Nez Perce County Jail Roster: Check Current Custody and 24-Hour Booking Reports
Use the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s official In Custody page for adults held at the Adult Detention Center in Lewiston. The county says its public inmate database is updated every 24 hours, while its Arrested and Booked report covers a 24-hour period. Because the public reports can lag, the Sheriff specifically says current status should be confirmed in person or by calling the Detention Center.
Quick answer: current roster and daily bookings are two different questions
The Sheriff’s In Custody List is for people currently shown as housed at the Nez Perce County Adult Detention Center for criminal offenses. The same official page says the Arrested and Booked report covers a 24-hour period each day.
The reports are not real-time feeds. Nez Perce County says reports are updated Monday through Thursday, weekend and holiday information is included on Monday reports, and the public custody database updates every 24 hours. For a same-day arrest, bond, release or transfer, call 208-799-3132.
Nez Perce County Publishes Current Custody and 24-Hour Booking Information
Update timing matters: the county says reports are updated Monday through Thursday; weekends and holidays are included on Monday reports. The public inmate database itself is updated every 24 hours, so a new arrest, bond release or transfer may happen before the web report catches up.
Use the Official Source That Matches Your Question
How to Search the Nez Perce County Jail Roster
Start with the Sheriff’s In Custody page
Use the Nez Perce County government site rather than a commercial inmate directory. The county’s own page explains both current custody and the reporting schedule.
Search the legal name carefully
Compare the full legal name and any available identifier. If a name is missing, consider a former surname, maiden name, hyphenation, suffix or spelling difference before concluding the person was not booked.
Use the recent booking report for a new arrest
The Sheriff describes its Arrested and Booked report as a 24-hour report. Use that recent-booking route when the question is “Was this person booked recently?” rather than “Are they still in jail?”
Remember the 24-hour database cycle
The online custody database is updated every 24 hours, not continuously. A person can be booked, released or transferred before the web report changes.
Move legal questions to Idaho iCourt
A custody listing is not the full criminal case. Use iCourt for hearings, case events and available bond information, then contact Nez Perce County District Court when an exact hearing or legal deadline matters.
Call before taking a time-sensitive action
For bond payment, release pickup, travel, a remote visit, legal mail or a recent transfer, confirm current custody through the Detention Center at 208-799-3132.
What Happens During Booking
The county’s Idaho Jails Orientation Handbook explains that a newly arrested person goes through intake before entering the general jail population. Intake can include a contraband search, medical screening, booking paperwork and classification.
Once the person can complete booking, personal information and charges are entered, bail is calculated and a court date is set when possible. The person is photographed and fingerprinted. Someone who is intoxicated, combative, suicidal, medically ill or otherwise unsafe may be kept in a secure holding cell until booking paperwork can be completed.
Booking date is not conviction date. The booking process documents custody and allegations. The court record determines whether charges are amended, dismissed, resolved by plea or tried.
If the Person Is Not on the Nez Perce County Roster
| Problem | Possible explanation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Arrest happened today | Transport or booking may still be underway, and the public database updates every 24 hours. | Check the 24-hour booking report context and call 208-799-3132 for current status. |
| Name is missing | A legal-name variation or spelling difference may be in the record. | Try reasonable name variants and use a booking or Name Number if known. |
| It is a weekend or holiday | The Sheriff says weekend and holiday report information is included on Monday reports. | Call the Detention Center instead of waiting for the web report when timing matters. |
| Court case exists, roster is blank | A criminal case does not prove current incarceration. | Use Idaho iCourt to check the case and hearing history. |
| Person was recently released | The web list may not reflect a status change immediately. | Confirm release directly before arranging pickup or making another payment. |
| State custody | The person may have moved to Idaho Department of Correction custody or supervision. | Use IDOC Resident/Client Search; IDOC says its database updates daily but can still lag. |
| Juvenile matter | The adult In Custody list excludes juvenile offenders. | Use the Region II Juvenile Detention Center/juvenile court route instead of the adult roster. |
Use Idaho iCourt for the Criminal Case Behind the Booking
Nez Perce County is part of Idaho’s Second Judicial District. The District Court is on the second floor of the Nez Perce County Courthouse at 1230 Main Street in Lewiston.
Lewiston, ID 83501
208-799-3040
Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Use iCourt for available District and Magistrate case information, hearings, bond information and case events. Search by case/record number or available party-search options.
Felony and misdemeanor routing
Nez Perce County’s Prosecutor explains that an arrested felony defendant first appears before a magistrate judge. Misdemeanor defendants also receive an arraignment/initial appearance where the court addresses the charge, rights and any bond already set or requested.
For a final disposition, rely on the court case rather than the jail booking report.
Bond and Release: Verify the Court Order Before Paying
The booking process can include calculation of bail and a court date when possible, but a roster or booking report is not a payment instruction. Nez Perce County’s criminal-court page directs users to its bond-information brochure, while Idaho’s bail rules place release decisions under the court process.
- Confirm the person remains in custody.
- Get the correct court case number when available.
- Confirm the current bond amount and type.
- Ask whether multiple charges have separate bonds.
