Mille Lacs County Jail Roster: Match the Current Booking Before You Act

Mille Lacs County Sheriff provides an official In-Custody Report for people currently listed at the county jail in Milaca. The live search accepts last name, first name, gender and birth year and can display identity, image, bail/fine, custody, booking-status, court-date and case information when available.

Use the roster for a current county-custody question. Use the court, warrant list, Sheriff data-request process, Minnesota DOC or federal locator for the separate question that comes next.

Choose the official system that answers your question

The jail roster is a custody tool. It should not be used as a substitute for a warrant check, court record, certified disposition, Sheriff report or state/federal corrections search.

Mugshots and booking photos

The official locator includes a “Click to View Image” function. Use a displayed booking image only as one identity clue alongside the name, birth year, physical description and case/custody information.

If an image is unavailable or you need a specific existing Sheriff-held booking photograph for a legitimate records purpose, use the county’s Data Requests process. Do not replace the current official record with an old third-party mugshot page.

Use the Mille Lacs County warrant list for warrant questions

Mille Lacs County publishes a separate online Warrant List. Use it when the question is whether the county lists a warrant rather than whether the person is currently housed in the jail.

Roster result

Helps answer whether a person appears in current county-jail custody and shows the custody details exposed by the live inmate locator.

Warrant result

Addresses a separate legal-status question. A warrant can exist when a person is not in jail, and a current inmate can have custody for reasons other than a displayed county warrant.

Do not attempt to detain, confront or locate a person because of a warrant-list result. Use the responsible law-enforcement or court contact for verification.

Bail, first appearance and release

Mille Lacs County states that an inmate is seen at 11 a.m. for the first court appearance Monday through Friday except county-recognized holidays, and that a bail amount is set at that appearance.

Cash bail

The county says bail may be paid in cash and that the exact amount should be brought to the Jail 24-hour door. Confirm the current amount immediately before arriving.

Bail bond agent

The county also permits bail to be supplied through a bail-bonds agent. Verify that the bond is permitted in the specific case and review the agent’s contract before paying a nonrefundable premium or providing collateral.

Before paying, confirm all of these

  • The person is still in Mille Lacs County custody.
  • The first appearance has occurred when applicable.
  • The current bail amount and type have not changed.
  • The correct court and case number are identified.
  • No additional warrant, detainer, probation matter or other hold blocks release.
  • The payment location and method are currently accepted.
  • You understand that payment does not guarantee immediate physical release.
Pickup planning: ask whether release processing is complete before driving to Milaca. A bail receipt or court order can precede actual release from the building.

Check the Mille Lacs County court separately from the jail

Mille Lacs County District Court is part of Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District. The courthouse is at 225 6th Avenue SE, Milaca, MN 56353; Court Administration is 320-362-3200. Current office hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Public court calendar

The court calendar is posted at 7:00 a.m. each business day and updated hourly. It does not contain every matter, and absence from the public calendar does not prove that an appearance was cancelled or rescheduled.

Pending criminal case search

MCRO does not return a pending criminal case when searching by the defendant’s name before a conviction is entered. For a pending case, use a case number, citation number, attorney name or attorney bar number.

MCRO does not provide certified documents and is not Minnesota’s background-check system. Contact Court Administration when you need a certified record or case-specific court confirmation.

Professional visits can be in person or through Securus. The county lists approved professional hours of 8:00–10:30 a.m., 12:30–4:00 p.m. and 6:30–9:00 p.m.; visits outside those hours need prior Jail Administrator approval.

Phone calls, tablets and electronic messages

Mille Lacs County uses Securus Technologies as the primary inmate-communication provider. The jail also issues each inmate a tablet during intake for phone calls, video visitation, law-library access and program content.

Current county-published communication rules

Mail, canteen and inmate-account deposits

Traditional mail

Mille Lacs County Jail
[Inmate’s full name]
640 3rd Street SE
Milaca, MN 56353
  • Mail must go through the postal system; ordinary inmate mail cannot be hand-delivered.
  • Personal letters, except professional letters, are scanned for the inmate to read digitally; originals go into the inmate’s personal belongings.
  • Photos are permitted when appropriate, but Polaroid photographs are not allowed.
  • Pornographic material is not allowed.
  • Books and magazines may not be mailed to inmates; the jail provides library access.
  • Disallowed mailed items are placed with personal belongings for release rather than delivered to the inmate.

