St. Croix County Jail Roster: Inmate Search & Booking Records

St. Croix County, Wisconsin custody guide

Use the Sheriff-Linked Jail Roster First—Then Match the Record to the Right Court or Service

For current local custody in St. Croix County, start with the St. Croix County Jail Inmate Roster and Public Safety Portal linked by the county. The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office operates the jail at 1101 Carmichael Road, Suite G200, Hudson, Wisconsin.

The county says the same public safety portal can provide a current inmate list and open-warrant information. A roster entry is a custody record, not a conviction or a complete criminal-history report.

Choose the Official Source That Matches Your Question

St. Croix County custody, a Wisconsin court case, an open warrant, a jail account, and state-prison custody are different records. Start with the source designed for the specific question you need answered.

Open warrant informationThe county says the same Public Safety Portal includes open warrants. The Sheriff’s FAQ also directs warrant checks to Wisconsin Circuit Court Access.

Victim custody notificationUse Wisconsin VINE through the county’s Victim Notification Service page.

Do not mix records: a warrant can exist without current jail custody, a jail booking can exist before the court case develops, and a person can leave the county jail while the criminal case remains active.

What a Jail Roster or Booking Record Can—and Cannot—Tell You

The Sheriff’s Jail FAQ says the facility can hold people arrested or charged with offenses ranging from misdemeanor driving matters to serious felonies, as well as people serving a sentence. The jail also sometimes holds intoxicated individuals temporarily until transportation to a detoxification center is available.

Record typeBest useDo not assume
Current inmate rosterCheck whether a person appears in St. Croix County jail custody when you search.A missing name proves the person was never booked, or that every prior booking remains searchable.
Booking informationUnderstand the custody event and any details the live portal makes public.A booking allegation is a conviction or final charge.
Open-warrant informationCheck whether the public safety system or court record shows a warrant.A warrant means the person is currently in the St. Croix County Jail.
WCCA court recordFollow the public Wisconsin circuit-court case, hearings, and court-side developments.A court case proves present jail custody.

Arrest is not conviction. Booking information reflects a custody stage. Filed charges can change, cases can be dismissed, and later court outcomes belong in the court record rather than the jail roster.

No Inmate Result? Troubleshoot Before Searching Random Counties

Booking may still be processing

A newly arrested person may not be visible immediately. St. Croix County does not publish a fixed roster-delay promise on the pages reviewed. Call the jail at 715-386-4752 when the arrest is very recent.

Name mismatch

Recheck spelling, middle-name differences, former surnames, hyphenation, and suffixes using only the controls the live portal provides.

Released after booking

A current-custody portal may no longer show a person who has left the jail. Use WCCA for the continuing court case and WI-VINE if custody notification is your goal.

Another Wisconsin county

Identify the arresting agency, court, warrant county, or transfer destination first. Do not guess a nearby county solely because the St. Croix roster has no result.

Wisconsin DOC custody

After a state-prison sentence or transfer, use the Wisconsin DOC locator. DOC expressly notes that its database does not cover people sentenced only to county jail.

Federal custody

If federal custody is plausible, use the BOP Inmate Locator. A county roster and federal inmate locator serve different systems.

Warrant is not custody: St. Croix County’s Public Safety Portal includes open-warrant information, and the Sheriff’s FAQ points users to Wisconsin Circuit Court Access for warrant checks. A warrant result still does not prove the person is presently housed in the jail.

Initial Court Appearance and Release Timing

The St. Croix County Jail FAQ says an inmate’s initial court appearance is typically at 1 p.m. on the following business day after arrest. Weekends, holidays, case circumstances, and court orders can affect what happens next.

The same county FAQ says release can take 2 to 3 hours. Treat that as the county’s general guidance, not a guaranteed release time. Bond processing, other holds, court orders, transportation, and administrative processing can change the actual timing.

How Bond Works in St. Croix County

St. Croix County provides online bond instructions, a jail-lobby kiosk, and a Clerk of Courts route for certain payments. Verify the current bond amount and payment method before submitting money.

