Find the Grand Forks Jail Roster, Then Verify the Right Record
For adult county-jail custody, start with the official Grand Forks County Corrections Latest Roster. The roster can show a mugshot field, listed charges, bail information and a scheduled release date when available, but it is a custody record—not the final court record.
Use the Right Official Source for the Question
A single roster cannot answer custody, court, warrant, bail and release-notification questions equally well. Use the source that owns the record you need.
Grand Forks Latest Roster
Best first stop for a person currently appearing in Grand Forks County Corrections and for roster-level mugshot, bail and charge fields.
Open official roster →North Dakota Courts
Use court records for hearings, case actions and disposition. Do not treat the jail charge list as the final legal outcome.
Open public court access →Grand Forks County Bail Options
Use the county’s bail page for cash, credit-card and bond eligibility instructions; confirm the current amount and case before paying.
Review official bail options →North Dakota DOCR Lookup
Use this after a transfer to a North Dakota state correctional facility or when the county roster no longer fits the custody situation.
Search ND DOCR →Federal BOP Locator
Use the federal locator when the person may be in Bureau of Prisons custody rather than a county jail.
Search BOP →ND SAVIN / VINE
North Dakota’s free notification service can provide custody and court-related status notifications for registered users.
Review ND SAVIN →How to Search the Official Grand Forks Jail Roster
The public route is a PDF rather than a typical search box. A verification-first workflow reduces mistaken identity and prevents an old downloaded roster from being treated as live custody.
-
1
Open the county’s official Latest Roster
Use the Grand Forks County Corrections PDF rather than a copied third-party inmate page.
-
2
Check the report date
Look for the generated date shown in the PDF. If the event is newer, treat the roster as a snapshot and call the jail.
-
3
Match more than a name
Compare date of birth and available custody details before deciding that a record belongs to the person you are searching for.
-
4
Read bail and charge fields cautiously
A listed charge is a booking/custody field, not a conviction. A displayed bail amount can change after court action.
-
5
Move to the correct court record
Use North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry when you need hearings, filings, case status or disposition rather than custody.
-
6
Reconfirm before acting
Call GFCCC before paying bail, planning a pickup, visiting, mailing property or relying on an expected release.
What the Grand Forks Roster Fields Actually Mean
| Roster field | What it can tell you | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Name / date of birth | Identity-matching information in the custody report. | That every same-name result is the person you intended to find. |
| BioPhoto / Mug-Shot | A booking-identification image is associated with the roster entry when supplied. | Guilt, conviction, sentence or final case outcome. |
| Booking bail / bail amount / type | The roster’s displayed bail information at the time of the report. | That the amount is still payable, that every hold is cleared, or that payment guarantees immediate release. |
| Charges | Charges associated with the custody record. | A conviction or the final charge/disposition entered by the court. |
| Scheduled release date | A scheduled date when the field is populated. | The person has actually been released; holds, orders and processing can change the outcome. |
For a final court disposition, use North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry and the appropriate clerk. For same-day physical custody, the jail is the source to verify.
No Name on the Roster? Use This Troubleshooting Order
| Problem | Possible explanation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Recent arrest | The public PDF may not yet reflect the newest booking, or the copy you opened may be cached. | Check the PDF-generated date, then call GFCCC at 701-780-8224. |
| Name not found | Spelling, hyphenation, former surname or identity mismatch. | Try a careful text search in the PDF and verify date of birth rather than relying on name alone. |
| Known court case, no custody result | A criminal case or warrant can exist without current incarceration. | Use North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry and the correct court. |
| Person disappeared from county roster | Release, transfer, state custody, federal custody or another agency’s hold. | Verify with GFCCC, then use ND DOCR, BOP, ICE locator or the documented receiving jurisdiction as appropriate. |
| Expected release did not happen | Another case, hold, court order or release processing may affect discharge. | Do not rely on the scheduled-release field alone; ask GFCCC whether the person is actually release-eligible. |
| Juvenile matter | Adult GFCCC procedures and public access rules do not automatically apply to juvenile detention records. | Use the correct juvenile authority instead of applying adult jail instructions. |
Grand Forks Custody Has a Local Detail Many Directories Miss
The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s 2025 inspection says GFCCC moved under the authority of Grand Forks County Sheriff Andrew Schneider on April 8, 2025. The same report identifies the facility at 1701 North Washington Street and gives a maximum rated capacity of 308.
The inspection also documents agreements to house people for the U.S. Marshals Service, Bureau of Prisons, U.S. Air Force, ICE, Border Patrol, North Dakota DOCR, Parole and Probation, and Walsh and Traill counties. That means the physical jail, arresting agency, case court and legal custodian are not always the same entity.
Bail and Bond: Verify the Case Before Paying
Grand Forks County’s bail page separates bail from court fines. It states that bail deposits are forwarded to the court that set bail and may later be applied to court costs, fees or fines. The county also states that the court treats posted bail funds as the defendant’s property and any refund goes to the defendant rather than the person who paid.
Jail-lobby kiosk
Cash bail can be posted 24 hours a day through the jail-lobby kiosk. After depositing, the county instructs the payer to notify staff at the front desk or lobby intercom.
