Wichita County Jail Roster: Inmate Search & Bookings

Search Wichita County Jail Records, Then Verify the Court, Bond and Next Step

The official Wichita County Sheriff’s Office roster page sends users to the county’s Odyssey Public Access system for jail booking records. Use that county source first, then move to the separate judicial-record system when your question is about a case, hearing, disposition or court-controlled bond.

Important: an arrest, booking record, charge or booking photo is not a conviction. Jail records describe custody and booking activity; court records control hearings, filings and case outcomes.

Use the Right Official Source for the Question

Wichita County does not use one public system for every criminal-justice question. Choosing the correct source prevents a common mistake: treating a jail search as a complete criminal court search.

How to Search Wichita County Jail Booking Records

Confirm the jurisdiction.Make sure the arrest or custody question belongs to Wichita County, Texas. “Wichita” alone can lead to Kansas results.
Open the Sheriff-linked jail portal.Use the WCSO Inmate Roster page or go directly to Wichita County Odyssey Public Access.
Choose Jail Records for booking information. The portal also provides a separate Jail Bond Records route. Use the section that matches your question instead of assuming one screen answers both.
Compare more than the name. When the portal displays matching details, compare the booking event, charge information, identifiers and other available facts before deciding you have the right person.
Route the result to the correct next source. For case status or disposition, use judicial records. For visitation, mail, money or property, use the current WCSO detention instructions.
Portal limitation: the county jail-record application can depend on browser cookies or JavaScript. If the public portal will not load, return through the Sheriff’s Inmate Roster page or call 940-766-8170. Do not rely on a search-engine snippet as proof of current custody.

How to Read a Wichita County Booking Result

The public jail system is a booking-record source, not a final court judgment. Exact fields can vary by record, so use the labels shown on the live portal and keep these distinctions in mind.

Booking information: what it can and cannot tell you
Record detailWhat it helps confirmDo not assume
Booking / jail identifierA particular jail event or person record. It is the same as a court cause or case number.
Booking dateWhen the jail processed the booking record. It is the date of conviction or final disposition.
Arresting agencyWhich agency is connected with the arrest or booking. That agency remains the current custodian or owns the court file.
ChargeThe allegation or custody reason associated with the booking record. The charge was proven, remained unchanged or resulted in conviction.
Bond informationA bail/bond entry associated with the jail record. The amount or release condition is still current.
Release informationA recorded county-jail release event when provided. The court case ended or all holds were cleared.

Four distinctions matter most: arrest is not conviction; a booking charge is not the final disposition; a warrant does not prove present jail custody; and an online release entry should not replace direct confirmation when pickup timing matters.

Bond, Bail and Release: Verify Before Paying

Wichita County’s jail portal includes a separate Jail Bond Records route, and the county maintains a Bail Bond Board with current applications, agendas and local rules. Bond information can change after magistrate or court action, so verify the current amount, charge sequence, holds and accepted payment route before money changes hands.

Before paying a bond

  • Confirm the person is still in Wichita County custody.
  • Confirm the current bond for each charge or case.
  • Ask whether another hold or detainer blocks release.
  • Verify whether the payment goes through the Sheriff, court or a licensed surety.
  • Get an official receipt and keep the booking/case identifiers.

Do not assume

  • A displayed bond means immediate release is available.
  • Paying one charge clears every hold.
  • A third-party caller or website is authorized to collect payment.
  • A booking page can predict the time the person will walk out of the facility.

For county rules and licensed-bond information, use the Wichita County Bail Bond Board. The current county page links local rules updated January 29, 2025. If a procedural detail is critical, confirm it with the jail or the responsible court before paying.

Release timing is not guaranteed

No fixed WCSO public release-processing time was found in the current detention pages reviewed for this article. Court orders, bond processing, identity checks, paperwork, transport and holds can affect when a release is actually completed. Confirm before arranging transportation or waiting at the facility.

Wichita County Court Router: Jail Record vs Case Record

The county’s Odyssey judicial portal is separate from its jail-record portal. Use the Wichita County Odyssey Portal for Smart Search, hearing search and supported court payments.

The District Clerk states that it maintains criminal felony records along with other district-court filings. The County Clerk separately lists misdemeanor court records. Wichita Falls Municipal Court describes its jurisdiction as fine-only criminal cases arising inside city limits, including traffic, Class C misdemeanors and city-ordinance violations.

