Olmsted County Jail Roster: Verify Custody Before You Pay, Visit or Mail

Olmsted County’s Adult Detention Center in Rochester publishes a searchable in-custody list that the county says is updated daily. Use that roster for current county jail custody, then switch to the court, warrant, records, DOC or federal source that matches the question you actually need answered.

1. CustodySearch the daily county list.
2. CaseUse court records for legal status.
3. ActionVerify bail, visit, mail or money rules.

Quick answer

The Olmsted County Sheriff is responsible for the Adult Detention Center (ADC), a 202-bed direct-supervision facility at 101 4th Street SE in Rochester. The county’s in-custody list is the correct first check for adult county jail custody, and the ADC can also confirm custody by phone at 507-328-6790.

The roster is updated daily, not guaranteed to be instantaneous, and the county warns that it should not be relied on for legal action. If bail, a hearing, a warrant, release, a historical record or transfer matters, use the separate official route in this guide.

Address trap: the ADC itself is at 101 4th Street SE. On-site social video visits are held at the Work Release Facility, 140 4th Street SE. Personal family/friend mail is processed at a separate Jonesboro, Arkansas P.O. box. Do not use one address for every task.

How to Search the Olmsted County Jail Roster

Open the county-hosted in-custody list

Use the Olmsted County web application, not a cached search result, mugshot directory or copied roster. The county identifies the list as the Adult Detention Center in-custody list and says it is updated daily.

Type at least two letters

The current search accepts a person’s first or last name and prompts for at least two letters. Start with the surname when you are unsure how the first name is stored.

Compare the full visible entry

Do not rely on a same or similar name. Compare the photo when available, booking date, incarceration reason, detainee description and charge information.

Record the details needed for the next source

Save the exact name, booking date, charge wording and any case or status information that can help the ADC or court identify the correct record.

Verify anything decision-critical

Call the ADC for time-sensitive custody or release questions. Use Minnesota court records or Olmsted County District Court for the legal case, and use the active-warrant system for warrants.

Update warning: “updated daily” does not mean real-time. A very recent booking, release or transfer can occur between public-list updates.
Understand what the list actually tells you

Olmsted County In-Custody Fields Explained

The live county list can display a detainee photo and photo date, booking date, incarceration reason, a detainee-description status, listed charges and charge level. Those fields describe a custody record; they are not a final criminal judgment.

Field What it helps answer What it does not prove
Photo / photo date Helps distinguish people with similar names. Identity by itself, guilt, or the final outcome.
Booking date When the person was processed into the ADC. A guaranteed release date or exact arrest time.
Incarceration reason Why the current custody record is categorized as it is. The complete court history or disposition.
Detainee description A current custody-stage label such as awaiting court or bail-related processing when displayed. That the status will remain unchanged after court action.
Charge / level The allegation and classification currently associated with the booking. Conviction, dismissal, amendment or sentencing.
Legal meaning: arrest ≠ conviction, a jail charge ≠ final disposition, a warrant ≠ current incarceration, and a roster status ≠ guaranteed release timing.
A blank result has more than one explanation

What to Do If the Person Is Not on the Olmsted County Roster

Very recent arrest

Possible explanation: the daily public list may not yet reflect a new intake.

Next action: call the ADC at 507-328-6790 if current custody matters now.

Name does not match

Possible explanation: a legal, maiden, hyphenated or alternate spelling may be used.

Next action: retry name variants and compare the booking details rather than a name alone.

Person was listed earlier

Possible explanation: release, transfer or a court-driven status change can remove a person from current custody.

Next action: check the court case and call the ADC before making pickup or payment plans.

Court case exists but no ADC entry

Possible explanation: a case or warrant can exist without current incarceration.

Next action: use MCRO, the court calendar and the separate active-warrant search.

State custody is possible

Possible explanation: a sentenced person may be under Minnesota DOC jurisdiction instead of county jail custody.

Next action: search the Minnesota DOC Public Viewer.

Federal custody is possible

Possible explanation: the person may be in a federal correctional system rather than the ADC.

Next action: use the BOP locator and remember that BOP release dates can be recalculated.

