Search Pierce County Custody Through LINX Before You Pay, Visit or Share
For a current Pierce County jail roster search, start with the county’s LINX system. It can display the current Corrections roster or search current inmates by name, then connect booking charges with related court information.
Pierce County operates two jail buildings in downtown Tacoma. The roster is a custody tool—not a conviction record, not a complete warrant search, and not a reliable source for public mugshots.
Official Pierce County Source Router
The biggest lookup mistake is asking one database to answer every question. LINX handles current Pierce County jail custody and connected court information, while visits, inmate money, police reports, confidential jail records and state custody use different systems.
Current jail custody
Use: Pierce County LINX.
Display the current roster or search current inmates by name.
Court case or hearing
Use: LINX for Pierce County Superior Court information. For Pierce County District Court, use the court’s Find Case Information page or Washington Courts; municipal matters may require Washington Courts or the specific city court.
Superior Court / LINX information · District Court case information
Jail record or booking photo
Use: Pierce County Sheriff Public Disclosure guidance.
Most detailed inmate records, including booking photos, are confidential or exempt from ordinary public disclosure.
| Question | Best official route | What it can answer |
|---|---|---|
| Is the person currently in Pierce County Jail? | Current LINX roster | Current Pierce County Corrections custody listing. |
| What case or court date is connected? | LINX / District Court / Washington Courts | Superior Court through LINX; District Court and municipal case/date searches through their appropriate court routes. |
| Is there a warrant? | Correct court or issuing agency | A warrant and current jail custody are different statuses; verify through the court/agency tied to the case. |
| Need an incident/CAD report or 911 audio? | South Sound 911 records portal | Police/Sheriff incident reports, CAD logs and 911 audio for supported agencies. |
| Need detailed jail or healthcare records? | Sheriff Public Disclosure | Authorization requirements, exemptions, fees and submission routes. |