Online bond through JAILATM

The county instructs users to call the jail at 715-386-4753 first so bond information can be uploaded. Then use JAILATM, select St. Croix County Jail, WI, select the inmate, and confirm the payment by email.

Bond over $10,000 or cashier’s check

The county says a bond over $10,000, or a payment by cashier’s check, must be completed with the Clerk of Courts during regular business hours.

Jail lobby kiosk

The county says the lobby kiosk can accept cash or a scanned credit card at any time of day or night. The published bond page lists an additional $3 fee for cash and a 10% fee for credit-card use.

Bond can be forfeited

The county warns that violating court-ordered bond conditions can lead to forfeiture. It also states that if the person is found guilty, bond money can be applied to restitution, fines, or costs under Wisconsin law.

Paying bond does not create an instant-release guarantee. Confirm the total bond, any other holds, and the correct payment route before paying or arranging pickup.

Video Visitation and Phone Calls

St. Croix County uses video visitation

The county currently states that no in-person visits are available. Remote and lobby-kiosk video visits use HomeWAV, and visitors must register online.

Visit optionPublished schedule / cost
Remote visit6:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. daily; last visit begins at 9 p.m.; county lists $0.25 per minute.
Free lobby-kiosk visitOne free 20-minute visit per inmate per week. Monday & Thursday 9 a.m.-noon; age 55+ Tuesday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Wednesday & Friday 2:30-5 p.m.
Paid lobby-kiosk availabilityMonday & Thursday noon-9:30 p.m.; Wednesday & Friday 4-9:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Saturday & Sunday 8:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m.

Before paying for minutes, register with HomeWAV, choose the St. Croix County facility and inmate, and run the audio/video and internet-speed tests provided by the vendor. The county advises calling the jail for current information before a visit.

Phone calls

Inmates can make collect calls and can purchase phone time through the canteen kiosk system. St. Croix County says prepaid phone services are currently provided by HomeWAV.

Inmates may not receive incoming calls or ordinary messages. The county says a life-or-death emergency message may be considered after a deputy verifies the emergency.

Why official verification matters: some third-party jail directories still list a different telephone carrier. The current St. Croix County page identifies HomeWAV, so use the county page before funding an account.

Mail, Inmate Accounts and Canteen

Mailing address

St. Croix County Jail mail

Inmate Name
St. Croix County Jail
1101 Carmichael Road
Hudson, WI 54016

The county requires a sender’s full return name and address. Letters without a complete return address are returned to the post office.

Do not send

Perfume or lipstick on the exterior, Polaroid photographs, personal checks, property, stamps, envelopes, or contraband. The county says contraband may be returned or destroyed at staff discretion.

Photos and letters

The Jail FAQ says photographs must be appropriate and that photos, notes, letters, and cards must arrive through the U.S. Postal Service rather than being dropped off.

Adding money to an inmate account

St. Croix County lists four deposit routes: cash or credit card at the jail-lobby kiosk; cashier’s check or money order at the front window; certified funds by U.S. Mail; and online deposits through JAILATM. Personal checks are not accepted.

Canteen timing

Canteen is offered once per week to inmates with a positive account balance. The county says funds must be in the inmate’s account by 11 a.m. Tuesday for Wednesday delivery.

Prescription Medication, Eyeglasses and Personal Property

What can be dropped off?

The Jail FAQ says ordinary property cannot be dropped off. The exceptions are prescription medication, eyeglasses, or other medical equipment, and these items must be approved by the jail nurse.

Prescription medication may be dropped off in a clean, appropriately marked prescription container. The county says the container information is used to help verify the inmate’s doctor, pharmacy, and dosage.

Do not send medication through ordinary inmate mail. Use the jail’s current medical-property process and call 715-386-4752 when approval or timing matters.

Property after release

If a released inmate leaves personal belongings at the jail, the county says the inmate must pick them up or designate another person to pick them up within 30 days of the release date. A designee must bring identification.

Property confiscated as evidence is different. The county directs people to the police department that arrested the inmate. For an impounded or towed vehicle, contact the arresting agency and/or the impound lot.

