Find Fargo-Area Jail Custody Through the Cass County Roster
If you are searching for a “Fargo jail roster,” start with the Cass County Jail Roster. Fargo arrestees who remain in local adult custody are housed through Cass County, and the county’s roster lets you search by name or jacket number, view current custody entries, check today’s bookings, and open mugshot links when a photo is published.
Do not rely on a third-party page that describes a separate “Fargo City Jail.” The City of Fargo’s own custody guidance points users to Cass County Jail, while Cass County lists the jail at 450 34th Street South, Fargo, ND 58103 and the current Corrections phone as 701-271-2900.
Which Official Fargo or Cass County Source Should You Use?
A roster, court case, warrant, police report and state-prison record answer different questions. Start with the custody source, then move to the agency that controls the next fact you need.
Current custody or today’s booking
Use the Cass County Jail Roster. It offers a name/jacket-number search, a full current list and a “Today’s Bookings” view.
Court case or final disposition
Use the North Dakota Court System public-access page. Its case-search data is stated to be current through the end of the previous business day.
Fargo city-ordinance case
Use Fargo Municipal Court for Fargo ordinance matters, including covered Class B misdemeanors, infractions and traffic violations.
Warrant question
The Cass County Sheriff Warrants page publishes a warrants line and tip routes. A warrant is not proof that the person is currently in jail.
Fargo police report
Use the Fargo Police Records Bureau when Fargo Police owns the incident report.
State or federal custody
Use ND DOCR Resident Lookup for qualifying state custody and the Federal BOP Inmate Locator for federal prison custody.
How to Search the Fargo Jail Roster Correctly
Open the county roster
Go to the Cass County Jail Roster. Avoid commercial lookup forms that require personal information before showing an “inmate search.”
Search by name or jacket number
The official search box accepts a name or jacket number. If you are unsure of the exact spelling, use the roster’s alphabetical/current-list options rather than guessing a different county.
Compare the full booking row
Check first, middle and last name, booking date, booking number, charge lines and the Photo column. Do not identify someone from a mugshot alone.
Save the booking number
Cass County uses the booking number for practical tasks. The county’s bail page requires it for online credit-card bail, and the personal-mail instructions require the inmate name plus booking number.
Verify the next fact in the right system
Use the jail for current custody, the court system for case status and disposition, and the arresting agency for its police or incident report. A booking page is not a complete court file.
What Cass County Booking Fields Mean
| Field | What it helps confirm | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Name | The person associated with the booking row. | A name-only match is enough when people share similar names. |
| Photo / mugshot | A booking image may help distinguish records. | The photograph proves guilt or shows the final court result. |
| Booking date | When the displayed jail booking began. | It is the arrest time, court date or release date. |
| Booking number | The specific booking event and an identifier used for jail services. | It is the same as a court case number or jacket number. |
| Charge / hold | The allegation or custody reason displayed by the jail. | It is a conviction or final disposition. |
| Jacket number | A person-level jail search identifier accepted by the roster. | It replaces the booking number for bail, mail or court searches. |
Fargo Mugshots on the Cass County Jail Roster
The current Cass County roster includes a Photo column and publishes “Click for mugshot” links on displayed inmate rows. Use the image as one identity clue together with the person’s name, booking date and booking number.
A mugshot records a booking event. It does not show whether a charge was dismissed, amended, reduced, resolved by plea, or resulted in conviction. For those questions, use the North Dakota court case search and review the case disposition.
If you need an official record or a booking-related record that is not available on the roster, use the Cass County Sheriff open-records request. The county says requesters will be contacted if fees apply; release can also depend on applicable public-record restrictions.
Why Someone May Not Appear on the Fargo Jail Roster
| Problem | Possible explanation | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| The arrest just happened | The person may still be in transport or intake and not yet visible on the public roster. | Recheck the official roster. The City of Fargo also lists 701-241-5799 as a 24-hour custody-information line; Cass County Corrections lists 701-271-2900. |
| The name does not match | Spelling, multiple surnames or a different legal name can prevent a quick match. | Use the roster’s alphabetical list and compare booking details rather than switching immediately to a paid people-search site. |
| There was an arrest, but no current custody row | The person may have been released, transferred, or never remained in Cass County custody. | Check North Dakota Courts for the case and call the jail if same-day custody matters. |
| The incident happened across the river | Moorhead is in Minnesota, not Fargo/Cass County, North Dakota. | Use the responsible Minnesota authority. For local context, see our Clay County Jail Roster guide. |
| The person was sentenced to state custody | A transfer to a North Dakota DOCR facility moves the search out of the county-jail system. | Use ND DOCR Resident Lookup. Its public tool covers people currently incarcerated in a North Dakota correctional facility, subject to the limits stated on that page. |
| Federal custody is involved | The roster can show federal holds, but a later federal transfer may move the person outside Cass County. | Use the Federal BOP locator for federal prison custody and verify current status with the responsible federal agency when needed. |
| The person is a juvenile | Cass County’s adult roster is not the correct route for juvenile detention. | Cass County states that juvenile detention is contracted to West Central Regional Juvenile Center in Moorhead, Minnesota; the listed center number is 218-299-5150. |
| You found a warrant but no jail record | A warrant authorizes legal action; it does not prove the person has been arrested or booked. | Keep warrant and custody checks separate. Use the Cass County Sheriff warrant contact for the warrant and the jail roster for custody. |
Bail and Bond at Cass County Jail
First verify that the person is physically in Cass County Jail and confirm the current bail amount or bond eligibility. The county states that fine payments go directly to the court; the jail’s bail options are for bail only.
