Important: a nonzero Total Bond beside Bondable NO is not an instruction to pay. Another hold, sentence or court restriction may control release.
Why Someone May Be Missing From the Roster
- The arrest may still be in police pre-booking.
- The jail may still be completing medical screening and intake.
- The person may be listed under another legal or former name.
- The person may already have been released.
- The person may be at Geiger or supervised through EHM.
- Another county, city, tribal, state, federal or immigration agency may have custody.
Timing reality: police pre-booking can take up to four hours. Spokane County says jail intake commonly takes another four to six hours.

What Happens Between Arrest and the Roster
Police Pre-Booking
Reports, interviews, identification and any required DUI testing may be completed before the person reaches the county jail.
Immediate Medical Screening
Staff check for health conditions that need immediate treatment and may call a nurse for additional assessment.
Search, Photograph and Fingerprints
The person is searched for contraband, photographed, fingerprinted and entered into the jail system.
Charges, Bail and Court Information
Charges are recorded, bail is calculated and a court date is set during booking.
Release or Classification
Some people may be released on recognizance or post bail. Others complete a classification interview for housing.
Intoxication hold: the county says intoxicated inmates may be held for up to 12 hours, and sometimes longer, until safe release is possible.

Why Staff Will Not Give an Exact Release Time
After a court orders release, the jail must receive and complete all paperwork. Staff cannot disclose the date and time of release for someone who is still in custody and cannot take messages.
The inmate may make a telephone call after release. Arrange a flexible pickup plan and backup meeting location instead of relying on an estimated time.

How Spokane County Video Visitation Works
- Create a Securus Video Connect account.
- Use the account holder’s photo identification.
- Provide an email address and telephone number.
- Allow approximately 24 hours for review, excluding weekends and holidays.
- Use a compatible computer, phone or tablet.
- Use the free visitation booths in the jail lobby when appropriate.

- Assume family and friend visits are recorded and monitored.

Current webpage controls: ordinary personal mail is letters only. Greeting cards, greeting-card envelopes and postcards are not accepted, even though older policy text still discusses card formats.
What Happens to the Original Letter
Non-confidential incoming mail is photocopied in black and white. The copy is delivered to the inmate, and the original is placed in the inmate’s property.
Photo Rules
Photos are accepted only when sent through an approved third-party vendor such as a recognized photo-printing retailer. Photos mailed directly by a private sender are rejected.
Books and Publications
- Books must be paperback.
- Hardback books are prohibited.
- Publications must come directly from a publisher, bookstore or bona fide retailer.
- No more than five books may be sent at one time.
Legal Mail
Legal mail should be clearly marked “Legal Mail,” “Attorney/Client” or a similar designation and show an identifiable qualifying legal sender. It is opened and inspected in the inmate’s presence for contraband.

How to Pick Up Inmate Property
- The inmate must submit a property-release request.
- The request must name the person authorized to pick up the property.
- The request must be approved before pickup.
- In-custody property release must occur within seven days of booking.
- The approved person must bring photo identification.
- Staff may need time to retrieve the property.
All-property rule: the inmate cannot release only selected items such as keys or a cellphone. The release covers all personal property.

Property After Release or Transfer
The county says out-of-custody property is not stored beyond 30 days. When someone transfers to prison, shuttle or another law-enforcement agency, pickup instructions may be sent by email or text for a jail-lobby locker.

Medical and Mental-Health Help
Spokane County provides emergency, acute and basic medical and mental-health care through county and contracted health professionals.

- Provide copies of current prescriptions or medical records when requested.
- Ask that the information be forwarded to medical or mental-health staff.

Outside medication is not administered: privately supplied medication may help staff verify the prescriber, medication and dosage, but medication ordered by the Detention Services physician is supplied through a contracted pharmacy.

How to Request Spokane County Jail Records
Detailed jail records are different from the public roster. Spokane County states that specific inmate records are held in confidence.
