Quick Answer: How to Find Someone in Park County Jail

Start with the Sheriff’s public inmate route

The Park County Sheriff website links its public Citizen RIMS system for arrests, calls and inmates. For someone who may currently be jailed in Park County, use the inmate/incarcerated-person portion of that official public system rather than a third-party roster.

Call when the answer affects an immediate decision

The Sheriff lists 307-527-8761 for inmate status or bond questions. Use direct confirmation before driving to the jail, posting a bond, arranging pickup or relying on a roster entry that could change after release or transfer processing.

For general detention and visitation questions, the published Cody detention number is 307-527-8750.

Custody is not the same as a court case. Citizen RIMS answers sheriff-side public-record questions. Wyoming Circuit and District Courts control court filings, hearings, bail orders and final case outcomes.

Official Source Router: Use the Right Park County Record

A single name can appear in an arrest record, warrant record, jail record and court case for different reasons. Use the system that answers the specific question you have.

Arrest, Booking, Incarceration and Warrant Records Are Not Interchangeable

Arrest record

An arrest record describes a law-enforcement event. It does not prove that the person remains at the jail today, and it does not prove guilt.

Jail / inmate record

An inmate entry is the useful starting point when your question is present local custody. Call the detention center when you need confirmation for bond, pickup or another immediate action.

Warrant record

An active warrant may authorize an arrest, but a warrant alone does not show that the person has already been arrested or booked into Park County Detention Center.

Court record

The court file is the authoritative route for the legal proceeding. It can contain case actions and outcomes that are not part of a public jail record.

Booking charge ≠ conviction. The Park County Sheriff itself explains that a charge is an accusation and that being charged does not necessarily indicate guilt; only a court determines the case outcome.

Park County Mugshots and Booking Photos

The Sheriff routes public inmate and arrest searches through Citizen RIMS. A booking profile may include a photograph when that record is made publicly available through the Sheriff’s configuration, but this research did not establish a separate official Park County “mugshot archive” or guarantee that every booking has a publicly displayed photo.

If a photo appears in the official record

Treat it as a booking-related photograph, not evidence of conviction. The image does not show whether charges were dismissed, amended, resolved by plea or decided at trial.

If no public photo appears

Do not switch automatically to a mugshot-scraping site. If you need a Sheriff-held record that is not publicly displayed, use the Park County Sheriff records-request process. The agency determines what can be released under current law and applicable restrictions.

If You Cannot Find the Person

ProblemName is missing from the inmate list
Possible explanationThe person may not currently be in Park County custody, the booking may be recent, the record may use a different legal-name format or the person may already have been released.
Next actionCall the inmate status line at 307-527-8761. Do not invent a fixed roster-update delay.
ProblemYou found an arrest but no inmate
Possible explanationAn arrest entry describes an event; it is not the same as a current incarceration entry.
Next actionCheck the inmate function separately and confirm custody with the detention center.
ProblemYou found a warrant but no inmate
Possible explanationA warrant can exist before an arrest or booking.
Next actionUse the warrant record for the warrant question and the detention center for current custody.
ProblemThe person is no longer at the county jail
Possible explanationRelease, transfer or movement into another custody system may have occurred.
Next actionIf reliable information points to Wyoming DOC, use the WDOC locator. If it points to federal custody, use the BOP locator.
ProblemThe record looks completely wrong
Possible explanationYou may be searching the wrong Park County. Montana’s Park County is centered in Livingston; Colorado’s Park County jail is associated with Fairplay.
Next actionConfirm the state before using any address, phone number, court or roster result.
ProblemA court case exists but there is no inmate record
Possible explanationA case can continue after release, or a person may never have been in present Park County jail custody for that matter.
Next actionContact the correct Circuit or District Court instead of treating the court case as proof of incarceration.

Park County Detention Center: What the Official Sheriff Says

The Park County Detention Center is a 106-bed short-term county facility operated under the authority of the Park County Sheriff. The Sheriff specifically identifies it as a county facility rather than a state or federal correctional facility.

Who is held there?