Warrants are not the same as jail custody

A warrant can exist while a person is not in the county jail. For a Wichita Falls municipal warrant, use the Municipal Court warrant guidance or call the court. For another type of warrant, identify the issuing court or responsible agency before assuming the county jail roster will show it.

Current Wichita County Detention Center Visitation Rules

The current WCSO visitation page publishes a weekday schedule for in-person visits and a separate no-cost on-site video-booth option. Check the live page before traveling because jail operations can change.

Published in-person visitation schedule
DayGroupPublished visit window
MondayAll females1–5 p.m. and 6–8 p.m.
TuesdayMales A–G1–5 p.m. and 6–8 p.m.
WednesdayMales H–O1–5 p.m. and 6–8 p.m.
ThursdayMales P–Z1–5 p.m. and 6–8 p.m.
FridaySHU / Medical1–5 p.m. and 6–8 p.m.

Day sign-up is published as 12:15–12:45 p.m.; night sign-up is 5:15–5:45 p.m. WCSO says visitors who miss those sign-up windows are not authorized for that session.

In-person visit essentials

  • Visitor must be on the inmate’s approved visitor list.
  • Visitors age 17 or older are allowed a 20-minute visit, twice in a one-week period.
  • The published limit is two visitors per inmate per week.
  • A current state- or military-issued picture ID is required.
  • Children 16 or younger must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
  • People previously incarcerated in Wichita County Jail must wait 90 days after release before visiting.

What not to bring

WCSO says only an ID card and car keys may be brought into the Law Enforcement Center for visitation. Cell phones and other electronic devices are prohibited in visitation and lobby waiting areas; food, drinks and smoking are also prohibited.

No-cost on-site video booths

WCSO also provides on-site video visit booths at the Law Enforcement Center. The Sheriff says these booths are free to the public, are available Monday through Friday excluding holidays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and can be scheduled through GettingOut or at the booth. WCSO says this option does not require the visitor to be on the inmate’s approved visitor list.

Check current WCSO visitation rules before going.

Mail, Money, Calls and Property: Use the Current WCSO Instructions

Personal inmate mail

WCSO currently directs personal mail to a Phoenix, Maryland processing address—not to the Wichita Falls street address:

Wichita County Law Enforcement Center
Inmate’s Name and SO Number
PO Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131

The Sheriff’s FAQ also says books must be sent through a publisher. Because mail screening rules can change, confirm the live FAQ before sending photos, enclosures or other items not specifically addressed by WCSO.

Depositing money

WCSO lists three routes: money orders or cashier’s checks mailed to the inmate; credit-card kiosks on the second floor of the Wichita County Courthouse and in the Law Enforcement Center lobby; and online deposits through Access Corrections. Jail staff do not accept money or money instruments during visitation.

After release, WCSO says remaining commissary funds are normally provided by debit card. If a released person was not given a card and still has a balance, the FAQ says funds are released Monday–Friday, 10 a.m.–3 p.m., excluding holidays, at the Law Enforcement Center to the person named on the Released Inmate Money Instruction Sheet with government-issued ID.

Phone calls

The current Sheriff FAQ identifies Global Tel*Link (GTL) as the inmate phone provider and gives 877-650-4249 for AdvancePay account help. If a number will not accept jail calls, use the provider support route rather than assuming the inmate is unable to call.

Property release

WCSO says inmate property can be released only after the inmate completes a property-release form. Property belonging to people released to other facilities is held by the Sheriff’s Office for 15 days and then destroyed, so transfer-related property questions should be handled promptly.

Provider check: third-party jail directories often publish old vendors, old mail addresses or generic package instructions. For Wichita County, use the current WCSO FAQ and visitation page before sending funds, mail or packages.

Sheriff Records, Police Reports and Booking Photos

The WCSO Records/ID Division says it is the primary repository for records maintained by the Sheriff’s Office. If the record belongs to a city police department, request it from the agency that created it rather than from the county jail.

Wichita County’s open-records form specifically distinguishes judicial records from Public Information Act requests: felony/district-court records belong with the District Clerk, misdemeanor/County Court at Law records with the County Clerk, and police-department reports with the specific police department that generated the report.

What about mugshots or booking photos?

