Read the Kittitas County Jail Roster Status Before You Pay, Visit or Drive
The official Kittitas County Sheriff roster separates people currently housed at Kittitas County Jail from people released during the previous three days. Start there, then verify bail, court, visitation, money, mail or release through the official system that actually controls that task.
A roster entry is a custody record, not a conviction. Charges, court dates and legal outcomes should be checked with the correct Kittitas County court.
Go Straight to the Task You Need
First Decide: Current Custody or Recently Released?
The county roster currently has two practical sections: In custody and Recently released. The Sheriff states that the recent list covers people previously housed during the past three days.
| Roster result | What it means | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| In custody | The person is listed as currently housed when the roster was refreshed. | Open arrest information, verify bail/court, then confirm the service you need. |
| Recently released | The person was housed during the prior three days and now has a released date on the roster. | Do not fund or schedule a jail service without first confirming the person is no longer housed or has not transferred. |
| No match | The roster does not currently show the searched person. | Check name variations, call the jail for urgent custody questions, and use the court/DOC/federal routes when appropriate. |
Which Official Source Answers Your Question?
Current or recent county custody
Current bail amount
Call Kittitas County Jail at 509-962-7527. The roster itself advises direct jail confirmation for the most accurate bail amount.

Visits, phone, email or chirping
Use the county’s Jail FAQs and Inmate Sales instructions.
Commissary or care package
Use the county-approved Inmate Canteen route after confirming the correct person and current custody.
Sheriff report or public record
Use the Sheriff Records Division, not the jail roster.
State prison or federal custody
Use Washington DOC for state custody and the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator for federal custody.
How to Search the Kittitas County Jail Roster
- Open the Sheriff’s roster. Start on the official Kittitas County page rather than a sponsored background-search page or copied booking directory.
- Check both status sections. Look first under current custody, then the recently released list covering the previous three days.
- Match the legal name carefully. Check middle names or initials, suffixes, maiden/former names, hyphenation and reasonable spelling variations.
- Compare multiple fields. Use age, city/state, Local ID and arrest date. Open the arrest-information control for the selected record when available.
- Verify the next action separately. Call the jail for current bail; use the correct court for a hearing; use the current provider instructions before paying, visiting or mailing.
What the Roster Fields Mean
The current public list shows name, age, city and state, Local ID, arrest date, arrest information and a VINE notification route. The detail area can display offense information, custody/release status and total bail.
| Field | Useful for | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Finding the person listed in the county record. | A name-only match proves identity. |
| Age / city & state | Additional identity comparison. | The city is a current home address. |
| Local ID | Distinguishing a county jail record. | It is the court case number or Washington DOC number. |
| Arrest date | Comparing timing to the event you are checking. | It is a court disposition or guaranteed release date. |
| Offense / arrest info | Understanding the authority or allegation tied to custody. | It is a conviction or final charging decision. |
| Total bail | Starting a bail question. | The displayed amount is still current or payment guarantees release. |
No Result? Follow the Custody Trail Instead of Guessing
Booking may still be underway
Possible explanation: an arresting agency has not completed transport or the jail is still entering the booking.
Next action: recheck the roster; call 509-962-7527 when the answer is urgent.
The name is different
Possible explanation: former surname, maiden name, suffix, spacing or spelling differs.
Next action: search reasonable legal-name variations and compare age, location and timing.
The person was released more than three days ago
Possible explanation: the short recent-release window has expired.
Next action: use Sheriff Records or the correct court for older local records.
The person transferred
Possible explanation: another county, Washington DOC, federal custody or another confirmed authority now has custody.
Next action: follow the agency/court trail rather than randomly searching counties.
A court case exists without jail custody
Possible explanation: an active case, warrant or future hearing does not by itself mean the person is incarcerated.
Next action: use the correct court record.
The person is in an Upper/Lower court matter
Possible explanation: jail and court systems answer different questions.
Next action: identify the court district and call that court for case/hearing information.
Verify Bail With the Jail Before Paying
Kittitas County says the jail is a 24/7 facility that accepts supported bail payments at any time, but it tells users to call 509-962-7527 for the individual’s current bail amount. A roster amount should be treated as a starting point, not a payment instruction.
Exact cash at the jail
The county FAQ says the exact listed cash amount may be brought to the jail front door. Confirm the amount before travelling because the jail cannot rely on a stale screenshot.
Licensed bail-bond company
The county says authorized bonding companies can write bonds and charge their own nonrefundable fee. The jail does not recommend a particular company.
AllPaid card route
The county lists AllPaid for supported online card bail payments and says the provider adds a transaction fee. County-listed assistance numbers are 1-888-604-7888 and 1-877-392-2455.
Kittitas County Has Two District Courts — Pick the Correct One
This is a major local distinction. Kittitas County divides District Court jurisdiction into Upper and Lower districts, while felony cases are filed in Superior Court.
Lower Kittitas County District Court
205 W 5th Ave, Suite 180
Ellensburg, WA 98926
509-962-7511
Current hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
County code places Ellensburg, Kittitas, Vantage and other listed lower-county precincts in this district.
Upper Kittitas County District Court
700 E 1st Street
Cle Elum, WA 98922
509-674-5533
Hours: Mon–Thu 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Fri 8 a.m.–noon and 1–4:30 p.m.
Upper precincts include Hyak, Easton, Ronald, Roslyn, Cle Elum, South Cle Elum, Teanaway and other county-code-listed areas.
Kittitas County Superior Court
205 W 5th Ave, Suite 207
Ellensburg, WA 98926
509-962-7533
Current published schedule lists the criminal in-custody docket Thursday at 9:00 a.m. and out-of-custody docket Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
The jail FAQ says it may not have an inmate’s court-date information until the day of the hearing. For statewide reference searching, use Washington Courts Name and Case Search; Washington Courts states the search is reference material and the official record remains with the court of record.