The ADC is an adult detention facility. Do not expect its public roster to function as a complete juvenile-custody directory or as a historical archive of every person ever booked.

Custody data and court data update differently

Olmsted County Court Records, Arraignments and Hearing Dates

Olmsted County District Court is part of Minnesota’s Third Judicial District and has original jurisdiction over civil, family, probate, juvenile, criminal and traffic matters filed in the county. Its courthouse is at 151 Fourth Street SE in Rochester.

Minnesota Court Records Online

MCRO is the statewide public district-court search. A major limitation matters in jail cases: pending criminal cases do not return when you search by defendant name before a conviction. For a pending criminal matter, use a case number, citation number, attorney name or attorney bar number when available.

Open MCRO Case Search

Olmsted court calendar

The court posts the next day’s calendar at 7:00 p.m. and updates it hourly beginning at 7:00 a.m. The calendar does not include every matter, so a missing name does not prove that a hearing was cancelled.

County “Court Details” page

Olmsted County also hosts a local arraignment-results page showing items such as arrest agency, arrest date/time, judge, charges and arraignment results for displayed matters. Treat it as a useful local workflow tool, not a substitute for the official court case record or a certified document.

How to Post Bail at the Olmsted County ADC

Olmsted County publishes separate bail procedures for business and non-business hours. Confirm the current bail, every case and any hold before anyone pays money.

When Where Accepted by the published instructions Important detail
8 a.m.–4 p.m., Monday–Friday, excluding holidays Court Administration, 5th floor, 151 Fourth Street SE Exact bail amount; cash, money order or credit card. No personal checks. Bring the court receipt to the ADC; the county says the receipt is required for release processing.
Non-business hours / holidays ADC lobby at the Government Center Exact cash, money order or an approved bail bond. No personal checks or credit cards. The ADC cannot make change. Use the lobby telephone to contact a deputy.

Olmsted County accepts bonds from bail bond agents approved by Minnesota’s Third Judicial District. The county page says bond agents usually charge a nonrefundable fee around 10% of bail; verify the agent’s current terms and licensing before signing anything.

If you are picking someone up and are “claiming responsibility for someone’s care,” the county states that the driver must pass a breath test to show they are sober.

Useful verification script: “I am checking current release eligibility for [full legal name]. Can you confirm the current bail, whether another case or hold affects release, the correct payment route right now, and whether anything remains after payment?”

No release-time promise: paying bail or presenting a bond does not guarantee immediate discharge. Release processing and other holds can still affect timing.
A warrant search is not a custody search

Olmsted County Active Warrants

The Sheriff’s Office maintains a separate searchable active-warrant database for misdemeanor, gross-misdemeanor and felony warrants; the public page says parking warrants are not included. The Sheriff processes and maintains warrant data, while warrants themselves are issued by judges through the court.

Search Official Active Warrants

A warrant result does not prove the person is currently in the ADC. Conversely, someone can be in custody for a reason that is not represented by a simple active-warrant search.

The county says a person with an Olmsted County warrant can turn themselves in at the ADC 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For warrant-specific questions, call the Warrants Division at 507-328-6830.

All social visits use video

Olmsted County Jail Video Visitation Rules

The ADC uses video visitation for all social visits, and the county says visits are recorded and may be monitored. Visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance through ICSolutions.

On-site

One free 20-minute visit per day

A detainee may have one free 20-minute on-site visit per day. A visitor may visit one detainee per day on-site.

Off-site

Remote video is available

The county allows unlimited off-site visits, subject to the vendor system and current rules. Test the device and connection before the scheduled session.

Visitors

One registered visitor

One registered visitor is allowed during a visit, plus one child if the child remains properly supervised.

Arrive at least 10 minutes before the appointment. Bring the ICSolutions confirmation code and a valid picture ID. The county describes the confirmation code as the phone number used for registration plus the four-digit PIN created during registration.

The live county page links to separate ICSolutions visitor rules for current appointment hours and conduct requirements. Because the external rule page was not reliably retrievable during this source review, this article does not invent or reproduce an unverified daily hour table.

Recheck the official visitation page before scheduling or driving.

