Minneapolis Jail Roster: Use the Hennepin County Sheriff Roster for Downtown Jail Custody
For a Minneapolis jail roster search, the City of Minneapolis directs users to Hennepin County jail resources. The downtown Hennepin County Jail—also called the Adult Detention Center—is operated by the Hennepin County Sheriff and occupies space in the Public Safety Facility and Minneapolis City Hall.
Quick Answer: How to Find Someone in Jail in Minneapolis
Start with the Hennepin County Sheriff jail roster
The Sheriff says its official jail roster is updated hourly. It lists people currently in the county jail and people released during the previous 7 days, together with available charges, bail and scheduled court dates.
If the result affects bail, pickup, medication, property or another immediate decision, confirm the current status with the jail at 612-348-5112.
Use the court for the legal case
The roster is a custody source, not the final legal record. Hennepin County District Court handles Minneapolis criminal cases, and Minnesota Court Records Online (MCRO) provides public online access subject to important limits.
Pre-conviction criminal, traffic and petty-misdemeanor information is not available online in the same way as post-conviction information. For pre-conviction Minneapolis criminal case information, the court directs users to the courthouse or 612-348-6000.
Minneapolis Has More Than One Hennepin County Corrections Route
A missing downtown-jail result does not automatically mean the person is not in a Hennepin County correctional setting. The Sheriff’s downtown jail and the county Adult Corrections Facility are different systems with different purposes.
Also called the Adult Detention Center. Operated by the Hennepin County Sheriff. Used primarily for adults held before trial and other jail custody. Search the Sheriff roster.
A separate Hennepin County Community Corrections facility used for court-ordered corrections/sentences and programs. It is not the downtown Sheriff jail. The City of Minneapolis separately links users to the ACF roster.
State prison and qualifying supervision records belong to the Minnesota Department of Corrections, not the Minneapolis/Hennepin county-jail roster.

How to Search the Minneapolis / Hennepin County Jail Roster
Start at the Sheriff’s roster page
Use the Hennepin County Sheriff roster rather than a private mugshot or arrest-directory page. The City of Minneapolis itself routes jail-roster users to Hennepin County jail resources.
Search the person’s legal name
Use the most accurate first and last name you have. If the result is ambiguous, compare additional details in the booking entry rather than assuming a same-name record belongs to the person you are seeking.
Read charges, bail and court date as separate fields
The Sheriff says the roster can display charges, bail and scheduled court dates. These fields answer different questions: the charge is an allegation, bail concerns release conditions, and the court date belongs to the judicial process.
Use the recent-release window when appropriate
The Sheriff’s current public description says the roster includes people released in the last 7 days. If the person recently left custody, check the release record before assuming the name should still appear as an active inmate.
Call when the roster is not enough
For bail, a very recent booking, pickup or another time-sensitive question, call 612-348-5112. Do not rely on a cached roster screenshot.
What a Hennepin Jail Roster Result Means
Name / custody listing
Shows that the Sheriff’s public roster associates the person with current or very recent Hennepin County jail custody. Confirm identity before acting on a same-name result.
Charge
A charge is an accusation connected with the booking/case. It is not a conviction and may change as the case moves through court.
Bail
The displayed bail information is a starting point for verification. Confirm the exact current amount and case/warrant before bringing money to the jail.
Scheduled court date
The roster can point you toward the next court event, but the Minnesota Judicial Branch controls the official court calendar and case record.
Release information
A recent release record tells you the jail recorded a release. It does not explain every ongoing court obligation, probation condition or later custody event.
Arresting agency vs custodian
Minneapolis Police may make an arrest while the Hennepin County Sheriff operates the jail. The arresting agency and current custodian are different roles.
If You Cannot Find the Person on the Minneapolis Jail Roster
Minneapolis Mugshots and Booking Photos
The City of Minneapolis gives a clear answer that many third-party search pages get wrong: the Minneapolis Police Department does not release booking photos. The City says Hennepin County has booking photos, but the photos are not online.
To ask about a booking photo
The City instructs users to contact the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility at 612-348-5112. Do not assume that a third-party image is current, complete or the official county record.
Need an arrest record instead?
Minneapolis Police accepts requests for public adult arrest records. MPD says the request requires the arrested person’s full name and date of birth. MPD arrest records do not include court dispositions, juvenile arrest information or information owned by other agencies.
Bail, Bond and Hennepin County Warrants
Posting bail at the jail
The Sheriff accepts cash bail or bond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility, 401 South 4th Avenue.
- Have the case or warrant number.
- Bring the exact bail amount in cash.
- The jail does not make change.
- There is no cash machine on site.
- The jail does not accept checks, debit cards or credit cards for cash bail.
Bond and scam warning
For a bond, contact a bonding agency; the jail does not provide bonding-company referrals or set up the transaction. The Sheriff also warns that scammers target families of people in custody and says HCSO will never call demanding payment.
If a payment request seems suspicious, end the call and independently contact the jail at 612-348-5112.
Warrant route
For Hennepin County warrant questions, the Sheriff lists the Warrants Office at 612-348-2000. The Sheriff says a person who wants to turn themselves in can go to the Public Safety Facility at 401 South 4th Avenue.
The Minnesota Judicial Branch also operates a Hennepin County District Court Warrant Helpline at 612-540-6485. Court guidance notes that a person who appears at the Public Safety Facility with a warrant may or may not be taken into custody; if taken into custody, the case is placed on the next-business-day calendar for an arraignment/bail hearing.
