Minnesota DOC

Use the Minnesota DOC locator when the person may be committed to the Commissioner of Corrections or under DOC jurisdiction. The DOC says its public search includes people still under its jurisdiction, including some released from prison who remain under supervision.

Federal Bureau of Prisons

Use the BOP Inmate Locator for federal custody. BOP warns that release dates can change after sentence recalculation, so treat the locator as a federal custody source rather than a county-jail substitute.

Another county

If an arresting agency or transfer information identifies another Minnesota county, search that confirmed county’s official jail source. Avoid guessing through every nearby county without a factual reason.

Use Jail and Booking Information Responsibly

  • An arrest or booking entry is not a conviction.
  • A booking charge is not the final court disposition.
  • A warrant does not prove current incarceration.
  • A listed or estimated release status is not a guaranteed release time.
  • Old screenshots should not be treated as proof of current custody.
  • Do not use public jail information to harass, threaten, stalk or shame people.
  • Use court records for the legal outcome and official contacts for time-sensitive decisions.
  • Do not expose victim, witness, child, medical or other sensitive information from a public record.

Frequently asked questions

Nicollet County Jail Roster FAQs

How do I check the official Nicollet County jail roster?
Open the county-linked List of Current Inmates at roster.co.nicollet.mn.us. Compare the legal name with available age, MNI, booking number, intake date, charge and bail/bond details, then use the court or records system when your question goes beyond current custody.
Why is someone missing from the Nicollet County roster?
The person may be newly booked, released, transferred, listed under a different legal-name format, held by another county, under Minnesota DOC jurisdiction or in federal custody. Nicollet County does not publish a guaranteed roster-update delay on the official pages reviewed, so verify urgent status by phone.
Does a charge on the roster mean the person was convicted?
No. A charge or booking status is not a conviction. Use Minnesota Court Records Online or Nicollet County District Court to check the public case record and final legal outcome when available.
What are the Nicollet County Jail visiting hours?
The county publishes Tuesday 6–7:30 p.m., Thursday 8–11 a.m. and Saturday 1–4:30 p.m. The Jail page says 30-minute visits, while the Sheriff FAQ says 20 minutes and says to call to schedule, so confirm the current appointment and length before traveling.
How can I put money on a Nicollet County inmate account?
The county Jail page links JailATM for inmate-account deposits. It also says money orders or cashier’s checks payable to the inmate may be sent through the mail. Do not send cash, and do not confuse inmate-account funds with bail.
How do inmate phone calls work?
Nicollet County says it uses Reliance Telephone for inmate calling. Family and friends can fund phone time or establish a direct account; routine incoming calls through the jail are not accepted for inmates. Because county pages list two different voicemail numbers, verify the current voicemail route before using it.
Where do I send inmate mail?
Address U.S. Mail to the inmate’s name, Nicollet County Jail, P.O. Box 117, St. Peter, MN 56082. The county says incoming and outgoing mail is inspected and legal mail is opened only in the inmate’s presence.
How do I get a Nicollet County arrest or Sheriff report?
Use the Nicollet County Sheriff Records Department. The county lists 507-934-7100 for records requests Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; some records may be private or require a signed release, and copy fees may apply.
Are Nicollet County booking photographs public?
Minnesota Statutes § 13.82, subd. 26 generally treats booking photographs as public data, but law enforcement may temporarily withhold a booking photograph when access would adversely affect an active investigation. A public photo still does not establish guilt or case outcome.
When should I use Minnesota DOC or the federal BOP locator?
Use Minnesota DOC when the person may be under state corrections jurisdiction. Use the Bureau of Prisons locator when federal custody is plausible. Neither system replaces Nicollet County’s roster for a current county-jail booking.