Do not assume that every jail result will display a booking photo or that an image copied by a third-party site is current. The official WCSO pages reviewed for this update do not publish a separate “free mugshot lookup” promise. If you need a Sheriff-held booking image or related record, start with WCSO Records/ID and ask what is releasable for the specific record.

A booking photograph, when lawfully available, documents a booking event. It does not establish guilt, conviction or the present status of a criminal case.

About the Wichita County Detention Center

The Wichita County Sheriff’s Office Detention Bureau describes the current facility at 2815 Central Freeway East as a 188,000-square-foot building with a kitchen, infirmary, book-in area, visitor center and detention operations. WCSO says the building was completed in early 2021 and passed its jail inspection in late August 2021.

The Sheriff’s current page says the building can house up to 700 inmates. A Texas Commission on Jail Standards annual report separately recorded the new Wichita County Law Enforcement Center as a 718-bed project when it opened in 2021. These figures come from different official descriptions, so this guide does not use either number as a live population count.

Health, Medication and Safety Questions

The WCSO Detention Bureau confirms that the current detention facility includes an infirmary, but the public Sheriff pages reviewed for this update did not publish a detailed family medication-delivery procedure, a public mental-health intake protocol or a dedicated PREA reporting channel.

Do not send medication or medical items through inmate mail unless WCSO specifically authorizes it. For a health, medication or safety concern involving someone in custody, call the Law Enforcement Center at 940-766-8170 and ask for the correct current detention contact. This article does not invent treatment, medication-acceptance or confidential medical-information rules that WCSO has not published.

Use Wichita County Jail Information Responsibly

  • An arrest is not a conviction.
  • A booking charge can be amended, dismissed or resolved differently in court.
  • A warrant does not prove the person is currently incarcerated.
  • Online custody and bond information can change after court action, release or transfer.
  • Do not treat an old screenshot, copied mugshot or search snippet as current custody proof.
  • Use official court records for legal outcome and filing information.
  • Do not use public jail information to harass, threaten, stalk or impersonate another person.

Wichita County Jail Roster FAQs

What is the official Wichita County Jail roster?

The Wichita County Sheriff’s Office Inmate Roster page directs users to Wichita County Odyssey Public Access for jail booking records. Use the Sheriff-linked portal rather than a copied roster or mugshot directory.

Is this Wichita County, Texas or Wichita, Kansas?

This page covers Wichita County, Texas and the Wichita County Detention Center in Wichita Falls. Wichita, Kansas is in Sedgwick County and uses a different custody system.

How do I look up a recent Wichita County booking?

Open the official Jail Records Inquiry and use the live search options presented by the county portal. Because the portal interface can change, follow its current field labels rather than instructions copied from an older third-party page.

Why can’t I find someone who was just arrested?

A very recent arrest may not yet appear as a completed public booking record, or the person may be under a different legal spelling, already released or held elsewhere. WCSO does not publish a guaranteed roster-update interval, so recheck the portal or call 940-766-8170 when current custody is urgent.

Does a Wichita County booking record prove guilt?

No. A jail booking, charge, arrest record or mugshot does not prove conviction. Use the correct court record for filings, hearings and disposition.

How do I verify Wichita County bond information?

Use the Jail Bond Records route in Wichita County Public Access, then confirm the current amount, holds and accepted payment procedure before paying. The county also maintains a Bail Bond Board and current local rules.

What are Wichita County Jail visitation hours?

WCSO currently publishes in-person visitation Monday through Friday by gender/name group, with visit windows from 1–5 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. Separate sign-up windows apply. The Sheriff also offers free on-site video booths Monday–Friday excluding holidays, 8 a.m.–7 p.m. Check the live visitation page before traveling.

Where do I send personal mail to a Wichita County inmate?

The current WCSO FAQ directs personal mail to Wichita County Law Enforcement Center, inmate name and SO number, PO Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131. Do not use an older Wichita Falls PO box found on third-party jail pages without confirming it first.

How can I put money on a Wichita County inmate account?

WCSO says deposits may be made through Access Corrections, credit-card kiosks at the Law Enforcement Center lobby and second floor of the county courthouse, or by mailing a money order/cashier’s check to the inmate as allowed by current policy.

Where should I search after a transfer to Texas state or federal custody?

Use the TDCJ offender search for Texas state custody and the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator for federal custody. Do not assume a missing Wichita County result means the person has no custody record.