Sheriff Records and Booking-Record Requests

The live roster is the first source for current custody, but it is not the entire Sheriff’s record. St. Croix County’s public-records notice states that the Sheriff is the legal custodian of Sheriff’s Office records under Wisconsin public-records law.

Public-record request route

St. Croix County Sheriff
ATTN: Public Records Request
1101 Carmichael Road
Hudson, WI 54016
715-381-4320
sheriff@sccwi.gov

How specific should the request be?

The county notice says requests may be oral or written and should be reasonably specific about the subject matter and time period. Ask for an existing record by type, approximate date, person, incident number, or location when known.

The Sheriff’s public-record notice says records can be withheld when they do not exist or are not accessible under public-records law, and that fees may apply. For a court disposition, judgment, or filed case record, use WCCA or the Clerk of Courts instead of treating the Sheriff as the court-record custodian.

WI-VINE Custody Notifications

St. Croix County identifies Wisconsin VINE as a free and anonymous service for information and notification. The county says VINE monitors custody status in Wisconsin county jails and makes information available by phone or online 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

VINE is useful when you need a notification workflow rather than repeatedly refreshing a roster. A notification still should not be treated as a court judgment or complete criminal record.

When to Search Wisconsin DOC or Federal Custody

Wisconsin Department of Corrections

The Wisconsin DOC locator provides public records for convicted people sentenced to incarceration, supervision, or both with DOC. DOC expressly states that the database does not provide information on people sentenced to county jail.

Open Wisconsin DOC Locator

Federal Bureau of Prisons

The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to the present. If a person is listed as released or not in BOP custody, the BOP notes that another correctional or law-enforcement system may still have custody.

Open Federal Inmate Locator

Do not switch to DOC or federal search simply because the county portal has no result. Use the arresting agency, court record, warrant source, or confirmed transfer information to identify the correct system.

Use St. Croix County Jail Information Responsibly

A roster entry, booking, charge, or warrant is not proof of guilt. Court records control legal outcomes, and custody can change after bond, release, transfer, sentencing, or another hold.

Do not rely on an old screenshot as current custody proof. Do not use jail, warrant, or court information to harass, threaten, stalk, shame, or impersonate another person. Recheck time-sensitive information through the official source before acting.

Why might a recently arrested person not appear on the roster?

A booking may still be processing, the name may be entered differently, the person may have been released or transferred, or another county, Wisconsin DOC, or federal system may have custody. St. Croix County does not publish a fixed roster-delay guarantee on the pages reviewed.

Does an open warrant mean someone is in the St. Croix County Jail?

No. The county’s Public Safety Portal includes open-warrant information, but a warrant and current incarceration are different statuses. Check the current inmate roster separately.

When is the first court appearance after an arrest?

The St. Croix County Jail FAQ says the initial court appearance is typically at 1 p.m. on the following business day after arrest. Court schedules and case circumstances can change, so verify the actual case through WCCA or the Clerk of Courts.

St. Croix County provides online JAILATM instructions, a jail-lobby kiosk, and a Clerk of Courts route. The county says to call 715-386-4753 before an online bond payment so the information can be uploaded. Bonds over $10,000 and cashier-check payments must go through the Clerk of Courts during business hours.

Can I visit an inmate in person?

The current county page says no in-person visits are available. Video visitation is provided through HomeWAV, with remote visits and lobby-kiosk options under the county’s published schedule.

Can I call an inmate directly?

No. Inmates place outgoing collect or prepaid calls. The county says ordinary incoming calls and messages are not accepted, except a life-or-death emergency message that a deputy verifies.

How do I add money to an inmate account?

The county lists cash or credit card at the jail-lobby kiosk, cashier’s check or money order at the front window, certified funds by U.S. Mail, and JAILATM online. Personal checks are not accepted.

Can I drop off prescription medication?

The Jail FAQ says prescription medication can be dropped off in a clean, properly marked prescription container, subject to jail-nurse approval. Eyeglasses and other medical equipment may also be accepted with nurse approval; ordinary property cannot be dropped off.