- Ask whether another warrant, probation/parole matter or outside hold blocks release.
- Verify where payment should be made at that time.
- Do not assume bond payment means immediate physical release.
- Confirm the person has actually been released before arranging pickup.
For case-specific bond information, use iCourt and Nez Perce County District Court at 208-799-3040. For physical custody/release confirmation, call the Detention Center at 208-799-3132.
Nez Perce County Does Not Provide General Warrant Information to the Public
The Sheriff’s current Most Wanted and Warrants page states that the office does not give warrant information to the general public. It also warns that warrant information displayed for law-enforcement purposes should not be used to make an arrest and directs law enforcement to verify that a warrant remains active.
This means a jail-roster search should not be presented as a public warrant-search substitute. A warrant and current jail custody are different questions.
Friends and Family Visits Are Remote Video Visits
Nez Perce County says it no longer facilitates onsite friends-and-family visitation at the Adult Detention Center. Remote visits are scheduled through InmateSales, and the facility appears in the provider search as “NEZ PERCE ID.”
- Remote video visitation is available seven days a week.
- The county publishes an inmate video-visitation window of 8:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.
- Visitors schedule through their InmateSales account or app.
- Detention staff do not arrange visit scheduling.
- Confirm current custody before funding or scheduling a commercial-provider account.
Commissary Deposits Require the Inmate’s Name Number
The Sheriff’s official commissary page directs deposits through Smart Deposit. Before paying, obtain the inmate’s exact name and Name Number.
- Confirm the person is still held at Nez Perce County.
- Use the exact Name Number.
- Verify the recipient before submitting payment.
- Review the provider’s displayed fee and limits.
- Save the receipt/confirmation.
Do not assume a commissary deposit can pay court bond or remote-visitation charges.
Nez Perce County Changed Inmate Mail for 2026
The Sheriff says the new mail system took effect November 1, 2025, and mail received at other addresses after January 1, 2026 is rejected. Ordinary friends-and-family mail is processed off site and scanned by TextBehind.

Important current mail rules
- All incoming mail must include the inmate’s name and inmate ID.
- A return address is required.
- Mail must be no larger than 8.5 × 11 inches and thin enough for a sheet-fed scanner.
- Packages, books, cash, checks and other currency are prohibited in ordinary correspondence.
- Stamps, blank envelopes and stationery are prohibited.
- Pictures are the only permitted enclosures; the county currently allows up to 10 photographs per package when printed on photo paper.
- Internet printouts, colored pages and prohibited provocative material are not accepted.
- After ordinary mail is scanned to the inmate, the physical mail is destroyed.
Legal-mail routing matters: privileged legal mail should not be sent to the Kentucky scanning address. Use the current Lewiston legal-mail route and recheck the Sheriff page before mailing an original document.
How to Request a Nez Perce County Sheriff Record
The Sheriff’s Records Division handles law-enforcement incident-report requests. The office currently lists hours of Tuesday through Friday, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., phone 208-799-3137, and email PRRSheriff@co.nezperce.id.us.
The county says an incident-report request begins with a records-request form and is forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for review and approval. It says there is usually about a three-business-day wait for that process.
Requests can be delivered in person or sent by mail, email or fax; released reports can be mailed, emailed, picked up or faxed.
Focused request tip: provide the full legal name, approximate incident/booking date, law-enforcement agency, incident or case number if known, and the exact existing record you want. Do not ask the Sheriff to create an analysis that does not already exist.
PREA and Third-Party Safety Reporting
The Adult Detention Center publishes a zero-tolerance policy for sexual abuse and sexual harassment. Reports may be made by a victim, anonymously or by a third party.
- Call Detention Administration at 208-799-3139 and ask to speak with a supervisor.
- For an outside anonymous reporting route, the county identifies the Latah County Sheriff’s Office at 208-883-5705.
- Written complaints may be addressed to the Nez Perce County Sheriff at 1150 Wall Street, Lewiston, ID 83501.
For an immediate life-safety emergency, call 911 rather than relying on an ordinary records or correspondence channel.
The Adult Roster Does Not Include Juvenile Offenders
The Sheriff expressly says its adult In Custody list does not include juvenile offenders. Nez Perce County separately operates the Region II Juvenile Detention Center at 140 10th Street in Lewiston.
The county describes that juvenile facility as a secure 16-bed institution for youth under 18 who are lawfully arrested, held by contract or placed there by court order. Juvenile information is subject to different access rules, so do not expect an adult jail search to return a youth record.
When Nez Perce County Jail Is No Longer the Right Search
Use IDOC Resident/Client Search when the person may have moved into state prison custody or is under IDOC supervision. IDOC says the database is updated daily but can still lag behind rapid changes.
Nez Perce County’s Prosecutor identifies Idaho VINE as a 24-hour custody-status and notification service and lists 1-866-9-VINE-ID for offender-status information and alerts.
Use BOP only when a confirmed federal sentence or BOP placement applies. A federal case alone does not prove the person is in BOP prison custody.

- Do not expose protected juvenile, victim or medical information.