Cash
Cash bail can be posted 24 hours a day through the jail-lobby kiosk. After depositing bail money, the county instructs the payer to notify front-desk staff or use a lobby intercom.
Credit card
Credit-card bail is available for a person physically incarcerated at Cass County Jail. It can be paid at the jail with photo ID matching the cardholder name or online through the county-designated AllPaid/GovPay route. The county currently lists an 8% credit-card bail fee.
Bail bond agency
Some offenses are eligible for a bail-bond company. Eligibility can depend on the initial court appearance; jail staff can advise whether a listed offense is bond-eligible.
Review current Cass County bail instructions before payment. Paying bail does not guarantee an immediate release time because holds, court processing and other legal conditions can still affect release.
Which Fargo Court Handles the Case?
The City of Fargo says arraignment location depends on where the person was arrested and the type of charge. Do not choose a court only because the person is housed at Cass County Jail.
Fargo Municipal Court
Fargo Municipal Court handles criminal and non-criminal violations of Fargo city ordinances, including covered Class B misdemeanors, infractions and traffic violations.
Temporary location currently published:
Second floor, Fargo Civic Center
207 4th St. N.
Fargo, ND 58102
Phone: 701-241-1316
The city says this temporary relocation began August 31 because of structural concerns at the prior court building. Check the official court page before traveling.
Cass County District Court
State-level criminal cases in Cass County are handled through the East Central Judicial District at the Cass County Courthouse.
Cass County Courthouse
211 9th St. S.
Fargo, ND 58103
Clerk: 701-451-6900
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
Online case search
The North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry covers public criminal/traffic records and certain municipal court records, including Fargo Municipal Court. The system states that its data is current through the end of the previous business day, so a same-day booking may appear at the jail before the court portal catches up.
Cass County Jail Video Visitation
Cass County currently states that all personal visitation is video. Inmates use individual tablets, and the public can use four lobby terminals at no cost. The county recommends an appointment, although a walk-up connection may be possible when a public terminal is not already in use or reserved.
- Visiting becomes available throughout the jail starting at 8:00 a.m. daily.
- Video visiting shuts off at noon for lunch and again at 5:00 p.m. for supper.
- Evening availability depends on the inmate’s housing-unit lockdown, ranging from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- The county says inmates are no longer restricted by a number of visits per day, but can be on only one visit at a time.
- Remote visits from a personal device are currently listed at $0.14 per connected minute.
- Use the county’s visitation page before scheduling because housing restrictions or operational needs can change availability.
Phone Calls and Electronic Messages
Outgoing calls only
Cass County states that inmates can make outgoing calls from tablets and wall-mounted phones during the same general times listed for personal visitation.
Current phone rate
The county currently lists inmate phone calls at $0.05 per minute. Prepaid collect/direct funding is routed through ICSolutions; the published setup phone is 866-228-4031, option 1.
Messages and photos
Inmates can send and receive electronic messages and photographs through their tablets. Cass County warns that electronic messaging is not private or privileged.
For attorney calls, Cass County says attorney numbers must be registered with the jail before they are marked private for inmate use. New attorney-number requests are verified.
Personal Mail No Longer Goes Directly to the Fargo Jail
Cass County says that as of March 10, 2025, personal mail is scanned for tablet access and personal letters are not accepted directly at the jail. Personal letters must be physically mailed to the county’s published scanning address:
Personal mail scanning address
Cass County Jail(Inmate Name, Booking #)
P.O. Box 16120
Jonesboro, AR 72401
Do not use that scanning address for books and publications. The jail says new, softcover books/publications may be sent directly from a publisher or major warehouse distributor to the physical jail address, subject to security review:
Inmate Name
Cass County Jail
450 34th Street S.
Fargo, ND 58103
Privileged mail from attorneys, judges, court clerks, government officials and listed legal authorities can still be mailed directly to the jail or dropped off there. Mark qualifying mail as privileged; the jail verifies and inspects it before delivery.
How to Deposit Money for an Inmate
Cass County says every inmate has a general spending account. The county currently publishes three ways to put money into that general account:
- Online by credit card through Inmate Canteen: up to $300 every 30 days.
- Cash at the jail: deposit cash in the lobby kiosk.