Phone, electronic messages and mail use different providers

How to Contact Someone in the Olmsted County Jail

Phone calls

You cannot place an ordinary incoming call directly to a detainee. Detainees place outgoing calls through ICSolutions. The county lists ICSolutions support at 888-506-8407.

The county says the first time a detainee calls a number without an account, the first 60 seconds are free; continued calling requires a prepaid setup.

Electronic messages and photos

The county directs friends and family to JailATM for supported messages and photos after account/contact verification. The county lists JailATM help at 870-627-5476.

Urgent jail question

For custody or ADC questions, call 507-328-6790. Do not use ordinary inmate messaging for emergencies.

Personal mail goes to the Arkansas processing address

Handwritten letters in pen or pencil; typed letters; appropriate photos without gang signs. Blank paper; books, magazines or newspapers; envelopes; magazine articles or copies; items with odor, fluids or stickers; obscene or gang-related material; packages; personal or third-party checks; stamps.
Legal/privileged mail: the current public contact page reviewed for this refresh does not publish a separate legal-mail address. Do not assume the personal-mail P.O. box is correct for privileged legal correspondence; call the ADC before sending time-sensitive legal originals.

How to Deposit Money for an Olmsted County Detainee

Olmsted County uses Inmate Canteen for detainee purchases such as video time, phone time, envelopes, stamps, paper and vending food. The county says family and friends cannot receive details about the detainee’s account balance.

Online

Create an Inmate Canteen account through the link on the county deposit page. The county publishes a maximum of $500 per credit card, per detainee, per 30 days and says purchased credits are immediately available.

In-person kiosk

Kiosks are available at both the Work Release Facility, 140 4th Street SE, and the ADC, 101 4th Street SE. They accept cash, credit cards and debit cards. After regular business hours, use the intercom and explain that you want to add funds.

Negative balance: the county warns that if the detainee’s account has a negative balance, some or all of a new deposit must first be applied to that debt. Do not assume the entire deposit becomes spendable commissary credit.

Open the official deposit instructions.

A separate facility and separate eligibility

Olmsted County Work Release: Current Published Rules

Work Release is not automatic. The county says a person must be sentenced and court-ordered by a judge to be eligible, and the person must report to the Work Release Facility at 140 4th Street SE to obtain a report date if one is not already set by the court.

Item Current county page
Daily work-release fee $20 per day, paid one week in advance through the following Monday.
Booking fee $25.
ID card $5.
Required WRF kit $25 for a padlock, drinking cup, spork and shower shoes purchased from the WRF.
Canteen card deposit $5, described by the county as refundable upon release.
Maximum work 40 hours per week; work must be within 50 miles; no more than six consecutive work days.

The county also states that WRF staff verify work schedules and that past Adult Detention Center fees must be paid in full to participate in WRF programs. Recheck the live page before reporting because program rules and fees can change.

How to Request Older Olmsted County Data or Booking Records

For older records or county-held information that is not on the current roster, use Olmsted County’s Data Practice Request process. The county explains that government data is presumed public unless state or federal law classifies it otherwise.

Public data request

You may ask to inspect data, obtain copies, or both. The county says members of the public cannot be required to identify themselves or explain why they want public data, although contact information may be needed for delivery or clarification.

Copy costs

Public inspection is free. For letter/legal-size black-and-white copies up to 100 pages, the county policy says it may charge up to $0.25 per page. Other requests can involve actual reproduction, retrieval or vendor costs allowed by law.

Ask for a narrow record: name, approximate date, incident or booking context, report/case number if known, and the specific document or data you need. A narrow request is easier to route than “everything about this person.”

Open Olmsted County Data Practice Request

Booking photos

The current in-custody list visibly displays booking-related photos for listed detainees. A photo is a custody identifier, not evidence of conviction. For an older image that is no longer on the current list, use the county’s data-request process and let the county determine whether the requested image is public and what copy cost, if any, applies.

Need a statewide criminal-history check instead?

That is a different task. Minnesota Courts directs background-check users to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Public Criminal History system rather than MCRO.

PREA, Medical Concerns and Immediate Safety

PREA reporting

The ADC and Work Release Facility publish a zero-tolerance policy for sexual abuse and harassment. The county lists the chief deputy at 507-328-6837 during business hours and the on-duty supervisor at 507-328-6790 at any time.

