Bond Usually Follows the Magistrate Process
The Sheriff says an inmate can typically bond after seeing a magistrate. Initial Appearance hearings are conducted at least twice daily and sometimes more often; the Sheriff’s livestream page says hearings may occur up to three times daily as needed.

Two basic routes after bond is set

SmartInmate Visits Require Approval and Advance Scheduling
The Sheriff’s current FAQ lists public visitation from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with the final visit beginning no later than 9:30 p.m.. The May 2025 inmate handbook describes video visitation seven days a week and says no visit may be scheduled or checked in after 9:30 p.m.
- Create a SmartInmate public-user account. Use an active phone number or email address so you can receive the activation code.
- Send a connection request. The inmate must accept the request.
- Submit visitor identity materials. Upload a valid photo ID and a recent photograph for comparison.
- Wait for facility approval. The Sheriff says approval is typically completed within 24 hours.
- Schedule at least 24 hours ahead. Visits must be completed one day in advance.

Visitors over 17 must have accepted government photo identification. The Sheriff allows one adult visitor with up to two adequately supervised children. Lockers require a solid quarter. Phones, purses, backpacks, food, drinks, pens and bags are not allowed in the visitation rooms.

The May 2025 handbook says eligible inmates generally have commissary access Monday through Friday unless conditions require a schedule change. Purchases are deducted from the trust account.
Property Release Requires Inmate Authorization
For a current inmate’s property, go to the Detention Center bond window with valid photo identification. The inmate reviews the presented ID and must authorize the release. The Sheriff says valuable-bag property is generally released on an all-or-nothing basis.
When a person is transferred to TDCJ, the inmate can designate one person to collect property left behind. That person receives mailed instructions and a deadline; unclaimed property can be discarded or donated after the allotted time.
Jail card
A former inmate can request their own jail card from the Detention Center Records Department. Requesting another person’s jail card requires an open-records request. Detention Records: 806-775-7015.
Medical, Mental-Health and Outside Medication Procedures
The current inmate handbook lists medical, dental, mental-health and suicide-screening services. Routine medical or mental-health requests are submitted from the inmate tablet; emergencies should be reported directly to a housing officer so medical staff can assess the situation.

Family-provided prescription medication

The inmate must request personal medication at release; unclaimed medication is kept for 30 days and then destroyed under the handbook.