A Warrant Is Not the Same as Current Jail Custody
A person can have a court warrant and not appear in the current jail roster. If Upper Kittitas County District Court issued the warrant, the court currently publishes three resolution routes: request a show-cause hearing, post a cash or surety bond, or turn yourself in at Kittitas County Jail.
Read Upper District Court warrant guidance before acting. For another court, contact that specific court because procedures can differ.
Video Visits Through Inmate Sales
Visits are appointment-only, set up by the visitor and must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. The county currently publishes a general visitation window of 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Sunday through Saturday, and the selected appointment must fit the inmate’s available out-time.
On-site video visit
- Schedule through the jail lobby monitor, Inmate Sales or provider phone assistance.
- 30-minute visit.
- County FAQ currently says on-site visits are free.
- Government-issued photo ID is required.
- Visits outside inmate out-time can be cancelled.
At-home video visit
- Schedule through Inmate Sales.
- 30-minute visit.
- County FAQ lists $0.20 per minute in one section.
- The same FAQ’s setup guide lists a 30-minute minimum purchase for $9.23.
- Check the current provider total before purchase because the county page is internally inconsistent on remote pricing.
Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by the required adult/legal guardian, and proof of guardianship may be requested. The county prohibits inappropriate dress/behavior, food, drinks and smoking in the visitation area, and states that on-site and off-site visits are recorded and may be monitored.
Provider help listed by the county: 1-877-998-5678.
Phone, Email and Chirping Are Separate Products
Kittitas County identifies CTEL/Inmate Sales as the communication provider. Calls must be initiated by the inmate; jail staff do not take routine personal messages.
| Service | Current county guidance | Check before paying |
|---|---|---|
| Phone | County FAQ lists Direct Pay and PIN Debit and currently publishes $0.20/minute for local, in-state toll and out-of-state calls. | Which phone product you need and current provider fees. |
| The FAQ directs users to the Inmate Sales app/site; its setup guide currently lists bundles starting at $12.30 for 30 emails. | Current bundle price and recipient identity at checkout. | |
| Chirping | A requested device can support text messaging; the county says ongoing device/message fees apply. | Current monthly/device/message charges on Inmate Sales. |
Commissary Deposits and Care Packages Use Inmate Canteen
The county directs family and friends to Inmate Canteen for commissary deposits and approved care-package orders. The jail lobby’s black kiosk can also accept cash and supported credit/debit cards; the county says a valid driver’s license is required for card transactions.
- Confirm the person is still in current custody before depositing.
- Select the Kittitas County account, not a similarly named facility.
- Match the full name and inmate/local ID.
- Choose phone/communication funding versus commissary carefully.
- Review provider service fees before payment.
- Keep the receipt and confirmation number.
The county says inmates can purchase items such as phone time, commissary, chirps, stamps and hygiene products, subject to jail availability and account rules.
Personal Mail Is Scanned; Legal Mail Uses the Jail Address
The jail homepage continues to flag a separate mail process, and the current FAQ reproduces the county’s scanning instructions. Ordinary friends-and-family mail should not be sent to the physical jail address.
Standard non-legal mail
Kittitas County Washington
P.O. Box 76550
Highland Heights, KY 41076
Legal mail, subscriptions and publisher-sent books
Kittitas County Jail
205 W 5th Ave, Suite 1
Ellensburg, WA 98926
Personal-mail rules that commonly cause rejection
- Include the inmate’s full name and inmate ID and the sender’s return address.
- Use material no larger than 8.5 × 11 inches and no thicker than light card stock so it can pass through a sheet-fed scanner.
- Do not include cash, checks, money orders, stamps, blank envelopes, stickers, homemade/musical cards, non-white paper or envelopes, glitter, raised decorations, glue, paint or white-out.
- Pictures are the only permitted enclosures at the Kentucky scanning address; the county allows up to 10 photographs per package, printed on photo paper and subject to content restrictions.
- Legal mail and certified mail requiring the inmate’s signature should not be sent to the Kentucky scanning address.
Medication Drop-Off and Property Release Need Direct Coordination
Prescription medication
The county says medication can be brought to the jail front door in the person’s own prescribed bottle or bubble pack. The prescription must be valid and unexpired; mixed medication, medication outside its prescribed container, expired medication or medication without a valid prescription can be rejected.
Call before travelling when medication is urgent or the packaging is unusual.
Property release
The inmate must complete and sign a property-release form before another person can pick up items. The recipient’s name must be on the form, the recipient must bring photo ID and sign for the released items, and the jail states it does not mail inmate property.
Programs and Reentry Support Are More Than a Generic “Jail Services” List
Kittitas County publishes several jail programs, but participation depends on sentence status, classification, approval, staffing and individual circumstances.
Work / school release
Approved individuals may continue qualifying employment or school while serving jail time. The county provides an application route.
Inmate worker & work crew
Sentenced people may apply for approved work within the jail, and minimum-security inmates may have off-site county work opportunities.
GED preparation
The jail provides GED preparation support but says it is not currently a GED testing facility.
Religious services
Services are generally offered Wednesdays and Sundays in group or one-to-one settings based on classification and availability.
AA / NA
Volunteer-supported Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous programming may be offered in group or individual settings.
Treatment / reentry
The county FAQ describes Hub and Spoke opioid-use-disorder support, medication-assisted treatment, Merit resources, HopeSource reentry assistance and Comprehensive Healthcare behavioral-health services.
Urgent Medical, Mental-Health or PREA Concerns
An online roster is not an emergency channel. If you believe a person in custody faces an urgent health, self-harm, withdrawal, mental-health or sexual-safety concern, call the jail at 509-962-7527 and provide the person’s full legal name, inmate/local ID when known, approximate booking date and the specific concern.
A Jail Roster Is Not a Certified Sheriff Report or Court File
For Sheriff records, use the Kittitas County Sheriff Records Division. The office asks requesters to provide contact information and a clear description such as case number, involved names, incident date and incident type.
Sheriff Records Division