Other published routes include law-enforcement dispatch at 507-328-6800, Victim Services crisis line at 507-289-0636, and the Sheriff Investigations Lieutenant at 507-328-6749.

Medical or mental-health concern

The Sheriff’s 2025 annual report says ADC Operations is responsible for detainee safety and security, including medical care. If you have urgent information that staff need to know, call the ADC and provide specific facts; do not expect staff to disclose protected medical information in return.

For an immediate emergency or imminent danger, use 911 rather than email or ordinary jail messaging.

Local facility context

Olmsted County ADC at a Glance

The Sheriff describes the ADC as a direct-supervision facility with a rated capacity of 202 beds for males and females. It houses pre-sentenced and sentenced detainees, boarders and people connected with work release, and it can house detainees for other federal, state and county agencies when space is available.

3,720 total detainees booked in 2025
122.98 2025 average daily population
7,901 2025 on-site + off-site detainee visits reported

The Sheriff’s 2025 annual report lists 4,336 on-site visits and 3,565 off-site visits. Those are annual operational statistics, not a current daily headcount.

Public information still needs context

Use Olmsted County Jail Information Responsibly

  • Do not treat an arrest, charge, warrant or booking photograph as a conviction.
  • Do not use a stale roster screenshot as proof of current custody.
  • Do not assume a missing roster result means no case or warrant exists.
  • Use court records for the legal outcome and certified copies when required.
  • Do not send bail, commissary or communication payments through an unverified caller or link.
  • Do not use public jail information to harass, threaten, shame or stalk a detainee, victim, witness or family member.
Ten practical Olmsted County questions

Olmsted County Jail Roster FAQs

How often is the Olmsted County in-custody list updated?

Olmsted County says the ADC in-custody list is updated daily. The county also warns that it cannot guarantee the information is current, accurate or complete, so call 507-328-6790 when same-day custody matters.

What information does the Olmsted County roster show?

The current list can display a booking-related photo and photo date, booking date, incarceration reason, detainee-description status, listed charges and charge level. Those are custody fields, not a final court judgment.

Why can’t I find a very recent arrest?

The list is updated daily rather than guaranteed real-time. Booking may also be under a different legal spelling, or the person may have been released, transferred or held by another agency. Call the ADC for time-sensitive confirmation.

Why can’t I find a pending Olmsted County criminal case by defendant name in MCRO?

Minnesota Courts says pending criminal cases do not return in MCRO when searched by defendant name before a conviction. Use a case number, citation number, attorney name or attorney bar number when available, or contact court administration.

Where do I post bail during business hours?

From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, the county directs users to Court Administration on the fifth floor of the Government Center at 151 Fourth Street SE. The court accepts the exact bail amount by cash, money order or credit card and does not accept personal checks. Bring the receipt to the ADC.

Where do I post bail after hours?

During non-business hours and holidays, the county directs users to the ADC lobby. Bring the exact amount in cash or money order, or an approved bail bond. Personal checks and credit cards are not accepted after hours, and the ADC cannot make change.

How do Olmsted County jail visits work?

All social visits use video and must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance through ICSolutions. One free 20-minute on-site visit per day is allowed for a detainee, and on-site visits are held at the Work Release Facility at 140 4th Street SE rather than inside the ADC address used for custody operations.

Where do I mail a personal letter to an Olmsted County detainee?

Address personal family/friend mail to Olmsted County Jail, the inmate’s name and inmate number, P.O. Box 16120, Jonesboro, AR 72401. The county says personal mail is digitally delivered. Do not assume the ADC street address is the correct personal-mail address.

How much can I deposit through Inmate Canteen?

The county publishes a maximum of $500 per credit card, per detainee, per 30 days for online Inmate Canteen credit. If the detainee has a negative account balance, some or all of the deposit may first be applied to that debt.

Does an Olmsted County active warrant mean the person is in jail?

No. The active-warrant database and the ADC in-custody list are separate. A warrant can exist without current jail custody, and a person can be in custody for reasons not represented by a simple warrant lookup.