Money and canteen

Lobby kiosks

TW Vending kiosks are located in the Sheriff’s Office lobby and the Jail 24-hour lobby. The county says both accept cash or credit card for inmate-account deposits.

Online deposits

The county links to Inmate Canteen for online deposits. Verify the correct inmate and current transaction fees before payment.

The county also states that money mailed for an inmate must be cash or a money order. Because cash sent by mail has limited payment protection, verify the current rule before mailing funds.

Vending is available daily, while inmates currently have an opportunity to purchase canteen items on Mondays and Fridays.

Do not confuse canteen money with bail. An inmate-account deposit is for approved jail purchases and phone time; it does not satisfy a court-ordered bail amount.

Request a booking record or mugshot through the county data process

Mille Lacs County says public data requests must go directly to the department that maintains the requested record. For Sheriff-held jail or booking data, the County Sheriff is the responsible authority and the Chief Deputy is the listed designee.

Inspect data

The county’s public-data form says members of the public may inspect public data free of charge before deciding whether they need copies.

Request copies

Copy charges may apply. The county’s current form states that when the fee for fulfilling a request is greater than $5, prepayment is required.

You generally do not have to identify yourself or explain why you want public data, although contact information may be necessary to clarify the request or deliver copies.

Write the request narrowly

Identify the full legal name, approximate booking or incident date, and the exact existing record you want—for example a booking photograph, booking record or incident report. Ask for a fee estimate before authorizing a large copy request.

Some government data are private, confidential or otherwise restricted by law. The county is not required to create a custom background report or new record that it does not maintain.

2026 Minnesota DOC inspection: current facility context

The Minnesota Department of Corrections inspected Mille Lacs County Jail on June 3, 2026. The current report lists authority to operate from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, with 120 approved secure coed beds and an operational-capacity calculation of 102 beds at 85%.

Key 2026 Minnesota DOC inspection figures
Inspection item Current report How to read it
Mandatory rules123 of 126 compliant; 97.62%Three mandatory-rule items were listed as noncompliant in the report.
Essential rules100 of 100 compliant; 100%The report lists full compliance for applicable essential rules at inspection.
Approved capacity120 secure coed bedsRegulatory approved capacity, not the current inmate population.
Operational capacity102 beds at 85%DOC’s operational-capacity calculation, not a live roster count.
Inspection scheduleAnnualThe report says the facility remains on an annual inspection schedule.

The report also documents continuing physical-plant constraints in intake, limited space for storage and services, and a jail-management-system interface problem observed during inspection. The report says county staff were working on those issues. These are facility-oversight findings, not claims about a particular inmate or a current emergency.

Facility and service details that are easy to confuse

Two housing units

The county describes the jail as licensed for up to 120 adult male and female sentenced and pretrial inmates in two housing units, with intake space for five additional people.

Separate entrances and tasks

The Sheriff’s west-side lobby, the Jail 24-hour east-side lobby and the courthouse serve different purposes. Confirm the correct entrance before making a special trip for bail, fingerprints, records or another service.

Public fingerprinting

The jail offers civilian fingerprinting Thursday 7–9 p.m., Friday 2–4 p.m. and Sunday 2–4 p.m. at the Jail 24-hour lobby. The county lists a $20 fee, exact cash only at the lobby kiosk.

When Mille Lacs County is not the right custody system

Minnesota VINE

Minnesota DOC identifies VINE as the notification system for county-jail releases. Use VINELink for supported county-custody notifications; do not rely on an automated notification service as your only safety plan.

Minnesota DOC / Haven

Use the Minnesota DOC individual search for people committed to the Commissioner of Corrections who remain under DOC jurisdiction. Minnesota Haven is the DOC notification system for state-corrections custody and release changes.

Federal custody

Use the BOP Inmate Locator for established federal prison custody. A newly arrested federal defendant may be held in a local or contract jail before entering a BOP facility, so the federal case or agency may be more useful early in the process.

Use booking and mugshot information responsibly

  • An arrest is not a conviction.
  • A booking image is an identity record, not a verdict.
  • A charge or bail amount can change after court action.
  • A warrant does not prove current incarceration.
  • An old screenshot should not be treated as current custody.
  • Use Minnesota court records for legal outcomes and certified court records when certification matters.
  • Do not use public jail information to harass, threaten, stalk or shame a person.
  • Do not publish unnecessary victim, child, witness, medical or private family information.

Mille Lacs County jail roster FAQs