How to Search the Pierce County Jail Roster
Open the official LINX search
Use the Pierce County Legal Information Network Exchange instead of a copied inmate list or third-party mugshot page.
Display the full roster or search by name
LINX lets you display the current Pierce County Corrections roster or search current jail inmates by name. The name-search form uses last name, first name format.
Compare more than the name
Check booking date, charges, charging agency, court jurisdiction, court date, bail/sentence fields and release information. A name-only match is not enough when people have similar names.
Save the booking ID privately
The booking ID is useful for jail mail and other inmate-support tasks. Keep it private instead of posting it on social media or entering it into unrelated lookup sites.
Follow the court jurisdiction
A booking record can point toward Superior Court, District Court or a municipal court. Use the court record—not the jail entry—for filings, judgments, continuances and final outcomes.
Refresh before acting
Custody, bail, court dates, housing and release status can change. Search again immediately before paying, travelling, mailing time-sensitive material or arranging pickup.
What the Pierce County Roster Can Publicly Show
Pierce County’s Sheriff records page identifies these fields as information that may be released through the public jail roster. Each field answers a narrow custody question; it should not be stretched into a conclusion about guilt or final case outcome.
| Roster field | Useful for | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Inmate name | Matching the listed person. | Name alone proves identity. |
| Booking date | Identifying the listed jail admission. | It is the exact arrest time. |
| Charge | Understanding the allegation tied to custody. | The charge is a conviction or final filed count. |
| Warrant type | Seeing whether a warrant is associated with the booking. | It is the only hold or proves current custody by itself. |
| Charging agency | Identifying the agency connected with the charge. | That agency operates the jail or controls the court. |
| Court jurisdiction | Choosing the correct court system. | Every charge in the booking belongs to the same court. |
| Court date | Finding a scheduled proceeding. | The date cannot be continued or changed. |
| Sentence date / bail | Understanding the current record stage or displayed financial release information. | Paying guarantees immediate release. |
| Sentence / fine | Viewing limited sentence or financial information. | It replaces the court judgment. |
| Release date | Understanding release-related information when shown. | A past release means there was no later booking. |
Why Someone May Not Appear in the Current Pierce County Roster
Do not jump from “no LINX result” to “the person was never arrested.” Pierce County’s own Sheriff FAQ says several categories are not included in the standard list of people currently housed in the jail.
Home detention
People on home detention are not included in the current housed-in-jail roster.
Western State Hospital
A person at Western State Hospital will not appear as currently housed in Pierce County Jail.
Breaking the Cycle
Participants in the county’s Breaking the Cycle program are also excluded from the standard jail roster.
Can You Get Pierce County Jail Mugshots From the Roster?
Usually not through the public jail-record route. Pierce County states that most inmate jail records, including booking photos, are not public records and are exempt from ordinary disclosure. The public roster instead releases defined custody fields such as name, booking date, charge, agency, court jurisdiction, court date, bail/sentence information and release date.
Other confidential inmate records may generally be released directly to the inmate, to a third party with a signed authorization from the inmate, or under a court order. That rule is much narrower than third-party sites that advertise “free Pierce County mugshots.”
Read Pierce County’s current jail-record disclosure instructions.
Which Pierce County Court Should You Check?
The jail’s name does not decide which court handles the case. LINX is Pierce County Superior Court’s case-management system and also displays the current jail roster. Pierce County District Court directs users to its own case-information tools and Washington Courts; city-level misdemeanor matters may be handled by a municipal court.
| Route | Common role | Where to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Pierce County Superior Court | Felony matters and other Superior Court jurisdiction. | LINX; Clerk of Superior Court records: 253-798-7455. |
| Pierce County District Court | Misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors and criminal-traffic matters within District Court jurisdiction. | District Court, Room 239, 930 Tacoma Ave S; 253-798-7487. |
| Municipal court | City ordinance or municipal criminal matters. | Use Washington Courts case search or the specific city court. |
Felony arraignment timing after a recent arrest
Pierce County’s current Superior Court criminal FAQ says a person arrested the previous night for a felony may be scheduled for arraignment at either 11:00 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. The county instructs users to check LINX calendars after 10:30 a.m. to see which session applies. Court calendars can still change, so treat the live docket as controlling.
A court case can continue after release
When LINX no longer shows a person as a current inmate, do not stop at the jail roster if you are trying to understand the legal case. Search the handling court for charges, hearing dates, continuances, attorneys, judgments and final dispositions.
Verify Bail, Holds and Release Before Paying
Pierce County’s official bail guidance distinguishes a cash bond—payment of the full bail amount—from a commercial bail bond, where a percentage is paid to a bonding company and that fee is not refunded. A bonding company may also require collateral.
Before posting money
- Confirm the person is still in custody.
- Confirm which court set the bail.
- Check every active charge or case.
- Ask whether another hold or detainer affects release.
- Verify the accepted payment route with the jail or court.
- Keep the receipt and confirm discharge before arranging pickup.
Cash-bail refund routing
Pierce County explains that the refund route can change depending on whether charges were filed and whether a cause number exists. Once a charged case has a cause number, bail funds can move into the Clerk’s Office process.
Pierce County Main Jail and New Jail
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Corrections Bureau operates two jail facilities in downtown Tacoma. Confirm the person’s current housing or the purpose of your trip before travelling.
Pierce County Video Visitation: What to Check Before Scheduling
While ordinary in-person visitation remains unavailable on the county’s current notice, Pierce County provides video visitation through Securus. Registration requires a photo ID and an email address or telephone number.
Frequency
Video visits are limited to three per week.
Published window
The county lists video visitation hours as 8:00 a.m.–9:30 p.m., seven days a week and holidays, subject to housing and operational restrictions.
Cancellation credit
Postponements or cancellations generally need to be made 48 hours in advance to receive credit toward a future visit.
The person who schedules the video visit is charged. Pierce County warns that choosing the wrong housing time can still create a charge, so the inmate should communicate the correct availability before the visitor confirms the session.
New Jail odd/even housing rotation
For inmates housed at 701 Nollmeyer Lane, Pierce County publishes an odd/even-day rotation: bunks 1–42 are the lower tier and bunks 43–84 are the upper tier.
| Day of month | Lower tier | Upper tier |
|---|---|---|
| Odd-numbered day | 8:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. | 3:30–9:30 p.m. |
| Even-numbered day | 3:30–9:30 p.m. | 8:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. |
Main Jail tiers also rotate morning/afternoon access by odd and even dates. Because housing and operational needs can change, confirm the inmate’s current facility and available time before purchasing a session.
Send Mail and Money Without Using the Wrong Identifier
Inmate mail address
- Include the sender’s return address.
- Include the booking ID to help accurate delivery.
- Do not send an irreplaceable original.
- Legal mail is handled differently when clearly identified as attorney/court correspondence related to the case.
TouchPay and commissary
Pierce County lists online TouchPay deposits and telephone deposits at 1-866-232-1899.
Facility locator: 298402.
Weekly cutoff: money must be received by Sunday at 9:00 p.m. for the weekly commissary cycle.
Ordinary mail is scanned, not preserved
Pierce County says original incoming mail contents are scanned and the scanned copies are forwarded to the inmate. The originals are then shredded. Send photocopies when an original document would be difficult or impossible to replace.
Current book rule
The county’s current mail page says an inmate may receive up to three books per month. New paperback books or permitted magazines must be shipped directly from a publisher, distributor, bookstore or internet bookseller. Hardback, used, spiral-bound and other excluded formats are not accepted under the current rule.
Level 1 and Level 2 inmates face additional publication restrictions unless the material directly pertains to their cases.
Check jail mail rules and current acceptable/rejected items before mailing.

Sheriff public-record timing and fees
Pierce County says the Sheriff’s Office will, within five business days after receiving a request, make the record available, acknowledge the request and provide an estimate, ask for clarification, or deny the request while citing the applicable exemption.
- Printed copies: $0.15 per page.
- Electronic copies: $0.10 per GB.
- Paper converted to electronic format: $0.10 per page.
- In-person visual inspection can be arranged without a viewing fee; copies are charged.

The county also says an assembled request may be closed as abandoned if it is not claimed, paid for or reviewed within 30 days of notification.

Use Pierce County Booking Information Responsibly
- An arrest, booking, charge or warrant is not proof of guilt.
- Booking data can change after filing decisions, court orders, transfer or release.
- A court record—not a jail roster—controls the legal case outcome.
- A warrant result does not prove that the person is currently incarcerated.
- Do not treat a saved screenshot as current custody proof.
- Do not publish booking IDs, dates of birth, medical information, victim information or other sensitive details unnecessarily.
- Do not use public jail information to harass, threaten, stalk or shame anyone.
- For legal reliance, obtain the appropriate official or certified court record or consult a licensed attorney.