The Sheriff says the facility is designed for male and female adults as well as male and female juveniles, and holds both pretrial and sentenced people.

How long can a local sentence be?

The detention page says court-imposed sentences served there can range from one day up to one year.

Which courts use the facility?

The Sheriff identifies Cody and Powell Municipal Courts, Park County Circuit Court and Park County District Court among the courts for which the detention center holds people.

The detention center operates around the clock. That does not mean every public service, visitation function, records desk or administrative office is available 24 hours a day.

Bond and Bail at Park County Detention Center

The Sheriff lists 307-527-8761 for inmate-status or bond questions. Its FAQ also instructs people arranging to post a bond to call the detention center at 307-527-8750. Confirm the current amount, case and payment instructions before bringing funds.

Payment forms published by the Sheriff

  • Cash
  • Cashier’s check
  • Money order

Cashier’s checks and money orders must be payable to the Sheriff of Park County. The Sheriff FAQ states that personal checks and credit cards are not accepted for bail.

Cash bond vs surety bond

The Sheriff FAQ describes cash bonds and surety bonds. With a surety bond, a bonding company guarantees the person’s appearance and ordinarily charges its own fee.

For a cash-bond refund, the Sheriff directs users to the court where the bond was posted. Court costs or fines can affect the returned amount.

Bond scam warning: The Wyoming Judicial Branch warns that scammers have posed as court officials and requested bond money through payment apps. Wyoming courts say they will not contact you requesting money this way. If a payment request is suspicious, independently call the local court using its official number.

Posting money does not guarantee an immediate release time. Another hold, court order, case or jail processing step can affect release.

Which Park County Court Has the Criminal Case?

Wyoming’s court structure matters because the jail name does not tell you which court owns every part of the case.

Park County Circuit Court – Cody

1002 Sheridan Avenue, Room 206
Cody, WY 82414

Phone: 307-527-8590
Fax: 307-527-8596
Email: cccod@courts.state.wy.us

Circuit courts handle misdemeanors, can set bail and can conduct preliminary hearings in felony cases.

Park County Circuit Court – Powell

109 West 14th Street
Powell, WY 82435

Phone: 307-754-8890
Fax: 307-754-8896
Email: ccpow@courts.state.wy.us

Use the Powell location when the case or citation belongs with that Park County court location.

Park County District Court

1002 Sheridan Avenue
Cody, WY 82414

Phone: 307-527-8690
Fax: 307-527-8687

District Court is the general-jurisdiction trial court and handles felony criminal cases.

Can you read Park County trial-court filings online?

Not through a general remote public trial-court filing portal. The Wyoming Judicial Branch states that it currently does not offer remote public access to filings in circuit or district courts. Filed documents can be viewed free at designated public-access terminals in Wyoming courthouses and at the Wyoming State Law Library, subject to confidentiality restrictions.

Park County District Court record-search cost

The Park County Clerk of District Court publishes a $10 written record-search fee, paid in advance. In-person record searches are free. That office performs criminal felony record searches; misdemeanor criminal searches are directed to Park County Circuit Court at 307-527-8590.

Park County Jail Visitation Rules

The current Park County Sheriff FAQ publishes the following visitation schedule and preparation rules:

Published visitation schedule

  • Saturday and Sunday only
  • 9:00 AM–11:00 AM
  • 1:00 PM–4:00 PM
  • 30-minute visits

Before arriving

  • Make the appointment at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Call the detention center to arrange the appointment.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes early.
  • Bring photo identification.
  • Visitors may not give items to or take items from an inmate.
Schedules and individual eligibility can change because of facility operations, classification, discipline or security needs. Confirm the visit with the detention center at 307-527-8750 before making a long trip.

Phone Calls, Tablets, Messages and Mail

The Sheriff’s currently linked April 2025 Inmate Rules and Regulations provide unusually specific communication rules. Because these are dated facility rules, recheck them before spending money or mailing unusual material.

Calls and electronic communication

The April 2025 rules identify NCIC Correctional Services as the inmate-communications provider and list 800-943-2189 and NCIC.com.