- Money order by mail: make it payable to Cass County Jail, put the inmate’s name on the memo line, and send it to Cass County Jail, Attn: Accounting, 450 34th St. S., Fargo, ND 58103. The county specifically says not to include letters or notes in that envelope.
For direct phone funding, the county points users to ICSolutions. For tablet media and video-visiting services, it points users to JailATM. This is different from adding money to the inmate’s general spending account.
PREA Reports, Victim Notifications and Health Questions
PREA third-party reporting
Cass County says it accepts third-party reports of sexual abuse or sexual harassment on behalf of people in its correctional facilities.
PREA contact:
701-271-2966
prea@casscountynd.gov
Call 911 for an immediate life-threatening emergency rather than using a routine records or email channel.
ND SAVIN / VINELink
Cass County points victims and concerned citizens to statewide automated victim information and notification. Users can register for custody-status notifications by phone, email, SMS or TTY through VINELink.
Jail Records, Fargo Police Reports and Warrants
Fargo Police incident reports
For an incident investigated by Fargo Police, use the Fargo Police Records Bureau rather than the jail. The department’s current report page says incident crime reports cost $0.25 per printed page, and requests taking more than one hour can incur an additional $25 per hour. The department can email results when an email address is provided.
Fargo Police also says it may be unable to release an incident crime report while the case has not cleared the court process, and juvenile, domestic-violence and other protected information can be redacted. Accident reports use a different route.
Cass County Sheriff open records
For a record held by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, use its online Open Records Request. The county asks requesters to describe the record and says they will be contacted if fees apply.
Warrants are not a custody roster
The Cass County Sheriff currently publishes a warrants line at 701-241-1283 and a warrants email at warrants@casscountynd.gov. That page is for warrant information/reporting; it should not be treated as proof that a person is in jail.
When to Search Somewhere Other Than Cass County Jail
North Dakota state prison
Use ND DOCR Resident Lookup. DOCR says the public lookup is for people currently incarcerated in a North Dakota correctional facility and lists exceptions for some out-of-state placements.
Federal prison
Use the BOP Inmate Locator. A person once shown with a federal hold in Cass County may later move into a federal custody path.
Juvenile detention
Cass County says it contracts with West Central Regional Juvenile Center in Moorhead, Minnesota. The published number is 218-299-5150. Do not expect the adult Cass County roster to answer juvenile-custody questions.

Use Fargo Booking Information Responsibly
- An arrest is not a conviction.
- A booking charge is not the final court disposition.
- A warrant does not prove current incarceration.
- A mugshot documents a booking event, not guilt.
- A saved screenshot can become stale after release, transfer or a record update.
- Court records control the legal case outcome, not a jail-directory summary.
- Do not use public custody information for harassment, threats, stalking or retaliation.
- When safety depends on a release or transfer, verify directly with the responsible official source.
Fargo Jail Roster FAQs
Does Fargo have its own city jail roster?
For the Fargo adult-custody search most people mean, use the Cass County Jail Roster. The City of Fargo directs users checking local custody to the Cass County Jail roster and says arrestees who remain in custody after arraignment are housed under Cass County Sheriff custody.
What is the official Fargo jail roster website?
The official county-hosted search is roster.casscountynd.gov. It supports name or jacket-number search, current listings and a Today’s Bookings view.
Can I see Fargo mugshots on the roster?
The current Cass County roster has a Photo column and displays “Click for mugshot” links on published booking rows. A booking image does not establish guilt or show the final court result.
Why can’t I find someone who was just arrested in Fargo?
Intake or transport may not yet be reflected in the public roster, or the person may have been released or moved. Recheck the official roster and use the current jail contact; the City of Fargo also lists 701-241-5799 as a 24-hour custody-information number.
What is the Cass County Jail phone number?
Cass County’s current Corrections and facility-directory pages list 701-271-2900 for the jail at 450 34th Street South in Fargo. This is the primary number used in this guide.
How do I pay bail for someone in Cass County Jail?
Cass County currently allows cash through the lobby kiosk, eligible bail-bond agencies, and credit-card bail in person or through its designated online processor. Online credit-card bail requires the inmate booking number, and the county currently lists an 8% credit-card transaction fee.
Are Cass County Jail visits in person?
Current county guidance says all personal visitation is video. Four jail-lobby terminals are available to the public at no cost, and remote personal-device visits are also available for a per-minute fee.
Where do I mail a letter to a Cass County inmate?
Personal letters are sent to the county’s scanning address: Cass County Jail, inmate name and booking number, P.O. Box 16120, Jonesboro, AR 72401. Books, publications and privileged mail follow different rules, so check the official mail page before sending anything.
How do I check a Fargo court case after a booking?
Use North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry for public criminal/traffic case data and certain municipal cases. The portal states that data is current through the end of the previous business day, so same-day jail information can appear sooner than the court record.
What if the person was transferred to North Dakota state or federal custody?
Use ND DOCR Resident Lookup for qualifying North Dakota state-facility custody and the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator for federal prison custody. A county jail result is not a permanent locator after transfer.