In person or AllPaid
Credit-card bail is limited to people physically incarcerated at GFCCC. In-person cards require matching photo ID; the designated online processor is AllPaid and charges a service fee.
Eligibility varies
Some offenses are eligible for a bail-bond agency. The county says eligibility is commonly determined at the initial appearance, though some misdemeanor matters may qualify earlier.
Before submitting money
- Confirm the person is still physically at GFCCC.
- Confirm the current bail amount and bail type for every relevant case.
- Ask whether another hold or case affects release eligibility.
- For online credit-card bail, get the case/file number from GFCCC.
- Do not confuse a commissary deposit with bail.
- Do not assume payment creates an immediate release time.
GFCCC bail verification: 701-780-8224. Read the county’s current Bail Options page.
Which Grand Forks Court Should You Check?
The jail address does not determine the court. Grand Forks has a municipal court for city and park-district ordinance matters and a state district court for matters within the Northeast Central Judicial District.
Grand Forks Municipal Court
Address: 1701 N Washington St, Grand Forks, ND 58203
Phone: 701-787-8160
The City describes this court as handling city and park-district ordinance violations, including matters within its Class B misdemeanor and non-criminal jurisdiction.
Grand Forks County District Court
Address: 124 South 4th St, Grand Forks, ND 58201
Clerk: 701-787-2700
Regular hours: 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Grand Forks County is in the Northeast Central Judicial District. Use this court for district-court matters rather than assuming Municipal Court because the arrest occurred inside Grand Forks city.
First-appearance timing published by county corrections
The county corrections Court Information page currently lists Municipal Court at 8:30 a.m.; District Court first appearances at 1:30 p.m. Monday and Friday, and 9:00 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Court calendars can change, so verify the specific case instead of treating these times as a guarantee.
Use NDCRI for the legal case record
North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry is free and normally available around the clock except maintenance. The Judicial Branch says its online information is not the certified official court record and warns that name searches can match different people. Its public data is current through the end of the previous day/business day.
Open North Dakota Public Court Access
Warrants are a separate question
Grand Forks Police directs Municipal Court warrant questions to 701-787-8000 (press 2) and District Court warrant questions to the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office at 701-780-8280. A warrant does not prove current jail custody. Never attempt to locate or apprehend someone based on a warrant result.
Bookings and Mugshots: What the Official Roster Can and Cannot Do
The official Grand Forks roster format includes a BioPhotos / Mug-Shot field alongside custody data. That makes the county roster the first official route when the user’s question is “is there a current booking and booking photo?”
For a current roster booking
Use the Latest Roster, check the generated date, match identity details and then move to the court system for the case status or disposition.
For a police report or older agency record
Use the record-owning law-enforcement agency. Grand Forks Police maintains its own records bureau, while GFCCC/Sheriff custody records are a different record set. Do not assume a city police report and county jail record are interchangeable.
A mugshot records a booking event. It does not show whether a charge was dismissed, reduced, amended, acquitted, convicted or otherwise resolved. Court records—not the photo—control the legal-case outcome.
Visitation, Phone Service and Electronic Communication
Video visitation
Grand Forks County offers onsite and offsite video visitation. Sessions are limited to a maximum of 20 minutes and begin on the hour, at :20 and at :40. Visitors must register and be approved; the county says to allow up to 24 hours for approval.
| Onsite day | Current published windows |
|---|---|
| Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday | 9:00–11:00 a.m. and 7:30–9:30 p.m. |
| Wednesday afternoon | 2:00–4:00 p.m. |
| Saturday, Sunday | 1:30–4:30 p.m. |
Onsite visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance through HomeWAV, its app or visitor support, and the inmate must accept or decline the request. The county says onsite visits are free; offsite visits are provider-priced. Registration requires a clear visitor photo and a legible driver’s-license image.
Check the live county visitation page before scheduling.
Phone / HomeWAV support
The county’s Inmate Phone Service page lists HomeWAV support at 1-844-394-6639 (8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) and support@homewav.com. Provider rates and account rules can change, so use the live provider information rather than an old jail-directory fee table.
Money, Commissary, Mail, Property and Medication
TurnKey / Inmate Canteen
The current Sheriff corrections FAQ directs the public to TurnKey/Inmate Canteen to place money on an inmate account for commissary or phone and messaging time.
Open Inmate Canteen. Confirm the correct inmate and facility before paying.
Request starts with the inmate
The county corrections FAQ says an inmate may submit a Release of Property request. Pickup can occur the day after the request between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.; the authorized person must be named on the request and bring valid picture ID. The page lists a $1 fee for release of funds.
Mail: use the county rules, but confirm the addressing format
The county corrections FAQ states that mail is received and sent Monday through Friday excluding holidays, incoming mail must have a return address, and mail/enclosures are inspected for contraband. It also says lipstick, perfume and added items beyond postage/addressing are not accepted and describes restrictions on outgoing and inmate-to-inmate mail.