Calls can be placed from pod telephones and tablets. The rules describe normal phone use as outgoing only except for approved inbound voicemail. NCIC also supplies the facility’s kiosks, tablets, video-visitation and messaging functions.

The rules say normal personal messages from friends and family are not delivered by staff except for a verifiable emergency.

Mailing address

[Inmate Name]
c/o Park County Detention Center
1402 River View Dr.
Cody, WY 82414

The rules require a return address and allow legal and personal mail subject to facility inspection and restrictions.

Mail that needs extra attention

The April 2025 rules list letters, postcards, cards and money orders among acceptable mail. They prohibit or restrict numerous items including personal checks, postage stamps, blank stationery/envelopes, stickers, glitter, certain internet printouts and photographs.

Incoming personal mail is subject to opening and inspection. Legal mail is handled differently: the rules say incoming legal mail is opened in the inmate’s presence and checked for contraband rather than read by deputies.

Books and publications

The facility rules describe a preapproval process for publications and generally require approved softcover publications to come directly from a publisher or recognized distributor. Do not send a book first and assume it will be accepted; follow the current command-staff approval process.

Sending Money and Using Commissary

The Sheriff FAQ says inmates may receive funds for commissary and that money orders and cashier’s checks may be mailed. It specifically states that cash deposits are not accepted by mail.

Commissary timing in the April 2025 rules

The facility rules say commissary orders are placed Sunday evening and are generally provided after supplier delivery later in the week, most often Wednesday or Thursday.

A deposit may not all be spendable

The April 2025 rules state that when an inmate account has a debt, 50% of a new deposit is applied to the debt and 50% is available for commissary. Classification, housing status and disciplinary restrictions can also affect commissary access.

Before mailing money or using any third-party payment service, confirm the current process with the detention center. Provider arrangements and fees can change.

Medication, Medical Information and Property

Medication verification

The April 2025 rules say an inmate needing continued medical care or prescription medication should provide information for the treating provider and pharmacy. Medical records and medication verification must come from the clinic, hospital or pharmacy; the detention medical authority does not accept that verification from a third party.

The rules also say outside medication is generally not accepted unless it meets a facility-approved exception. Family members should call the jail before bringing medication rather than assuming a prescription bottle can simply be dropped off.

Medical requests and cost

The April 2025 rules describe a written Health Services Request process for non-emergency needs and list a $10 inmate-account charge for a medical-authority visit. Because the rules are dated April 2025, verify the current charge if the amount matters.

For an immediate medical emergency inside the facility, the incarcerated person should notify detention staff. Outside callers with urgent concerns should contact the facility; call 911 when an outside emergency requires immediate emergency response.

Property after transfer

The April 2025 rules say a person transferred to another facility without a scheduled return must arrange for property pickup. Property left for more than 10 days may become Park County Detention Center property and may be disposed of. The rules allow some separate release arrangements for keys, legal documents or identification documents.

If the Person Is No Longer in Park County Custody

Wyoming VINE

Wyoming VINE provides free, anonymous custody information and notification. The Park County Sheriff lists the toll-free number as 866-994-8463.

A useful local detail: the Sheriff says county-jail custody data is transferred to VINE every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. State DOC data is transferred once daily in the evening.

Wyoming Department of Corrections

Use the WDOC Offender Locator when reliable information indicates Wyoming state corrections rather than county jail custody.

The WDOC locator requires either a WDOC inmate number or at least the first two letters of the person’s last name. Names are based on official court documents.

Federal Bureau of Prisons

Use the BOP Inmate Locator for federal custody. BOP says its locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to the present.

BOP warns that projected release dates can change as sentence calculations are updated.

Use Jail and Booking Information Responsibly

  • An arrest is not a conviction.
  • A booking charge is not the final court disposition.
  • A warrant does not prove current incarceration.
  • Online custody information can change after release or transfer.
  • A mugshot or booking photograph does not show the outcome of the criminal case.
  • For a legal outcome, verify the appropriate court record.
  • For present custody, verify the Sheriff’s current inmate information or call the detention center.
  • Do not use public jail information for harassment, stalking, threats, intimidation or impersonation.