Hennepin County Criminal Court Records for Minneapolis Cases
Hennepin County Criminal Court handles all felony charges issued in Hennepin County and the misdemeanor/gross-misdemeanor criminal and traffic charges issued in Minneapolis. The main Criminal Court contact is at 300 South 6th Street, C-11, Minneapolis, MN 55487, phone 612-348-6000, Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
Online MCRO has a major pre-conviction limit
The court says online records do not include information on pre-conviction criminal, traffic and petty-misdemeanor cases. For pre-conviction criminal information, use the courthouse or call Hennepin Criminal Court at 612-348-6000.
Court record copies
The Hennepin Records Center has public-access terminals Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. Plain copies can be printed free at courthouse locations; a certified court document copy is currently listed at $14.
Downtown Criminal Court uses both the Hennepin County Government Center and the Public Safety Facility. This is another reason not to assume the jail address and the court-record address are interchangeable.
Hennepin County Jail Visiting Rules
Public visiting is conducted by video. On-site video visits are free and take place in the Public Safety Facility at 401 South 4th Avenue, second floor, Room 235.
Current on-site hours — 7 days a week
- 7:00 AM–11:30 AM
- 2:30 PM–5:30 PM
- 7:30 PM–9:30 PM
Sessions are 20 minutes. A detainee may have visitors once a day and up to three times a week.
Before the visit
- Create a Securus Friends & Family visitor profile.
- Request access and wait for detention staff approval.
- Schedule an on-site visit at least 24 hours in advance.
- Arrive at least 10 minutes early.
- Be prepared to show accepted photo identification.
- Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult; no more than three under-18 visitors are allowed.
The Sheriff warns that detainees may be unavailable because of court, lockdowns, emergencies or security concerns. A scheduled visiting window does not guarantee that every detainee will be available at that moment.
Sending Money to Someone in Hennepin County Jail
The Sheriff provides three routes: in-person deposit, online deposit through Access Corrections, and U.S. mail.
Public Safety Facility
401 South 4th Avenue
Cash deposit machine in the front lobby, available 24/7. You need the exact spelling of the detainee’s name and the person’s PAK identification number.
Minneapolis City Hall
350 South 5th Street
Cash deposit machine in the public visiting area, Monday–Friday 7 AM–5 PM. Name and PAK are required.
Online / mail
For online deposits, choose Hennepin County Adult Detention Center in Downtown Minneapolis in Access Corrections; provider fees apply.
By U.S. mail, the Sheriff says cash or a money order payable to the inmate can be mailed to 401 S. 4th Ave., Suite 100, Minneapolis, MN 55415 and may be held for verification.
Phone Calls, Mail and Packages
Phone calls
Friends and family can receive calls from detainees, but cannot call directly into the jail and be connected to a detainee. For blocked calls, collect-call billing or reception problems, the Sheriff directs users to Correctional Billing Services.
Mailing address
[Detainee’s full name]
Hennepin County Public Safety Facility
401 South 4th Avenue
Minneapolis, MN 55415
Packages must come directly from a publisher, mail-order bookseller, attorney or court official, unless a private-party package contains a specific necessary item required for court or release, such as clothing.
Property, Money Pickup, Health Services and PREA
Property room
Property service is at the Public Safety Facility, 401 South 4th Avenue, 7 days a week from 7–10 AM and 7–10 PM. The person picking up property must be at least 18 and have current state or federal photo ID.
The detainee must complete and sign a release form. The Sheriff says the only property you may bring in is one set of clothing suitable for a detainee’s felony trial.
Health and sexual-safety concerns
The Sheriff says Jail Health Services and medical care are available 24/7 for people housed in the jail. The public page does not publish a general family medication-drop procedure, so call 612-348-5112 before bringing medication or medical items.
For an immediate threat of sexual assault in the jail, the Sheriff instructs users to call 612-348-8318 or 911. HCSO states a zero-tolerance policy for sexual assault and sexual harassment.
Minneapolis Police Records vs Hennepin Sheriff Records
Use the agency that actually created or maintains the record. Minneapolis Police arrest/report data and Hennepin Sheriff jail data are not the same record set.
MPD adult arrest record
Minneapolis Police says an adult arrest-record request requires the person’s full name and date of birth. MPD’s public arrest record does not include court dispositions, juvenile arrest information or information from other agencies.
HCSO data request
Hennepin County Sheriff accepts requests through the county data-request portal. Public data may be inspected for free; copies or extensive compilation can involve charges.
The Sheriff’s Data Practices Office lists 612-543-3515 and sheriffsofficedatare@hennepin.us.
Large data requests
The Sheriff says if a request is expected to exceed $50, the requester is notified. You can then choose to pay for the data, view it at no charge, or cancel. The final cost can differ from the initial estimate.
After the Downtown Jail: ACF, Minnesota VINE, DOC and Federal Custody
Adult Corrections Facility
Hennepin County’s ACF is a separate Community Corrections facility in Plymouth. It should be checked when the person is serving a local court-ordered sentence/program rather than being held in the downtown Sheriff jail.
Hennepin County Jail Roster Guide explains the county-level custody split in more detail.
Minnesota VINE vs Minnesota Haven
Minnesota VINE: 1-877-664-8463 provides county-jail custody/release notification. Minnesota DOC uses Haven for people sentenced to DOC custody/supervision. Use the notification system that matches the custodian.
Minnesota DOC / federal
The Minnesota DOC Individual Search covers public information about people committed to the Commissioner of Corrections who remain under DOC jurisdiction. For federal custody, use the BOP Inmate Locator.