Property and medication drop-off
The current Sheriff corrections FAQ lists current medications (except medication not on formulary), glasses, contacts, medical equipment, seasonal clothing and one set of clothes for jury trial as permitted drop-off categories. The county FAQ says medications must be in original packaging. These rules do not mean every medication will automatically be accepted or administered; call the facility for time-sensitive medical information rather than mailing medication without instructions.
Release and Court Notifications: ND SAVIN / VINE
North Dakota SAVIN uses VINE to provide free and confidential status notifications concerning incarceration, parole/probation, criminal court cases and protection/restraining orders. Registration can be made through VINE or by phone at 1-866-631-8463.
Use notifications as an alerting tool, not as the only source for a safety-sensitive release decision. If timing matters for personal safety or transportation, verify the person’s actual custody status with the facility.
When to Stop Searching the Grand Forks County Roster
North Dakota DOCR
DOCR says its Resident Lookup shows people currently incarcerated in a North Dakota correctional facility, with stated limits for some people housed out of state or serving another state’s sentence.
Open Resident Lookup →Federal Bureau of Prisons
Use the BOP locator for federal inmates. BOP cautions that release dates can change as sentences and credits are recalculated.
Open BOP Locator →ICE detainee locator
The 2025 state inspection documents an ICE housing agreement at GFCCC. For immigration detention, use ICE’s locator rather than treating the county criminal roster as a complete immigration case record.
Open ICE Locator →GFCCC also has documented housing agreements involving Walsh and Traill counties. If the jail confirms another county is responsible for the case, use that county’s official court and records sources rather than randomly checking multiple unrelated rosters.
PREA and Safety Reporting
Grand Forks County’s PREA page accepts third-party reports concerning sexual abuse or sexual harassment involving a person incarcerated at GFCCC. The official page also lists the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office at 701-780-8280 and Grand Forks Police at 701-787-8000 as reporting routes.
Because an older county PREA page still displays former administrator/contact information, use the live PREA page or call the Sheriff’s Office for the current coordinator rather than relying on a cached staff name. For an immediate emergency, use emergency services.

Use Jail and Mugshot Information Responsibly
- An arrest is not a conviction.
- A booking charge is not the final court disposition.
- A mugshot is not proof of guilt.
- A warrant does not prove current incarceration.
- A scheduled release date is not confirmation that release happened.
- A bail value does not prove the person is currently eligible for release.
- A saved roster PDF or screenshot can become stale.
- Do not use public custody information for harassment, threats, stalking or intimidation.
- Use the court record to understand the legal outcome of a case.
Grand Forks Jail Roster FAQs
Where is the official Grand Forks jail roster?
Use the Grand Forks County Corrections “Latest Roster” PDF. It is the county’s official public roster route for people currently listed in the correctional center. Because a PDF can be cached, check the report-generated date shown in the document and call the jail at 701-780-8224 when custody changed very recently.
Does the Grand Forks jail roster show mugshots?
The official roster format includes a BioPhotos/Mug-Shot field. A booking photo is an identification image tied to a custody record; it is not proof of guilt or a final court outcome.
What information can appear on the Grand Forks County roster?
The official roster format includes the person’s name, date of birth, scheduled release date when supplied, mugshot field, bail amount and bail type when supplied, and listed charges. Not every field is populated for every person.
Why can someone be missing from the Grand Forks jail roster?
A no-result can have several causes: spelling or name variation, a booking or release that is newer than the public report, transfer to another agency, state or federal custody, a court case without current incarceration, or a restricted record. Verify time-sensitive custody directly with GFCCC instead of assuming the person was released.
Is Grand Forks Municipal Court the same as Grand Forks County District Court?
No. Grand Forks Municipal Court handles city and park-district ordinance matters within its jurisdiction, while Grand Forks County District Court is part of the Northeast Central Judicial District. Use the court named on the case rather than choosing a court from the jail address.
How do I verify bail for someone at GFCCC?
Start with the roster for any displayed bail information, then call GFCCC at 701-780-8224 before paying. Grand Forks County allows cash bail through the jail-lobby kiosk and credit-card bail for eligible people physically incarcerated at GFCCC, including its designated online payment processor. Bond eligibility and amounts can change after court action.
How do I schedule a Grand Forks County jail visit?
Grand Forks County uses video visitation. Visitors must register and receive approval, which the county says may take up to 24 hours. Onsite visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance through HomeWAV and are limited to 20 minutes.
How can I add money for commissary or phone and messaging time?
The current Grand Forks County Sheriff corrections FAQ directs users to TurnKey/Inmate Canteen for inmate-account deposits used for commissary or phone and messaging time. Check the live provider page and inmate identity before submitting money.
How do I check a Grand Forks criminal case after a booking?
Use North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry for public case information, then contact the appropriate clerk if you need help interpreting the record or an official court record. The court system warns that name searches can match more than one person and that online records are not the certified official court record.
What should I use after a transfer from the county jail?
Use North Dakota DOCR Resident Lookup for a person who may be in a North Dakota state correctional facility, the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator for federal prison custody, and the ICE Online Detainee Locator System when immigration detention is the issue. Grand Forks County’s 2025 state inspection also documents housing agreements with several state, federal and neighboring-county agencies, so physical custody and case jurisdiction can differ.