Ellensburg, WA 98926
509-962-7525
sheriff.office@co.kittitas.wa.us
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., excluding holidays.
The division says the public-records officer responds within five business days with records, clarification, an estimate or an exemption explanation as applicable.
Superior Court records
Kittitas County Clerk
205 W 5th Ave, Suite 210
Ellensburg, WA 98926
509-962-7531
clerk@co.kittitas.wa.us
Current office hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–noon and 1–4:30 p.m.
For District Court records, use the Lower or Upper District Court that owns the case. For a current Superior Court filing, the County Clerk—not the jail—is the record custodian.
If Kittitas County No Longer Has the Person
Washington DOC
Use after a transfer into state correctional custody. Search by DOC number or first/last name.
Federal BOP
Use when a federal sentence or federal custody history applies. BOP says its locator contains records for federal inmates released after 1982 and current federal records.
VINE custody notification
The Kittitas roster provides a VINE link for each listed person. Use the correct person’s roster entry to register for supported custody-status notifications.

Use Booking Information Responsibly
- Arrest and booking are not convictions.
- A listed offense is not necessarily the final prosecutor-filed charge or court disposition.
- A warrant does not prove current incarceration.
- A recently released roster entry does not mean the person is still physically in the jail.
- Do not use stale screenshots as proof of current custody.
- Do not use jail information to harass, threaten, stalk, shame or misidentify someone.
- Use the court record for legal outcomes and a licensed attorney for legal advice.
Kittitas County Jail Roster FAQs
How do I search the official Kittitas County jail roster?
Open the Kittitas County Sheriff’s official Jail Roster. Check both the current-custody and recently released sections, then compare the legal name, age, city/state, Local ID and arrest date before relying on a match.

Yes. The Sheriff says the roster includes people currently housed and people previously housed during the past three days. A recently released entry should not be treated as current custody.
What information appears on the roster?

Why might a recently arrested person not appear?

How do I add phone or commissary money?
